- Hello, Friends!
Welcome to the first episode of a new adventure I call "The Vintage Guitar Safari," where your Guitar Historian travels the area looking for cool vintage gear and interesting places that sell guitars.
Today, we visited Uptown Antiques in Pitman, New Jersey which is about 25 minutes outside of Philadelphia. This place was absolutely awesome and I even scored a new guitar!
Still working out the kinks of how we're going to do this going forward, but I think I cobbled together a decent video. I felt a little weird talking to myself when there were other customers in the store, hence the quiet playing moments. Next time, though, I think I'll be more comfortable just letting loose.
Thanks to Jack Hill, the owner of Uptown Antiques! Check them out next time you're out that way! They are located at 59-67 N Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071.

I did some research on the 25th Anny Strat and there was actually a serial on the neck plate. The necks did not carry a serial number on this model. So it is probably real and complete.
I dropped a comment for a spot on Danny Gatton and Dave Edmunds....thanks, I don't mean to bug you. Rock on brother.
you could have got a way better Jackson deal then that
Plus hope you find some cool player grade guitars
Squire bullets were undersized for beginners
yes, the 25th anniversary strat looks real!
i cant believe it, i live right down the street from that place. that jackson was my favorite guitar also.
Hey there guitar nerds! Thanks for sharing g.h. got a new Cordoba yesterday soo nice peace to all!
Music Museum, also in Pitman NJ, is where I bought my first electric guitar (a Les Paul black beauty) shortly after Jimmy Zaleski opened his business in 1976. $300, Gibson hardcase included, Day-um! That memory sure take me back.
@ 9:30 walked right by what appeared to be a PRS guitar! $150 for a Jackson guitar sounds about right!!!
Cool video there Historian. I want to go to that place. That's the only other Orpheum arch top I've ever seen that's exactly like mine. I think it's older. Early fifties or even late forties. Very cool checker board binding around the body. Mine came out of NJ also. Rescued out of an abandoned diner in the '90s. I've been playing it more recently so right now I'm in the process of adding side dots to the neck.
Thanks for this! Never been to that particular shop…. Those guitars sound particularly radioactive. Take care with what you bring home.
Happy Birthday! If the Agile is a 3200 model ,that is basically a neck through Les Paul. They are distributed in the U.S. by Rondo Music.
Cool guitar seems like a good price.
Almost at 50k and getting spam comments? Your channel is growing!! I love it. Fun video!
The anniversary strat has the same neck and tuners as mine and doesn't have a serial number either and I know its 100% original as I bought it new in early 1980. Looked like a nice one
Wow I've never been to anywhere in Britain that has so many old guitars in an antique shop
The antique shops around Tennessee are full of them especially Nashville and Memphis.
I'm searching for an Gibson/Epi EB-3 in Walnut since rediscovering Robin Trower. I played the Epi in red a month or so ago and I fell in love with the neck on it.
Chicago music exchange had a 1973 one last time I was there I believe
Well..that was fun! Always a good time plowing through places like that. Here in the Lehigh Valley in PA there are never that many guitars.
Try Quakertown. It used to be good at Greenlane in Montgomery County
@@intuneorange thank you!
I grew up in Gibbstown.. have many friends from Pitman. Many were in my bands. Use to go to the music store in Pitman..
Danny Gatton is a sad but amazing story and/or Dave Edmunds. Thanks so much.
Danny Gatton please!!!!! He was quite simply the best ever.
It's great to see Brian Wilson get out & about!
Pretty Amazing array of guitars. Out west just don’t see that. Kind of a eclectic dealer - probably a musician/Vinyl Junkie that focuses on that stuff. 35/40 years ago I would run across a few decent guitars in Antique stores. Last best find was about 20 years ago. Stumbled on a clean 1952’ Martin 0-15 for $450 sold it years later, but I still have my 1941’ Kay’ Solid wood flattop -that is the best old slide flattop Guitar I’ve run across. Cool Video👍
Ill have to check this place out i live in Philly and work in jersey 😊
I have fond memories of Music Museum in Pitman. Frank was such an awesome guy to work with. It is where I came into the greatest amp I have ever owned; Tube Works half stack. Tube Works has evolved into Genz Benz now. It was always cool to go in and shoot the shit with Frank and the guys there at the store.
Agile guitars are from Rondo music they’re actually not too bad
Cool store, make sure you tune everything you play. Also the Strat anniversary is ash
The cream colored strat with a locking trem was probably the best guitar there. Go back and get it!
I'm from Gloucester County N.J.....I could tell by your previous vids you were a Delaware Valley Resident....This pretty much clinches it.
