(By the way, I love your studio light, one of the best I so far seen on CZcams! Thank you even more to show your truly fine and great images you have created by handling skillfully your favorite Tilt & Shift lens, the TS-E 90mm ƒ/2.8! I also have two of these both the 90mm and the 24mm version II (my TSE 17mm is sadly now in two separate pieces after a fall on the slippery sea ice one winter))
Awesome shots! thank you for proving that the 90mm is incredible. I get SOOO tire of hearing people that lack experience or creativity... or BOTH, say how only wide TS lenses are useful.

We did a lot of this creative shots with the Sinars and Linhofs in the 80 ,90 , this is called technically the Anti Scheimflug rule. " Selctive foucus" nice work
Thanks! I did most of this in the 90’s also. Did a lot with my Fuji GX680, which work great as well.
Great video, Todd. I only have a Samyang 24mm f3.5 tilt/shift on my a7rii and have only used the shift for panoramas and buildings so far. Your shots using the tilt to give unusual focus areas have inspired me to take a fresh look at composition using it. I'd like to be able to take more shots that puzzle people, especially photographers.🤨

Only question I have is why, as a working photographer, haven't you updated to the new 90?
The one feature I'd like on my 45 (favorite lens) is the ability to rotate tilt and shift to the same plane.
It still works great and is super sharp. I don't use it that often, so I don't feel the need to upgrade at this point.

Interesting video. I have an original version of the Canon 24mm 3/5L tilt shift lens and have been thinking about buying a 45mm, but I can't seem to find an L version. I was wondering if your 45mm TSE is an L version? Looking forward to your reply...
Hi, my 45mm TSE is not an L version. When I bought it I don't think there was an L version.
I had the 45 mm one years ago and often am sad that I sold it. It was really fun to use and great for exploring how you can manipulate the look of an image. Really cool shots that you took, nice video!

Thanks, I use Canon lenses with my Canon R5 and Canon 5d MK IV.
Has Photoshop not negated the need for these lenses?
Yes, it has I guess. I like to do as much as I can in camera. I am a little old school.
Have you had a chance to use the newer canon L tilt shifts? I understand the older ones are manual focus but much cheaper. I'm just debating on if I should invest in the newer L TS-E or get the cheaper/older version.
Hey Chad, I have the newer 17mm & 24mm and the older 90mm & 45mm. All of them are super sharp and all are manual focus. If you are just getting into tilt-focus lenses and are on a budget I would go with the old ones. I don't know if there is an older version of the 17mm. I do love my older 90mm TS. Hope that helps with your decision.
@@ToddEckelman90 I ended up getting the 24mm and the 45mm as I want to shoot architecture with them. Thanks for the input. May I as what that tripod you have your Fuji GX680 on? That thing looks amazingly stable.
@@chadwickerman It's an older big GITZO tripod with a Ball head. It is heavy, I don't know if they make it anymore.
Cool video. Can I just ask, do you have the non L 90mm, the "green text one" and if so have you tried the L version ?
Thanks. I have the non-L 90mm and have not tried the L version. My non-L 90mm is so sharp that I have never thought to switch to the L version. The 45mm I have is non-L and I don't think they made the L version of this lens. My 24mm and 17mm are L versions.

technically you have 6, you forgot the LF camera (with movements), as well as the Fuji GF680 which has a tilt/shift front standard.
I had to stop after a couple of minutes because at 2:19 you keep using the term 'shift' but you're talking about tilt or swing; you even demonstrated swing with the lens but called it 'shift focus'. (Shifting is where the focal plain stays parallel with the sensor.) You should probably clarify the terminology before you start filming.
