"Move her over on the second slow" is the first a-ha moment I had when learning from Damon. It feels so much smoother and flowy than doing a whole basic in promenade, like other instructors like to teach. Thanks Damon!

You are the BEST! I am a dance teacher in Chelan, WA and I have been teaching based on your instruction. I love how you break down the pieces and put them all together :) Thank you so much.

As always, amazing video and review❤
I kinda wish you would teach more Polka in the Houston community. Most teachers really love teaching TwoStep. OneSteppers are actually dancing to mostly Polka beat songs. Some do it to every type of song, but it’s suppose to be to a Polka beat. That’s why San Antonio DJ’s play 99 percent polkas at the dance halls when playing country, it’s to accommodate the onesteppers.
If someone really wanted to slow down the popularity of OneStep, then educating people on Polka may help.
I feel like teachers enjoy teaching TwoStep far more, with good reason, and Polka gets neglected. This is another reason why OneStep has carried more traction in the last 2-4 years.

Polka has always been here. One Steppers are One Steppers because they’re lazy, period.
They’re not willing or interested in working at learning a real dance. They’re afraid it will expose them as not being very good. There’s plenty of Polka information out they’re not interested.

@@DAmicoDanceHouston I know. It’s just that when you do in-person lessons, it boosts up that particular dance in the Houston community. It’s like you give it a jolt of life when your lessons are going on…You have given the wcs dance an epiPen of adrenaline in the last few months. Wcs popularity has exploded recently due to your in person lessons. It’s crazy. It’s really great to see.

@@robertaxley5781 I hereby challenge you to get 20 30 and under bar dancers to commit to a Polka class and it's on.

@@robertaxley5781 most people believe that teaching 2Step is the answer for stopping OneStep’s popularity. This isn’t the ideal answer. It’s teaching polka… you can’t dance a 2step to most polka songs. It really has to be a polka. But you know what you can dance a polka song to, OneStep. You can also dance onestep to a 2step song(usually not ideal, but technically you can). This is the reason for its popularity as well.
Most people say we need to keep twostep alive. TwoStep isn’t on life support. Polka is. Houston is the last major city in Texas that really has polka, and it’s mostly done by ol’timers. Dallas, San Antonio, Austin are filled with one step. If you stay past 11pm at most dance halls in Houston, you can count in one hand how many people do polka(usually not great either).
Socially; Nclub2, thrip2, cowboy Chacha vital signs are almost gone. Polka will share the same fate if this trend continues. Nobody has enough pull and popularity to save polka other than Damon.
I personally don’t like polka(it might have to do with my laziness 🤭😂😅), but I also don’t want EVERYTHING to turn into nothing but OneStep. It’s nice to see some variety. I also know of a lot of girls who actually really enjoy polka.
Now “Country Swing”, that needs to be put down lol… I hate how UCWDC encourages that nonsense in events. UCWDC is only doing it as a very lazy way to help promote young dancers to join the community. That needs to stop. Instead of the organization trying to actively adapt to the times, they stick to their old ways(old moves, old outfits, old music, old everything) and let country swing lessons happen. It’s awful. ***(edited)I was watching some recent country swing contest videos. It was done by two advance wcs dancers. It actually looks good. It was basically a freestyle, stepping whenever the beat is and also hitting the big moments. That, I can get behind. I guess it’s a lot of the things of how it is taught that it’s just not how I would go about it.
