- The anticipated and rumoured Cannondale Super Six must be about ready to launch. @davidarthur predicts Lighter, Stiffer more aero, but what if... Yes, what if Cannondale did it different this year and gave us Quieter, Smoother and more Reliable?

Cannondale Marketing Team: Check out our newly perfected bottom bracket designed by a 5 year old who has trouble finding out if their pen is working!
Another great video, thank you. One thing I'd love to see more of, is channels like yours doing real reviews of new bikes, and last years bikes, (last years bikes is where a lot of us are looking to buy on our budgets!!) We're all fed up of the sponsored channels reviews. I personally love your non biased, and honest opinions.
It is an ambition. It would require a budget to get started and buy in bikes and a means to sell them off that doesn't compromise impartiality...
@@Mapdec just a thought, maybe customers that bring their bikes in for service, may allow you to review them for your channel?
Umm. Interesting
@@Boyiobikes i think that you have to go easy on reviewing a customers bike. If someone just spend 6k on a bike and then sees a bad review from the repair shop🤔. Don't get me wrong, the idea is great. Maybe if mapdec would do a quid pro quo job the customer would say yes. But for my opinion its like walking on thin ice.
Sounds like a bike from 2015. 😂
I agree that BB30 is fine. My Felt uses that standard, implemented with a metal sleeve molded into the carbon. No problems ever.
Thanks for taking the audio issue to heart - we like to hear you, you know ;)
I laughed my kidneys up at this 😂. Thought you’d been over exposed to the workshop chemicals at first, then having got me hooked you nonchalantly throw in ‘but this is what you’re likely to get’ , loved the black humour. Sadly anticipate you’ll be 100% right ……………and once upon a time there used to be proper bikes (before the proper engineers were told to sit in the corner and watch the ‘design team’ ) 🙄
Thanks Kevin
Loved everything on that Vid Paul, yet another great one ! I Especially liked that you added the seatpost slide in there, quirky as they can be, a round adjustable seatpost that's not a nightmare to clamp securely is right in their ballpark ! Want to keep it aero ? Well do it with an adjustable/easy to remove aero fairing divided in spacer sections just like we've had on stems for years now, that would be genius. Have it lined with a rubbery material so it doesn't rattle under rider stress, offer them in a few different colours for creativity (EFxPalace & Bas Tietema would approve) and bang ! Winner !
Also, seeing your summary slide... You're basically asking Cannondale to come up with a 500 to 1000£ cheaper Time Scylon or ADH frame 😂
More like asking for a little more thought in the design process beyond shaving 2g and a tiny amount of drag. They don’t need the construction and layup of a Time,
@@Mapdec Yeah, that one is probably too pricey and much harder to scale up to reach such higher production numbers, i agree. It's just that those Time frames were the first that came to mind that seem to be ticking all of those boxes. Plus the asking price for an ADHX Frame (and fork & gubbins) for instance is not that far from those 3000£ :)
Sound is top on this one 👍🏼👍🏼 great video as always.
Thanks 👍
It's nice when knowledgeable, experienced people tell the truth about products.
Thank You Philip
This made me laugh so much 😂 Manufacturers will only release something they can quantify. Silence and reliability aren't anything they care about. Hence self centering steering, leafspring seat posts, zertz inserts. It is a nice wish list though.
14% stiffer and 18% more compliant...holds speed and transfers power better than previous model.
just numbers numbers numbers.
Very good list of things that Cannondale should do. I am currently in the market for a new bike. My Topstone 0 Alloy is a fair bike with Shimano Ultegra RX. This bike has had some downsides for me. First of all the stock wheels, i only can say totall crapp. I changed them for 32 spoke handbuild dtswiss rimms and 105 hubs. Also the crankset is ... i ordered a grx 810 crankset for it, 2x11. I was looking for a Synapse. But i have some doubts. For me as a tall heavy guy its not that easy.
