    video looks like recorded in the home office during lockdown ;-). Who cares. Thank you so much for taking the time! The best explanation of Copulas I have seen so far!

    Thanks man. Part of my thesis is about the role of copulas in hydrology. You answered many of my questions on this subject and clarified many things to me. Nice job

    @paulsweeting These videos are really superb! Many thanks for providing them. I was getting overwhelmed with the concept of copulas and these videos were very timely in helping overcoming it.

    That was really well explained. Can you please do some more videos on Copulas along with some real world examples. There are no good videos on this on the internet.

      @@PaulSweeting Thank you soooo much....Please if possible give us one concrete example on dummy data starting from probability density function all the way till the calculation of a copula....Every where they just keep on talking about the heavy mathematical definitions without a walk through example....Thank you very much once again.

    Nice explanation, Paul. I especially liked the referance to CDO's at the end of the video. It is a great example of financial modelling done wrong based on wrong mathematical assumptions, which can be very costly. And in reverse, it proves the importance of copulas. Thank you!

    Very very good explanation!!! Best so far in youtube! Could you please explain what a marignsl distribution is? Is it just the CDF of X respectively Y?

    • @PaulSweeting
      @PaulSweeting  Před rokem

      Thank you! The marginal distribution is just the cdf of one of the variables. So x will have a marginal distribution, as will y (and z, of there are 3 variables, etc)

  • @drachenschlachter6946

    One last question: you showd a joint distribution. Why did you create copula if you already habe a joint distribution?😊

    • @PaulSweeting
      @PaulSweeting  Před rokem

      A joint distribution is made up of 2 or more marginals and the copula that joins them. But if you want to use different marginal distributions (because those in the joint distribution aren't a good fit), or if the copula implicit in the joint distribution isn't a good fit, you need to use a separate copula and marginals.

    • @drachenschlachter6946
      @drachenschlachter6946 Před rokem

      @@PaulSweeting so to understand it right:
      1. Joint distribution = 2 or more marginal distribution and a copula that joint them?
      2. You Showd a joint distribution in you Presentation. Die you create this one with a copula?
      3. For example I have two marginals with diffrent distributions. Can I User a copula to join them on a scale of [0;1]?
