The modern soldiers are most effective when they fight together as a group. It wasn’t until you commanded them to start moving about (allowing individual troops to become isolated) that they began to take serious losses.
I think the bigger issue is that 3000 of them drowned.
What we always wanted to know but were afraid to ask in history class! ^^

Modern soldiers defending an outpost like this would have large guns, artillery etc, soldiers would have grenades and claymores, etc