Cannnodale 2020 Synapse Ultegra owner here. I don't have problems with my through axles or with my shifting and chain alignment. And I'm running an 11:42 cassette with a 50:34 chain ring. Bike is whisper quiet and I move it back and forth from my trainer without having to adjust anything. Perhaps I got lucky? I do have an issue with the proprietary cranks and bottom bracket, however. The inability to upgrade is truly annoying. Insult to injury, I had the misfortune of damaging a crank and finding a replacement was extremely difficult. Were it not proprietary I could have had a new one fitted in hours, not weeks.
Great video 😂👍🏼.
I stick with my 2018 Synapse. With swapped wheels ofcourse, otherwise it would not be a Cannondale.
I see you have that particular love for Cannondale that many of us share despite all those quirks the bikes have. I have just been tinkering in fixing a standard XT crankset to my Scalpel HT...
It is crazy isn't it. I cant help myself.
@@Mapdec As you said: they ride beautifully, so I happily wrench a little more.
I've tried other brands. I always end up going back to Cannondale. I've been riding them since 1991.
I’ve got a hambini bb in my bb 30 Canondale 2012 synapse carbon . Combined with a 5 bolt ultegra Shimano 175 mm cranks there is nothing better. Precious bearings with the best preload crank system available.
Im on the edge of buying this new model, but the 2018 or 2020 year model have a bulletproof confident of perfect work, with rim brake option, so I have to hold my sear and wait
Love that the manuals in the PowerPoint are from the look 795 blade rs, your dream bike I believe.
Next week I will be building up my own in the amazing cameleon color.
Just looking for the documentation it's amazing how little information you get from other brands in comparison with the manual from look.
Well spotted.
@@Mapdec I only saw the frame set and am already totally in love with the bike. It's like a trek madone but well thought out and refined
Audio was great on this one for sure. Curious what solved it, why it happened.
Automatic Noise gate on my recorder. A setting I never recalled using before. Everyday a school day.
I certainly would want the reliable, quiet model! Without a team car following me, unreliable is not an option. If my wheels fail, I could look into the mirror and see who built them!
Fitted new bar tape, brake cable, rear mech and wheels to my RT-58 before last Sundays club ride to Black Rock Café near Bude. Weather was cold and drizzly but bike worked perfectly and had a great ride. Not the lightest bike but easy to work on and favourite bike to ride. Unless you race seriously why bother with the hassle of a super aero/lightweight road bike. Better performance gains to be had from riding frequently, training with a power meter and healthy diet rather than constantly "upgrading" equipment.
What about if you do all that and also get a faster bike?
@@bencousins4687 Fine if you have the skills, budget and patience for repairs and warranty issues. The fastest rider in our club ticks all those boxes. I do wonder why he doesn't enter some races though, seems happy with Strava KOM's.
The UCI allows a 16cm section for the head tube area, and that's just in the length front to back. So why is is so hard to route internal cables? There's a huge amount of room.
Nice presentation. But is the pen working?
Me listening to this while fiddling with my wobbly, misaligned, supported by one flimsy screw mech hanger and R.A.T thru axle xD
I would love to see a brand use the integrated cable routing that Santa Cruz has on some of their mountain bikes, directly in the carbon. I don't like that brands use lighter and lighter paints to save a measly 40g. My old bike got knocked over sometimes and didn't have a scratch, my new bike fals agains a lamppost and bam, the clear coat is damaged🥲. Great video!
Thanks Simon.
Nah, think I’ll keep my 2017 Focus Izalco Max w/ Sram Red eTap, fully external brake cables, Chris King PF30. Light, smooth, easy peasy. I feel sorry for those in the market today.
I kind of feel like the lighter needs to stay now they have added disc brakes to road. I really love the internal routing (if spending the $ I'd like it tidy) even though I do my own maintenance but yes they need to keep improving. I've commented before that press fit bb's have been great for me. But yes comfort (most of us aren't 20 yo athletes) is important.
