My Aunt had one, a blue one, and on the way home from work the back rest on the seat broke and she couldn't replace it right away! 😂 I bet it sucked though...
I had the hatchback 2.3 with 4 speed manual. Surprisingly, it would smoke the tire if I power braked. I bought a 289 ho and put in it and everything matched up except the Transmission and Electronic Ignition system. Put a C4 Transmission and wired up the points distributor. Then wicked fast. Striped the gear in the rear end in less than a week.😂
Dated a gal with a white 1986 coupe, bordello red interior, and 4 cyl/stick. As long as the engine was tuned and that low hanging distributor didn't crack and let in puddle water, it lived as long as a Slant 6. The red lens of her center mounted stop light came off, so whenever she hit the brakes, the person behind got the naked bulb in the eye, which is brighter than you'd expect :) She was a great friend, but a lousy girlfriend, which taught me a lot--you never really know someone until you've dated them. But I really wish I had gotten my hands on her coupe :)
Hi there. I have the 82 4 cylinders 2.3 lts model. It s a nice car just for driving around the city streets in my town. However many people admire it. I m happy even though i d like to get 8 cylinders of course
I like it! Currently looking for something like this for "The2904" by the way, Did you know using the flywheel from a 1.9L escort (fwd) will give you a 4lb lighter flywheel (helps with acceleration, and engine braking) And the "roller" head from a ford ranger 2.5L will add around 15hp. Just a couple tips to help it out.
It needs a tune up...I think :P I have a '79 Mustang notchback with the 4 cylinder as well and a 4 speed, red interior too. I just got the temporary title and I hope it will pass the inspection next month so I can get the definitive title.
super you do not need inspection for title ask for title transfer make sure title is sign only by owner check id ofowner transfer all you need then inspection after you fix what car need
Lol I was like is that actually a 4 banger it sounds very aggressive but it could also be that I have my phone connected to speakers and I hear everything
I think it needed a carburetor cleaning a good cleaning and a good carburetor adjustment that's all maybe a little unleaded plus to clean the lines but that's all it needed
I didn't know 4 cylinder mustangs were ever a thing (I know the new Eco one has it) - I really didn't think it would be a thing in the US market. I thought the lightest they came was a v6. This one sounds ragged and like it was flooding at the start?
Check your throttle position sensor. I'm not an expert but that be why it's chappy. Or it's just your high performance cam. Love the vehicle! Burn rubber !!
@@harryfp1494 keep in mind, the tach has to match the engine, ie, no 4 cylinder tachometer on a 255V8 or an inline 6. And if you swap the dash, do yourself a giant favor and put a new heater core in. They go, and then its an $800 job to replace a $20 part. I did one myself one outside winter on my 86 GT, only getting an hour after work before the sun set. I think it took a month that way.
I had a 1988 foxbody lx convertable, it was ragged beyond ragged out. The v4 ran better than in the 81 shown here, but the clutch was garbage. And it had over heating issues. The convertable top had no liner, and inoy half of the motors to lift and set the damn thing worked. It was a v4 like this one but with a catalitic-converter so it didnt sound as bad ass... I loved the hell outta that car and miss it so baddly.
I have one, so I can respectfully say...the Fox body is a tin can but with a V8, its a truck engine with a hot cam. But that's what made them so fast, the power to weight ratio. Once the body starts to loosen up and the door hinge bushings go so you have to pick the door up in order to shut it, and the brake lights keep shorting out and the ignition goes so you have to start it three times at a stop sign and the third gear synchro went so it grinds...it feels like a beater. But the GM F body was no better, or even the GM G body. all three were cars designed at the end of the 1970's and run until the early 90's with little changed, so they were all long in the tooth.
Good God. 0 - 60 in 16 seconds. As teenagers our dad bought the family a “2nd car”. A 1984 Mustang L. I guess we should have been more grateful. It was at least “new”. But man did we dog that POS Mustang every chance we got.
My first car was a 1980 just like this. Redi interior and all. Good memories.
I had this car, drove like a champ, kept running when I shut it off.
MontcoKid89 it was a 1981 auto 4 banger. same colors.
turned like it was on rails
ItsTheCostanza i just bought a car just like this
Same here, went through a new seleniod every year with that car back in the 80s

My friend had one similar with the 2.3 and the red interior in HS. We beat the sh*t out of that car and it refused to die. Good Times.
Those early fox body's have a driving feeling that you can't re capture with today's mustangs

Nothing like driving a Ford Fox body. Have an 1985 Ford LTD with a 4 cylinder engine. Drive's really nice. Engine is really simple to work on.
0:37, the exhaust fumes are starting to build up, haha
The Mustang needs some love. I still miss my 79 Mustang Cobra TRX suspension and tires with a turbo 4.
sounds like a v6 with some pipes sounds good for a 4cyl
My first car. My 2.3 never sounded like this.
to me the engine sounds quite flattering :)

beautiful country!
I have a 1980 and a 1979. slowing trying to "restore" the 80 with slot of parts from the 79. both have the 4 cylinder 2.3L.
We got a 1980 that my dad got as a birthday present from his buddy who built if for drag racing and ran consistent 7 second quarter miles.

First Mustang diesel I´ve ever seen..
Mustang and Diesel, two words I never heard in the one sentence before.
Maurice Dent look up westin chaplin
Why does it sound like it has bad "piston return springs".
I dont know if you still use this channel but I'm pretty sure I bought the car in this video, how many miles did this one have on it?
It sounds like a actual lawnmower
A little tune-up and your good to go !!

Is it a 4 cylinder turbo or just a 4 cylinder
I think 40.000 of your views are mine... Would love to see the car from the outside, im doing a t5 swap on my 89
I got pictures of it from this time, im restoring it right now though so its a bit different now..

Stock exhaust?
this things a fucken time machine

What kind of automatic gearbox (C4 or C5) do the 1981 fox body of 3.3l engine, 6 cylinders in line and how many speeds bring?
I believe c3, but my 83 3.8 has a c5
My brother had a 1979 Fairmont Futura base 2.3 with 4 speed and that car was really really slow.
Are you sure the four piston are working? It seems to have an idle piston.
Aligment by the jewel!!!
i love it
Love this old girl

Lovely.❤️
I wonder if the rubber timing belt was ever replaced?
I own this car now and it was replaced last October, 182k miles

Guys i have an 2.3 turbo Cobra from 1980, beside an V8 swap (😁) what i can do to it
Alot . You can make 300 hp easy af for a little over 250 bucks
go to turboford.org, they'll help you out. you'll be shocked at what's out there for that inline four. aftermarket as well as junkyard OEM.

I'm glad that those eventually became fuel injected. The carburetors were temperamental.
i remember a friend did a v8 swap in 4cyl with the 4cy transmission. i think he something about the ride was off lol
It wants to pull to the right
That thing needs to undergo a 351W swap. Have fun blowing up that tired 4 cylinder
I sold it, but picked up another one in better condition. Probably post a vid on the new one soon.
The 4cyl is still alive with 190k on it now
