  • I'm currently in tenth place in The Climbing Station competition with two people just ONE POINT behind me. That gave me the incentive to deal with some climbs I was finding hard...

    For slabs I find following the ancient mantra of "ah fuck it!" helps a bit :)
    A slightly more helpful observation: working on your hip mobility and really engaging your glutes to plaster yourself to the wall might be something to look into.
    Good on you for working on something scary!

      What a superb mantra! Love it! And thanks for the tips... I actually have a hip-opening stretch I do every morning... and as for engaging my glutes... got it - I will try to be conscious of that! (reminds me of my yoga instructor I used to have who would say... "Now, squeeze the glutes. Your OWN glutes, that is."

    Hey man, every time I stumble across one of your videos you put a smile in my face. Your vibe is awesome. Keep it up, you are doing great! Finding courage to do risky moves its hard, but its very inspiring to see you practice those scary falls and gathering courage to try them. This time you couldn't do it but soon enough you'll get there for sure. Much love.

      Thanks for your lovely comments... it's been a funny time, and you've really boosted my mood! Yep... I'll keep at it... "What seems impossible today will, one day, be your warm-up..."

    Oh this is awesome. I'm pretty new to climbing, nothing too fancy so far and most climbing channels are just high skill things which don't really have any relation to me. Just talking through these boulders, the thought process, the voice over, it's perfect. Great stuff.

      Hi Jonathan... welcome to the channel and welcome to climbing! Glad you enjoyed the video... I have plenty of fails and other difficult boulders in my back catalogue if you fancy a binge! Stay awesome...

    well done! :) i always think conquering fear is the hardest part about climbing!

      Thanks! And I totally agree... my physical ability and technique FAR outclass my courage right now... it's the one bottleneck I need to work on most at this point...

      Not many for sure! Reminds me of a Climbing Stuff introduction to climbing where he says something like "people like different types of climbs... some like overhangs, some like vertical, some like slabs but they're wrong..." Haha!

      @@OldFatGuyClimbs to progress in climbing you must do different styles, and the most important are the ones you are the worst at, for me its slab and dynos.
      what can i say, i have broken feet

    • @OldFatGuyClimbs
      @OldFatGuyClimbs  Před 12 dny +1

      @@margolisClimb Absolutely! I pretty much _hate_ doing slabs, but I make myself get on there, take it easy, be gentle with myself and progress slowly. I can't imagine just avoiding them completely to 'feel better about myself', that's not growth!