O gosh. I would love that kind of marketing. Right know all products descriptions sound to me like "you are too stupid to understand, here, have a nonsense pulp instead".
If I get a built bike in the future I’m definitely telling them to drop that steerer down and wrap it with some sort of protective tape.
Audio's bob on this time Paul👍.
Thank you.
Who do you think has the best internal cabling at the moment? I think there are companies out there that put a ridiculously high priced top end bike just to make their lower range look like a better deal than it is.
Oh... for MTB, Santa Cruz, for ROAD? umm. Probabaly ARGON 18 and the TOKEN System storage.googleapis.com/argon18craft/files/Assembly-Guides/2022/SUM-Pro-Assembly-Guide-2022-EN.pdf
@@Mapdec Thanks.
What are your conclusions now that the bikes have been out for a while? Did they fix what you wanted to be fixed? I'm interested in the supersix evo hi mod 2 at the moment but what do you think as a mechanic? Really looking forward to your answer and thanks a lot in advance
It is such a disappointment for the money. A bonkers price for a very average product.
You are a man with a plan. Some one should contract with a Taiwanese company to do this. A road ,gravel, and endurance bike line up in the exact options you laid out. Sell them just like you outlined. Cheers
That would be cool!
I love your list of things that would make the ownership of a bike better, but that's apparently not what sells anymore. It seems like every bike out there has proprietary seatposts, one piece handlebars, weird nonsense like what you were saying about the rear dropouts, etc. The only bike from a big brand that matches your list that I can think of right now is the Aethos.
It's frustrating that the best most reliable bike brand are so hard to get. But I guess that's probably the reason they are the best
27.2mm FTW!
I hope the new SuperSix EVO will be better in all the things you listed. As the owner of Cannondale SuperSix Evo 2021 with Shimano Di2, I can add my observations or dissatisfaction with the bike:
- limited headtube steering angle, hugh construction failure, frame headtube could easy crack
- too wide (and) too heavy OEM handleba and stem
- proprietary stem (changing stock handlebar with other brand requires also change of stem and lot of extra money)
- for 6.500 eur bike price, wheels could be 100g lighter (like KNOT SL with DT swiss 240 internals on Hi-Mod models) and better tyers
That is a good sum up. Thank you.
Would like to see modern frame sets have cable stops built in. I have installed Campagnolo Record onto a 2022 Trek Emonda. Imagine my surprise when I mounted the FD and no cable stop on the frame. For now I am running the Ultegra FD, it just feels dirty :(
Oh. Interesting one. This must be because new Shimano ones have a cable stop built in.
Tire clearance prediction on new SuperSix?

I would buy a cannodale when they announce they have a new head of engineering & marketing: Mr. Hambini! Although he is only 5 years old, we at Cannondale think he will improve our bikes and company!
You’re a fan then
A man can dream.
On the other hand they would be really stupid to price 105 di2 for €5000. Canyon and Cube have already models with that groupset for under €3000.
I've seen kids getting punished for using commutative multiplication (like you have 4 baskets with 10 apples, so it is 4x10 but never 10x4). Now I know why, to distinguish a free creak from a creak free
awesome.
Dear manufacturers, I would buy that bike. Thanks.
I'm not really interested in hidden cockpit cables as I like to inspect my steerer regularly.
And change your headset bearings.
I never knew Cannondale had so many alignment issues.
People on the internet rave on how good the super six is but I never understood the appeal of a Cannondale bike.
It is a bit of a nerd thing. Clever and curious ideas, often poorly executed.
So reliableeeleleler 👍🏼
I think this is the reason it doesn’t get marketing.
*_Work your butt off, buy, throw away, repeat._*
Today, it's all flash, no substance and reliability is a threat to long term profit margin.
BTW, I wish they would do the same for cars, electrical appliances, buildings and infrastructures construction, ...
