Applied mathematics is a discipline that involves using math to solve problems in fields like engineering or social sciences. It relies on principles from other disciplines like computer science, data analysis, finance and economics.
When studying applied mathematics, the courses you take may vary depending on your specialty but can cover statistics, physics, probability, graph theory and algorithms. While many students choose to earn a bachelor's degree in this field, others may earn a more advanced degree such as a master's degree or even a doctorate.

How does one get a job in mechanical engineering if u did applied math in uni
Suggestion:
Lot of times wits students like to talk about how hard it is to cope at varsity, and how 'A' students from high school become average students at wits.
It would be cool if you can make a video, in which you ask wits students , what it takes to be an 'A' student at Wits? So people can be motivated.

Mathematics is a theory behind Applied Maths while Applied Maths is all about application of Maths in the real life situations e.g. Engineering, Economics, Education, Statistics, Medicine, Finance, Data Analysis and Many more. As much as many people don't understand how Mathematics is applied, all the things that are around us are the result of Maths and Science.
Mathematics and Applied Maths at Wits are so challenging, but hey, the only things to survive is 1. Do all assignments given. Research as many as you can. 2. Do as many tutorials as you can and then consult you lecturers by showing them the tutorials you attended. Mathematics and Applied Maths are good combinations.

I passed that 25 years ago but I want to go back for my masters and then PHD.
They are better cause they would be struggling for just 4 hours compared to me I would struggle like 6 months and comes someone and explain it in 5 minutes they I would understand what I was struggling with. WHT I can say to first year students make study groups as early as possible no course is difficult if u were able to pass well in matric without cheating

Go for it. I was average in maths as well, chose to do accounting, and yo it showed me flames.. switched to math 2 years later and flourishing.

Lol she did the right thing trust me and I don't think she was almost done, maybe computer science was gonna add some more years of study for her🤞 I judged from how she answered the what is coding question, you can tell that it affected her so much however the mathematics based questions she nailed them even I who have no idea of what's going on understood. I'm so proud of her❤️
