Led Zep was always considered a psychedelic rock band back in my day. We didn't realize back then how much of their music was heavy blues-oriented. Jimmy Page wasn't just the brilliant guitar player, he was the main composer and producer, way ahead of his time! They'll always be one of the best in the rock community.
Journey couldn’t lick Zeppelin’s shoes. Not even close. And I like Journey. Zeppelin - the gods of rock!!!
You do have to admit though Robert plant and Steve Perry doing a duet together would be FUCKING LIT!!!
You gotta remember this was the early seventies and every person in the garden was high as fuck! You didn't have to smoke you just had to breathe! You'll see that NYC cop near the stage he was high too! Lol And there's a few shots you can see how high the band was too! This was a time when you went to see a show at the Garden it was an experience! From the train ride in to the party after! Great daze!

In case you haven't noticed, Led Zep is essentially a blues band (deeply influenced by American Blues). BTW, the drummer, John Bonham RIP, is considered one of the best (Neil Peart level).

This live version is one of the best in Rock history. You can’t really compare Journey and Zeppelin . Journey is more POP/ Rock and extremely good but Zep is a ROCK legend . Two different genres completely.

I love that moment when Robert does that last shriek and his voice breaks, but flips up another third by accident!! Robert Plant may not be technically as slick as Freddie Mercury or Steve Perry, but he was courageous and willing to push his voice into those inhuman places, very few male vocalists were willing to go there. I can't actually think of ANY back then, other than the great black soul vocalists like Otis Redding, James Brown, Richie Havens, etc.
But I do see why some are critical of Robert Plant, he is not consistently astounding, but he has those 'moments'..you know the ones, LOL.
So, Robert Plant has over 50 years of singing. It would be hard to compare him to anyone else. You would have to grow up on Rock n Roll, and listened the same amount before saying that! In my era, we spent our time going to bars, halls and concerts chasing the music. Collecting and swapping albums. There was so much music back then, you could go to a major concert every weekend plus the local stuff. I feel bad that the younger generations missed out on such a great time. Video is great, for us it just triggers all senses and puts us back there. You guys will never experience that. You have a much longer journey before picking a favorite! 😁
Hmmm, Zep vs Journey, like apples and oranges. Sometimes I want an apple, other times an orange. Two uber talented groups, two VERY different styles. I have to say Zep reaches me on a different level, maybe cuz of the blues vibe I find myself going back to them more often. Do we HAVE to choose?

Robert Plant's voice had worsened into the mid 1970s, but at the beginning, he was the greatest vocalist on the planet! He pioneered that gritty hard rock/heavy metal vocal technique.

Journey is good but zeppelin is the best ever.
Few will argue that Robert Plant had *the best* voice of this era, given guys like Freddie Mercury from Queen were in the game at the same time, BUT.. his voice fits the music sooooo perfectly, and their blues, folk, and classic rock influences that they took and turned up to another level will always put Led Zeppelin as my personal favorite well-known band from this era. All four guys were among the best at what they did, and they played so damned well together, and made so many masterpieces. Thanks for another LZ reaction!

Has to be the best rock band of all time. Until you hear the Who. I can never choose.
Both are great bands but Zeppelin has ZERO bad songs and The Who has A LOT of bad songs (IMO).

Page couldn't sing backup for Perry. Zeppelin is definitely superior as a band, but nobody can fuck with perry.

Sadly this show is right after Plant lost his voice permanently. He had vocal surgery few months prior and even ignored his doctors request to take a break from touring.
If you want to hear Plant in his prime and glory, watch anything from their Royal Albert Hall 1970 show.
He didn't "lose his voice permanently". What a stupid and ignorant statement to make up.
@@Cactusfruitsquisher woa woa woa lol what’s with the aggression? Plant battled throat problems his entire life. The smoking, drinking, lack of warm ups didn’t help. He also performed several times while having a cold (Earls Court ‘75 for example). You can clearly hear a change in his voice by the last leg of the ‘72 tour. He then had a surgery in ‘73 which permanently altered his voice. He got much of his voice back by ‘77 and ‘79 but it still wasn’t the same as his peak between ‘67-‘72.
Heroin certainly didn’t help Zep’s live shows either. Plant sounded great in ‘73 although it’s obvious that some of the vocals and guitar were fixed up in the studio. That’s why it to 4 years for this movie to be released. The same with the 2007 reunion. Most live albums are edited in the studio. Fact.
@@jimdavis8864 I agree. I don’t think Plant sounds bad here at MSG but it’s no where near his full capacity prime. And yea the heroin really took a toll on Page’s playing. From ‘75 onward it really started to show. Real shame because Bonham and JPJ continued to get better and better every year.
I don’t know why MSG gets all the attention when IMO the band is firing on all cylinders in their Royal Albert Hall 1970 performance.
Also I heard the movie was delayed because of botched footage. They fired the director because of huge gaps in the film. They then had to fill in the gaps with fantasy sequences and reshoot some of footage in a studio.

Robert Plant vs. Steve Perry? If their band's music was more similar I could see it more.... both are great for their bands style choice and overall-- it would be a tough comparison.