Guaranteed the free creak won't be a Cane Creek
Thanks for the video!! Audio is better, but it sounds like a helicopter. Doesn’t bother me, but other might be.
Helicopter 🚁
The audio on the previous video was bad, but this one sounded good to me.
I predict heavier and more expensive
So I was a Cannondale fan, bought a top of the range MTB. I may have to write it off as unable to source a replacement headset. Ok, it is 1.25 inch threaded. And it was an M2000 bought in 1993 but little used. But to write off a whole bike because I can’t get a headset. Ffs.
I bet GCN would never call out one of their corporate overlords like you have just done. Some things just need saying , but are Cannondale listening .
I doubt it 😂. Maybe at 50k subscribers
It isn't just GCN. It's David Arthur, Bike Radar, Cycling Weakly, Gravelcyclist, Delaney, etc... All the online paid marketing reps pretending to do "independent unbiased reviews", which of course is not what any of them actually do.
Top model ca 3 k, not a chance mate… More like 8 k, because why not? They can still blame demand, chain supply issues and inflation, the old song.
Frame only.
In that case, Yes, possible. I always wonder why the Fame only from big manufacturers don’t come with NO paint option. I think most people including me, would like a personal paint job when building a custom bike.
@@jevgeniardassov Because most of these cheap outsourced framesets like Crackandales, Specialized's, etc... are actually manufactured in mainland China and then sent to Taiwan for paint and final assembly before being shipped to the countries of final sale. This way they can claim the frame was "manufactured" in Taiwan when it was actually constructed in China. It saves them loads of money in import taxes and allows them to pretend they are not having their framesets manufactured under a repressive regime.
The current supersix evo is THE bike to beat. Seriously, for 8grand a di2 ultegra with amazing wheels is soo much better than the sum of its parts. when you ride a high end cannondale youve got something special. Im excited to see the new ones, dont see how it could possibly be any better, excited to see some paint jobs, hopefully lots of metallic colors
umm... it has a lot of issues, i talked about some in this vid.
@@Mapdec Agree entirely about the issues you pointed out and TheYoungConnoisseur might get ‘ something special’ but probably not in the sense hoped for, never mind it’ll still have a lovely colour 🤔
LOL
Cannondale gave up on any of these precision manufacturing, they're going with a threaded BB again
that does look likely
Rim Brake no internal cable nonsense, round seatpost, direct mount option, 105 $2500
It’s like 2003
@@Mapdec yep Ultegra supersix evo for 6 kilos and like $4k
Ah, dreams .. if only.
Quiet, smooth, reliable…perfect description of my Time alped’huez 21. Built with my choice of wheels and groupset. Expensive? Nope.
I guess dont hold your breath for the FREE shirts the orange beaver got from Cannondale!!
With all that helpful advice I thought I might win a key ring.
Again with the dropped seat stays?
When will Cannondale learn! Everybody else is abandoning them.
Crackandale is really not about serious engineering and they certainly are not about manufacturing quality or quality control. Like Specialized, Trek and Giant they are about marketing and aesthetics of their cheaply fabricated cookie cutter bikes. I'm still amazed at individuals gullible enough to pay thousands of $$$ for cheaply fabricated outsourced framesets simply because Crackandale paid some pros to ride their cookie cutter disposable framesets for less than a single season before moving on to the next disposable frameset. 🙂
Cannondale don't care just make it cheap!! Neither do most other manufacturers!!. Time spent on manufacturing equals money spent!. If they make them outstandingly good you would never need to buy another one lol!. And they need you to buy another bike!.
More educated consumers will get us there.
Only fools buy more Crackandales. I would laugh at any bike shop owner that tried to convince me with a straight face I should willingly spend several thousand $$ on a disposable and cheap poorly fabricated outsourced frameset made in a sweatshop like a Crackandale when I know the real manufacturing cost of that frameset was less than $500 US.