Yep I’m from Philly
Curious...did you let the owner know that LP was a fake Chibson?
He already knew it.
it is against the law to sell a known fake 'gibson' well it is in my part of the world.
@@TheGuitarHistorian i should report it to the authorities. its called trading standards here in the uk. if you sell known fakes you should be fined and shut down.
@@chickenlickin3820 in america we don’t care. They drug dealers kill their customers with fentynol, its all about profit. Americans are ferengis
Thank you .....if the 79 strat called the strat .....the cherry red and that ofd grey are real
Go New Jersey!
This is a fun idea. Enjoyed it. Just need to work on the sound quality.
For sure. I was also tying to be respectful to those around me. Quite a few people rambled through.
Thanks again for a new adventure! Those “growing pains” sound quality and other assorted mischievous occurrences on this trek will become fond memories of your initial documented safaris. I assure you, many more will come (hopefully!). And to those who cannot resist to taint an act of love and expression on your part, art and beauty has a way of transcending the need to attempt to politicize the craft that brings us the most pleasure. Carry on wayward son…
…but more importantly, in the video near the anniversary Strat, there was a profile view of what appeared to be an Ovation Balladeer type acoustic guitar. What got my attention was the slotted headstock tuners. Is there any outtakes, video/Pix that show more of this item? Interested since I own a ‘85 Custom Balladeer myself due to my early influences of Cat Stevens. And the fact that it was crafted not far from me in beautiful downtown Connecticut. 🙂
Telling us the price on each would have been interesting
What was the original price on the Jackson?
The Kent .... the Dean strat ...and the telecaster deluxe looked decent to me.
Thanks for the video
Thats a Jackson JS32 . They retail new for $199. Great guitar for that price!
It's so disappointing when I am out searching for old Guitars and most of what I find is Strats and Les Paul's be it real or not . I guess you know what I mean.
The Squier Bullet is the real deal, not a mismatched, dinkyish body on a bona fide neck. MIJ, probably '84-'85. I have the same guitar, but with covered single coils. SQ serial on the neck plate. Gotoh hardware. The pickguard is not original and the pickups might have been swapped. Reverb has them covered and not. Sometimes you get lucky with after market pickups. The originals are merely ok. Well worth owning if the price is right.
How much was the gibson with the back missing??? I gotta know
@ 7:10 the neck is original to thy whole guitar.
Were any of the guitars priced? Be nice to know.
They were but honestly the prices were kind of “out there” on some of them. Out of respect for the staff I didn’t want to talk too much about it. But all are negotiable.
That was not a modified squire body. Those Bullets are usually sought out among Squire enthusiast.
Was the guitar shop once called the Music Museum?
Not sure but he did say that he had only been there a couple years.
@@TheGuitarHistorian The Music Museum has been in Pitman for a long time. Maybe another destination for you to check out.
Where is this place? I want the old busted up Gibson.
Jesus christ were you sending morse code halfway thru the video? Cool shop.
You glossed right by a PRS SE.
you should come out to Stroudsburg PA, check out Ant Farm
They did a great job on my 68 Fender Twin !
What's your favorite
How much did he want for that beat down, tore down, backless Gibson. Seems with a little work, that old girl could make a comeback. Just my opinion. But it looked like it just needed the sound bars, & a few braces for the back, plus a pup & tuners (that's where the $$$ gets big). Would love to find one like that. I've plenty of glue & clamps. LoL
He didn’t have a price tag on it but I could put you in touch if you’re really interested he left me his number.
@@TheGuitarHistorian As much as I'd like to, I probably can't afford it. I have my doubts about shipping as well. (I know a couple of people who bought brand new guitars, that were destroyed, for all intents & purposes, before they opened the box.) Besides I'm in KS, which is 1000 miles from NJ. Still thank you for thinking of me. Hope your son, is doing well.
Gee, Just around the Corner ….
You didn’t say which Corner 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
you could have went outside and picked up trash all over New Jersey and you walked right by what was possibly a left-handed BC Rich gunslinger
The fake guitar emporium : ( it is against the law to sell fake guitars!
He’s not selling fake guitars. The Les Paul is marked as fake.
@@TheGuitarHistorian in polite words i say he has loose morals!
@@TheGuitarHistorian, The law states that it is ok to buy a counterfeit but illegal to resell one. Even divulged as a fake it's still illegal.
I love guitars, but this video makes me a bit nauseous. Thanks anyway.
I know that part needs work! Thanks for checking in though.
The anniversary strat has the same neck and tuners as mine and doesn't have a serial number either and I know its 100% original as I bought it new in early 1980. Looked like a nice one
You certainly liked 12:00 . 🙂
