as a charter subscriber of the Criterion Channel, I usually get an e-mail with a coupon code a week before flash sales and I haven't received one, yet. And it usually happens on a Tuesday. According to previous dates I have written down, only 2 in the past 10 years were on a Wednesday, everything else a Tuesday. This is definitely the latest they've done the sale since I've been into Criterion. This one fluctuates between being in February or March so it always seems like a lot of waiting if it's not in February, but March 10th is the latest date I have written down. I keep track in a document, lol.
Yes all true! I love that you have a document on it. Cheers Bailee!
I got my coupon last week.
I think Criterion will time the sale to coincide with Inland Empire. They usually launch the sale on the same day as a big release and that's the next big one.
Great recommendations pal! I sincerely hope that a flash sale happens. It's strange that it hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed. Cheers, my friend!
Very interesting analysis.
Thank you!
Love your videos! Fingers crossed for the sale. I only have one (very treasured) Criterion blu-ray currently - Hedwig and the Angry Inch. One of my favourite films!
I only started buying Criterion films in recent years. For my first ever Criterion flash sale, I got the Godzilla Showa collection and Parasite. For this one, I don't think I'll go that big, but I'm kinda eyeing the Before Trilogy and maybe My Dinner With Andre.
"That's the question people are asking on the internet today."
Dude, I've been asking for two months! Lol
😂😂
Thanks Elliot!
My three must-gets are The Red Shoes, Raging Bull, and (one I'm surprised wasn't mentioned) Brian DePalmas Blow-Out. My body and bank account are READY for this sale. Well...maybe not my bank account. 😂
I have my list written down and ready lol, some titles include- “Arsenic and old Lace”, “five Easy pieces”, “tootsie”, “la dolce vita”, “Notorious”, etc.
isnt la dolce vita out of print?
The only Criterion 4k disc I own is The Piano. Very happy with purchase.
I’m taking a trip to London in May so I will be sitting this sale out (if there is one) because I’m saving my money for that.
Good idea. Have a great time when you go to London! Cheers
It’s amazing to me how many Criterion blu-rays have very controversial color grading: Midnight Cowboy, Election, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, the Three Colors Trilogy, Paris Texas, Sex Lies and Videotape, etc. In each case, I have another disc tucked into my Criterion case just to have an alternative. They’re a great label, but why does that keep happening?
In the next Criterion sale, I def want to get Night of the Living Dead 4k (because I have the Dawn of the Dead 4K from Second Sight and I want this to go with it), La Jetee (I got the Arrow 4K of 12 Monkeys so I want this to go with that), and possibly Insomnia (I've seen the Nolan remake so I want to check out the original version)
Original Insomnia is great. Worth grabbing to watch it once and all the features.. then you can sell at a slight loss or decide you love it enough to keep it, but yeah.. worth it.
If/when the flash sale happens, I've got my mind set on the Bergman set. I will also likely pick up The Before Trilogy. The only 4K I was possibly considering picking up was the In the Mood for Love 4K. But I notice you didn't recommend that one here. 🤔 (I've never seen it, by the way. Truth be told, these will all be blind-buys.)
In the Mood For Love is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Highly recommended.
@TheGannon22 Appreciate the affirmation. I was just back and forth on whether to pick up just that film in 4K or the World of Wong Kar Wai boxset. I'm unfamiliar with any of that director's work, but have heard nothing but acclaim.
@@mv28 Gannon22 is spot on - its an INCREDIBLE film. That Bergman box set is gorgeous as well, I'll add. Been such a treat to dive through his filmography.
Sale is ON NOW for 24 hours. Get in there! has been live for 10 minutes now, so 23:50 to run...
Criterion needs to do mandatory Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos tracks on its releases
I'm still debating on which of the Jacques box sets (Demy or Tati) to get this flash sale along with completing the Wes Anderson collection with Rushmore as well as getting Rebecca and Harakiri.
Demy would be my pick but also love Tati!
Please receive this the way that it’s intended…. I think I speak for everyone when I ask if you could please put the films that you mention in the description. My phone is full of photos of you holding blu ray cases 😂
Thanks
Thanks so much Stuart. I really appreciate it!
Stay tuned
What are the chances that the sale isn’t going to happen? This will be my first CC sale that I participate in. Any best guesses on when they’ll do it?
Do pre-orders also get the flash-sale's 50% off? And do they count as separate orders in terms of reaching the threshold requirement for free shipping?
As someone who is just getting into the Criterion Collection, I'm excited for my first Barnes & Nobles 50% off sale. So intend on getting essentials:
Wild Strawberries.
Seven Samurai.
8 1/2.
Ivan's Childhood.
A Boute De Souffle.
The Killing.
Le Samouraï.
Harakiri.
Raging Bull.
Citizen Kane.
You have a lot of good fun ahead of you! That’s a fantastic selection of films there. Cheers!
You have 8 1/2 I would suggest “La Strada” also directed by Felini
I'm gonna get Dead Man, Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai, Essential Jacques Demy, and Three Colors 4k.
Good stuff! I should be getting the Three Colours trilogy 4K in soon
Dead Man and Ghost Dog seem like films that'll get 4Kgrades soon enough. Just my two cents.
@@subaquaticencountersofthed8515 what makes you speculate they will?
@ColombianThunder Pure speculation of course. Yes. I just think Jarmusch is a popular figure and will warrant upgrades. Doesn't mean it isn't worth buying them, I'm just tired of buying stuff again and again since there is so much great content in existence, and I have less time than some.
@@subaquaticencountersofthed8515 I see. I think I'll still get them. My TV has 4K but unfortunately no HDR so 4Ks are kinda pointless for me atm unless they don't have HDR like In the Mood For Love, and I won't be upgrading my TV for a while. I'm only getting Three Colors in 4K for the new restoration. Thanks for the potential heads-up though.
Does Criterion ship to the U.K?
These 24/7 sales from CC is like Christmas for us collectors! Sadly, it’s like Christmas we pay for ourselves 🤣
The Last Waltz is a love letter to the Woodstock generation.
More like Marty’s love letter to Robbie Robertson
Do criterion ship 4ks to the UK?
Nope, U.S. & Canada only.
According to whoever replies to stuff sent to the Mulvaney email, they are still doing their 2 flash sales per year.
I wish we could get good criterion deals in the UK, the best we get is £5 off😢
I know! Blame Sony for that. They manage it all over here. Criterion have a very hands off approach with the UK market
there's actually a Criterion sale on now at HMV
It’s so annoying, I do wish criterion would release all the films region free though and not just the 4K, we’re missing out big time
@@84paratize I know I have bought a couple😀 but it’s only £6 which is ok but in the US it’s 50% off, I just wish it was the same everywhere.
@@84paratize if you can call it that
Red Shoes sounds a little like Whiplash in a way.
It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a direct inspiration. There’s also similarities with Black Swan !
Who cares? These idiots refuse to sell to paying customers in Australia and now Zavvi has stopped selling to Australia as well where you could pick up the odd Criterion. Disgraceful
I think a LOT of people care! But yes that is frustrating. You could try a shipping forwarding service?
@@ElliotCoen I'm sure there are, just very frustrated that they refuse to sell due to some archaic system. Especially the 4k which are generally region free. I guess they are too lazy to do anything about it.
"Red Shoes" is glorified and overwrought soap opera.
isn't every film?
@@AchtungEnglander Nope.
