How can anybody NOT love Dar ?? She is truly a National Treasure. If I ever find myself removed from my feelings, I can make it 1/2 through a song before emotion is back in my life.
"And when I chose to live...there was no joy, it's just a line I crossed...I wasn't worth the pain my death would cost...so I was not lost or found." That is me, right there. Decades now of intense chronic illness and chronic pain, trauma and soul-crushing loneliness. Every time I hear this song I cry. Every time, for years now. I wish life would choose me after all.
So true, She said once that it was one of those songs she wrote just for herself, but in expressing her own struggle, she created something that we all can relate to.
Thank you for this beautiful song. It touched me deeply and thanks for Susan Cain who introduced me to it in her book Bittersweet and thanks to Suleika at the Isolation Journals who introduced me to Susan Cain. I feel I am emerging into a precious life that I haven't been as connected to in the past but that keeps expanding and we are all part of it.
This song moves me so much. It touches the heart of a main existential battle between impulses to connect and impulses to isolate/defend. This song, for me, is a reminder to constantly return to the world and let ourselves be broken open. Thank you, Dar.

I hope life chooses you. I'm sure it should.
Sometimes the truth is like a second chance.
Dar Williams writes such heartfelt ballads. Her creativity and artistry is a gift. This song is one for all of time.
