Tinos is the third largest island of the Cyclades (area 197 sq.km. ) after Naxos and Andros . It has 8,934 inhabitants, [1] according to the 2021 census divided into 62 settlements. It belongs to the northern Cyclades and is located southeast of Andros and northwest of Mykonos .
The distance from Andros, the so-called Andros - Tinos strait, is 1/2 mile, while the nearest distance from the shores of Mykonos is about 5 miles and 9 miles from port to port. South-west of the island and at a distance of 12 miles is Syros , and the capital of the Cyclades prefecture, Ermoupoli .
Tsiknias, located in the east, is the highest mountain of the island with a height of 726 m. In the central part dominates the precipitous rock of Exomburgos (or Xoburgos) with a height of 641 m. with the ancient and Venetian city, whose upper part is invulnerable because it is steep on three sides and the plateau of Patela or "battlefield". The shape of the island is elongated triangular. The total length of the coastline, which presents a rich horizontal and vertical segmentation, with many bays and capes, is estimated at a total of 114 kilometers together with the rocky islets of Kalogeri at the northern end, and the islets of Planitis, Draconisi and Prasonisia on the northern coasts, while the perimeter of its beaches at a short distance from the coast reaches approximately 37 nautical miles.
