  • Folding starts at 4:40 (before that: how to adjust the crease pattern to vary the model)
    Paper used in this video: 24 cm square of kami (9 1/2 in)
    Finished model (low density tiling): side length of 12 cm (4 3/4 in)
    This video describes how to fold different origami tessellations, all tiling of the Hydrangea designed by Shuzo Fujimoto. In particular, it explains how to fold a low, intermediate, and high density tiling, as well as further variations. I first learned about this technique from Peter Budai's tiling guide.
    Shuzo Fujimoto and Peter Budai kindly gave me permission to make this video accessible to you.
    Also check out Peter Budai's website www.budaiorigami.hu/en for more of his work, including many free diagrams.

    Loved this video, Sara. I think it helps immensely to have you talking us thru. And what a detailed explanation at the beginning! That was a real treasure-trove of information to better understand the workings of the different densities. Can't wait to go at all three of these. Now that you have put out this video, I don't feel so intimidated! Thank you so much. one happy folder---Brent

    @freyjameese9292 Před 5 lety

    I really love your videos and I love the the hydrangeas! I can never find the right paper for it though, when I use standard kami for this the white shows through the creases, making it look untidy, and it rips as the petals get smaller. I've tried paper with longer fibers but these tend to be too thick for getting good definition in the smaller petals. Do you have any advice?

    • @Happyfolding
      @Happyfolding  Před 5 lety

      Try using paper that is colored all the way through (i.e. no white reverse). My favorite paper for this model is probably the rainbow kraft from Pacon. They used to be available cut to squares, but seem to have been discontinued. I can only find rolls of paper now. However, any thin, crisp paper that is colored all the way through should work nicely for this model.

    I wonder what was the highest number of layers you ever folded in a single hydrangea?

      Sara, Can you make ASMR for Intermediate Density Hydrangea tiles please?

    • @Happyfolding
      @Happyfolding  Před 6 lety

      I wasn't planning to. There's an ASMR for a low and a high tiling already. The mid density would not differ much. Why are you interested in this one in particular?

  • @HontubeYT
    @HontubeYT Před 2 lety

    For a low density can I just crease 4 hydrangeas next to each other?

  • @eneri5116
    @eneri5116 Před 5 lety

    So for a 3x3 high density molecule tesselation I would need a 20x20 grid?? What sized grid would I need? Thanks for the tutorial btw :()

    • @Happyfolding
      @Happyfolding  Před 5 lety

      Yes. as to size, it really depends on how small you want to fold. The bigger the better, as you'll be able to add more layers on each tile. I suggest going no smaller than a side length of 20 cm / 7 7/8 in.

      @@Happyfolding I resorted to just cutting 1 square of off every side and finished it. It's finished but not really as good as I would like it. The paper is really thick so I can't do many layers. Here's a link to the photo if you want:

    • @Happyfolding

      That depends on how many tiles you want to fold, how many layers you want to add to each layer, the type of paper, and how comfortable you feel with folding. Here are a couple of pictures with sizes I used:
