this song is about my wife, her hair is long, wave and black and her eyes are sea blue, Thanks my Celtic cousin Steve for writing this most brilliant song about her
What can I say, I am lost for words, The great Steve Earle and his very fine band are singing about my Galway Girl
THIS. SONG. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ole Hipee Mr Earl is a Legend in these parts.
Look after yourself Mr. Steve Earle, you are one of a kind , with the loveliest unique music and lyrics.
I fell in love with the real Galway girl, Jacqueline, in 1957
Awesome video of "the greatest Irish song by a non-Irishman"! Thanks for posting.
Awesome talent on that stage. My Dad used to play the Violin in his band. My brother played guitar, I played steel, my sister played piano. My younger brother played accordion and drums. Soooo long ago☮️
Carol WingAnaPrayer sounds like some fond memories. Songs take us to them. ✌
You are full of it if you are talking about Steve's band. He has never had that combination, and has never had a family playing with him.
This is a great irish song, his american author create it well.
Love this song
FANTASTIC ! ! !
Man, Galway women are the most beautiful in the world. Full stop.
Fookin good!
perfect
Great tune! I'm gonna try a cover!
Top!!!
Irish/Scottish and proud of it
LOVE this song
Great song.
We play it ! 🎶🎻🎶🎻
Is me or was Steve's Mando very quiet on that one ??
respect!
Yes that is Allison - she often tours with him
Who is the cute accordion player?
@22grena- presumably referring to 'Dirty Old Town'?
+rumtumbugger
"Dirty Old Town" is not really for Ireland, despite the Pogues excellent version. It was written about Salford, near Manchester. 22Grena seems to be talking about "Song for Ireland."
Such an underrated song
Kate, not true, it is loved in all corners of the world that I have visited,
Where's the 12-string Dano in that mix, ay?
great
😃music p coyle lkl
Does anyone know what the intro part is called?
He never plays it exactly the same, but it is something like this: czcams.com/video/JmS3gPbQG94/video.html
violin babe I'd fall in love with her
She is married to guitar dude, so you are out of luck. (Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore - they perform and record as The Mastersons.)
goodnight moon
পৃথিবী জুড়ে ঘুরে বেড়িয়েছি কখনও গালওয়ের মেয়ের মতো কালো চুল এবং নীল চোখ দেখিনি..
Lyrics:
Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl
We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl
And I lost my heart to a Galway girl
When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
I've traveled around I've been all over this world
Boys, I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl
who's the violin player?
+Tom83 Rodr Eleanor Whitmore. She and her husband Chris Masterson have been touring with Steve for several years now, and tour on their own when they are not out with him.
That one girl on Steve's left could have been in the play Annie with daddy warbuck's.
I think everyone here is quite aware of that fact.
after listening to sharon shannon play it 100 times , this seems really slow ..lol
Love Steve almost better than any roots artist of the past 30-some years....
Tip for those who may be interested in some Irish counterparts: check out Finbar Furey; Seamie O’Dowd; The Whistling Donkeys.
Perhaps because they're married?
I know he wrote it but he should have checked out the correct pronunciation of Galway!
Also isn't the red head fiddle player cute!!
Sounds like he is pronouncing it the same way Ed Sheeran does. I know that doesn't mean he says it correct either. Maybe it is just the way it sounds from a non Irish accent. Also yes she is.
OK I looked up the correct pronunciation. According to the search it is ˈɡôlwā. Which is how Steve is saying it.
The accordian player is one beautiful lady! Not from Galway I presume.....
The accordion player is his wife. At least then, she was. There's some really great pictures of her on Steve's LP, You'll never get out of this world 🌎 alive.
the first been song for ireland ,it was wrote by an english man
Jason McCoy I think James is talking about another song, which is called "Song for Ireland". written by a Brit.... following 22grena's comment below that this Earle song is the second greatest and implying "Song for Ireland" is better.
Not a lot of energy here. Flat as a pancake. And I love Steve.
What's a fella to do, when her hair is long and Silver, and her eyes are blue??
They look fed up bored
P.S I love You.....Lol
korn
who is on fiddle
Her name is Eleanor Masterson. She and her husband, Chris, perform as duo "The Mastersons." Chris is Steve Earle's lead guitarist in this video. They opened for I saw him in fall 2015. Steve introduced them--very cool.
She uses her own last name - Eleanor Whitmore - but is indeed one half of the Mastersons and a regular member of the Dukes now. Wilsmerboywf was confusing Allison Moorer (Steve's wife at this point, now ex) and Eleanor, though I suspect he knows but just had a momentary lapse.
fallout 76
Can't believe he lost his wife to Hayes Carll?
hey both have a lot of baggage, I think, and having a child with a disability is hard on any marriage
..but her previous Songwriter husband lost her to Steve, and around it goes ...
The Steve Earle version contains a bit of aingst and frustraition. Whereas the Irish version is too positive and happy, too much a celeration of girls.
When Steve Earle wrote the song, he was PISSED that he did not get the girl, and depressed......
That's called the blues.... what we learned from our African counterparts...
I dunno....'A broken heart and a ticket home' doesn't sound like real heartbreak...after a one nighter. I think Steve is just being clever. Watch all the knowing smiles and winks when the Irish sing it. I mean common...is black hair and blue eyes really a cause for real love? I think it is sly fakery. Both parties enjoyed the encounter and history will be written that it simply could not be. No one is shamed or pained.
@@xkguy yeah, you might be right. it's a fine line between disappointed and depressed
Well my wife is african and im from newfoundland so i really like your comment..however i beleive steve earle likely has some hidden irish heritage maybe or at least some irish american influence..our american cousins have irish heritage as well as us newfie lads..especially boston, new york, chicago just to name a few..not sure about steves heritage just the same..maybe one of the other fans here may know much more than i
could this band be more stiff
all the clowns in ireland that said was there song
There aren't many under-the-radar legends like Steve Earle. He belongs in any music hall of fame in existence. ✊
I couldn't agree more!! 👍👍
