I've seen Burkie comment on it elsewhere before but it would be awesome to get the twins in the mix.
Wilson was so understanding and accepting of his firing because he already secured his contract extension. It's easier to walk away quietly and quickly when you're secure financially for the foreseeable future.

That makes no sense. This is one of the few times I agree with Burke. The fans were pissed. The Leafs had never gone more than 3 seasons without a playoff series in their entire history before Burke and Wilson. After 7 seasons at the bottom fans were throwing jersey's on the ice, going to games with bags over their heads. They wanted Wilson's head on a silver platter. The truth is that by letting Burke do whatever he wanted with no regard for cost the teachers union handed Burke a rope, named it win a cup and Burke hung both Wilson and Himself with it.

Once you start listening to the fans, you start to sit besides them, BTW, the Leafs still haven't won a playoff series since the '04 lockout. Only a multi-generational world medical crisis gave the Leafs the opportunity to win a division

Love these videos. I wasn’t aware of the Ron Wilson situation in Toronto. He became a tired act in San Jose and the players stopped playing for him. Seems like a bit of a flip flop though on Toronto’s side to extend his contract then fire him shortly after. Why was his contract extended in the first place? 🤣

Worst era in leaf history, and people trust Brian Burke’s opinion on modern day hockey when even 10 years ago he was thinking the game of a past generation. Guy couldn’t build a team then but sure he can evaluate modern hockey. No wonder he thinks the habs are good, they’re basically the same roster construction that the leafs had 10 years ago.
@@yammie75 oh, I know Harold Ballard. But I consider Burke’s era worse because he had almost unlimited money and resources at his disposal to go along with stable ownership. With all that Burke still didn’t run the leafs any better than Ballard who was a cheap fraud.

I like him on TV on a panel. He has good stories to tell and is good at telling them. The leaf's problem is they can go 0-82 and still be wildly profitable, not Brian Burke.

Worst era? I would say the Harold Ballard years were far worse. I’m an Oilers fan and wasn’t alive for most of the Ballard years, but the more I read on that guy, the more I didn’t want to know. I’m no Leafs fan, but I feel for any Leafs fan that had to endure the 1970s and 1980s. The way Ballard treated Daryl Sittler and Lanny McDonald, among others, was absolutely horrid.
So the fans fired Wilson. Got it. Burke was always overrated.

Wilson was a terrible coach.
Granted, but the Leafs weren’t a good team at the time in all reality. And Leaf fans are some of the most delusional fans in the league. They always expect a Stanley Cup parade every year. Their team is pretty good now but it isn’t Stanley Cup good. I’m an Oilers fan. Yeah, we have McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Nurse, and old man Smith. Outside of that, it’s a pretty ordinary to underwhelming roster. Should we have got swept by the Jets? No. Am I surprised that the Jets won the series regardless? Also no. I just thought it would have went more than four game though. Sometimes being humble is a good thing despite how immodest I sound by trying to be humble. Most Leafs fans I’ve encountered are not humble. Centre of the universe man, centre of the universe.
