I remember going through Needles in the Summer of 1960 with my parents brother and sister about 5pm it was 122 degrees. I was 10 years old in a 1955 Ford, no air condition of course. I traveled the old Route 66 many times before I-40 was built.
My bf lives in needles and I'm headed there in about a month to visit him. It'll be my first time there and he keeps warning me about the heat. Im from upstate NY so to me 90 degrees is hot😂
Watched several movies in that theater. Thanks again. for stopping. I was 18 years old then. Now 77.
Boy do I love those small local museums. You could do a whole video series just on the museums in all the small towns on Hwy 395 and those in small town Nevada.

Got my kick on route 66 thanks to Russ! Caught a train in Needles to LA, 5 years back to reminisce! Can't say I would do that again, stay safe ALL
My brother was stationed in Barstow in the 60’S . USMC. My dad had a hang down A/C installed in a 63 Chevy . We drove that HWY the hold time my mom was complaining she was to cold . You could look out and see the heat wave above the sand . Great Video

That was 5 Mile Road. Those big buildings by the field office are for the Mary-Jane industry.
I've been around here since '86 and never stepped foot into the museums in LHC, Kingman, Needles, etc. After seeing your videos, they're on the list.

I live a block 66 Highway I live right off of the Cajon Boulevard and San Bernardino little Community called Muscoy

Know this place well. My grandmother lived here, my mom and sister was born there. Me I was born down the 95 in B Town. We used to drive the 95 to visit family. Memories.

I've taken 95 going south and north at least 15 times and never knew that route 66 historical pull off was there on my way North this spring I'll have to pull in and check it out

Leaving El Cajon, California 1963 heading to El Paso. Mom and I. Route 66 almost through Needles. Two cars coming at us drag racing. Ran us off the road. We were ok but really shook up. The car was actually swaying back and forth from their passing. No air in the car, and the cheese in the console melted. Probably a 140 degrees at noon. Always wondered about my mom. Lol we spent the night in Needles.

Back in the seventies I worked in needles for 3 years at the Ford dealership Owen motors it was an old military counset hut used to drive over the old buro bridge saw the scene from the movie convoy where the truck went off the bridge

We went back and forth from LA to Chicago many, many times back in the day. I was a kid. It was an adventure. I loved it. There was nothing around but beauty and it would be so exciting when you would get to a town.

Parker, AZ was a port of call on the Colorado. The US Army set up a tent camp in Parker which burned down, ignited by cinders from a steamboat.

Noticed your comment about fuel prices influencing your travels to California. I think that this summer season might really be seriously effected by fuel prices. I'm already reconsidering my travels as fuel prices change the balance of fun vs. cash outlay. Its a sad state of affairs around the world and how its also impacting U.S. citizens. First we had Covid taking the fun out of travel and now we're saddled with out of site fuel costs.
I admire your tenacity to keep going and bringing entertainment and information to everyone. I hope to be a traveler in the next month but how far I go might get substantially changed.

I stayed in Needles at a trailer park with my parents, grandparents and brother in 1961, Easter Vacation, as it was called then. Rockhounding trip led by my grandparents.
I wonder how the paddle wheeler boats were transported out to the Colorado River? When I lived in the Pittsburgh area, all I heard was how hot it was in Needles, CA. Just to note, diesel here in Virginia is $3.99/gal.
The paddle boats came up through the gulf of California. Before all the dams on the river the boats could go clear up to Overton Nevada.

Thanks for stopping by Needles, In 64 I spent a few months in and around Needles and Kingman Az. In the army playing war games. In fact I spent about 18 hours in the Needles jail while there. Out between Needles and the air port was where we stayed. In tents. Yes it gets hot there.

Again Russ of RVerTV IF and WHEN the price of fuel goes down now about a trip of Kingman to the Grand Canyon Skywalk by way of Stockton Hill Road? I don't the exact route but, I've heard it's only61 miles.
Just moved here 3 years ago from the midwest and, still learning the territory out here.
Your videos are quite helpful in knowing where rest stops are along the way for water as well as Gasoline.

for years i've taken the 'back way' to Laughlin and Vegas from San Diego on the 95. Never knew about the museum either. lately though, since the trucker
traffic is getting more crowded, it's harder to pass them because there are so many, i go through Yuma and take the 95 thru Havasu etc.

small border town of needles has ten marijuana dispensaries..so if you can't find what you are looking for in vegas, go there.

There's a lot less traffic on US 95 than there is on Interstate 95.
If you have sam's club in Bullhead city, gas is $2.99 right now.
Wait wait wait Havasu Landing goes through now back when I had a trailer there 35 years ago you came in from Black Meadows and it dead into the mountains are you telling me Havasu Landing where you get the trips for two bucks to go across is a through-and-through other words you can come in from Black Meadows and come out to where you're at now