With over 45years of riding quality road bikes I have found that any rig under 8kg is pretty uncomfortable and far less stable when compared to 8.5kg+ bikes, and this loss of stability actually makes the lighter bikes slower. I am achieving better times now than when I was racing fit and this is on my custom steel 8.75kg rig....go figure.
This is very true.
@merlinman1579 Good to hear and point well made 😀. Hope you're not suffering any 'aero losses' through wearing a big smile on every ride. Happy travels.
@@kevinfrost1579 I wear the same smile riding my '79 Dave Moulton! I don't think it's faster, but I'm faster than most of my age group, so it doesn't matter. Solid, reliable, classic.
It funny you should mention that as I got a best time and higher average recently on my old classic alloy 8.4kg bike than my 7.5kg bike with an aeto frame and wheels. Ive retro fitted carbon rim brake wheels and modern gearing to the classic but even so I didn't expect to get best times. I out it down to that extra weight on declines keeping the momentum up allowing me to conserve my input to the next incline. I also think being less skittish on the front makes you feel less nervous so you go faster
Some photos of the bike indicate the head tube angle is way too slack. And handling will be sh@$t. Markings bs will however makes everyone believe the opposite 🙄
I am not so sure about that. I have a Cannondale SuperSix CX which is slack, but that bike is amazingly agile and quick handling. That is even with 38c tires on it. I don't know the voodoo magic they worked, but it works. So, I'd hold off judgment until riding it.
@@DaveCM BS
Nothing new more marketing
Disc brakes for road bikes are rubbish #fact
You’re wrong 😘
No I'm not, might as well be riding a CX, they're overweight, a pain in the backside to set up and the pros hate them.
Nobody in their rihht mind wants a pressfit bb. As a mountain biker, I dont want pressfit bb, headset routed cables, superboost, electronic gears, seat post and suspension.
Really? Pressfit it great when made properly. Internal brake hoses also great. I’m up for semi internal gear cables on MTB. Maybe just the swingarm like Pivot used to do. Dropper posts are amazing.
@@Mapdec mostly speaking for mtbs. 4 days in the alps and the freshly installed hope pressfit bb on my intense carbine was creaking, installed by Steve Peat's mechanic as well. Apparently headset cable routing isn't great for maintenance, but I can see the aero benifits on a road bike. Electronic gears are okay, but not worth the money IMO. I have realised that there are massive diminishing returns once you get past mid range8 (slx works as well as xtr) but with a weight penalty, but most riders will be over optimal weight by 3-4 times that difference if not more. Also Bruni proved that an alloy frame with alloy rims is faster down a hill than anything else at the DH world champs last year.
@@jonathanhowson6420 why was it creaking? Did he measure the frame?
Agreed. Internal cables are for two groups of people. The less than 0.0001% of riders who are pros where every single part of a watt counts. And the remaining non-pro riders who are fashionistas concerned with the aesthetics of their bikes. From a self maintenance and steering impact standpoint headtube internalized cables make absolutely no sense at all. From the standpoint of being able to work on or repair an issue with your bike yourself when on an unsupported trip they make no sense at all. Just another marketing gimmick devised to justify charging absolutely silly nosebleed prices for what are at their core cheaply fabricated outsourced CF cookie cutter framesets and are pretty much always fitted with proprietary bar/stem combos for the internal headtube routing that can't be customized in any real sense for individual customers. What a deal indeed. LOL
David Arthur = the equivalent of a paid Cannondale marketing rep pretending to be an independent bike product reviewer. Guaranteed he'll wax poetic about his free sample being lighter, stiffer, and faster. There will be no mention about the overall cheap shoddy outsourced construction of the frameset, the poorly aligned rear dropouts, the rattling cables, flexing derailleur hangars, poor shifting, or the fact the internal cabled bike is essentially impossible for the owner to maintain themselves. 🙂
🎶 everything is awesome 😎
