    This was taped just after the original board's mechanism (it was the long-disused "Nighttime Concentration" board that had sat for 12 years in NBC's Fort Lee, New Jersey warehouse that went out to California ) had completely died. It was rebuilt with a faster and more reliable mechanism and one change came with it. The two "Bonus Number" cards replaced the two "Forfeit 1 Gift" cards; that marked the end of the Forfeits on every version of "Concentration" to come. They were considered pointless with the elimination of the gag prizes in this version. The daytime Concentration board was still in use when this version was about to start taping, because the NBC version with Bob Clayton was winding down in 30 Rockefeller Plaza. With the exception the trilon cards and a few parts shipped to Hollywood as spares for this version's board, it was scrapped after series ended. The prize board doors from the nighttime version had been shipped out to California and cut down as permanent prize boards on the Hollywood set. The desks are from the daytime Concentration set and were shipped to Hollywood immediately after the final show taped. They were refitted with the signal buttons and lights.

      Fascinating stuff. I was hoping when Buzzr got G-T Concentration they'd air eps from the 1st season, so we could see (and hear) the old board mechanism at work. I'm curious if it was just as slow as the daytime one.
      But I'm still glad to see it again :)

    • @ronflatter1235
      @ronflatter1235 Před 4 lety +1

      That is substantially true, except there were not two boards at NBC. Just one. (Why would there be two?) The one that was used at the end of the NBC run in spring 1973 was shipped to California for the fall 1973 launch of the syndicated show.

    #1 Jack Narz doesn't stand in between the contestants in this early episode. Wonder when that changed?

    I hope Comcast-NBC/Universal brings back "Concentration," or allow FreeMantle Media to produce it for first-run syndication. The 30-piece puzzle board would work out again due to the better technology that is available now as opposed to what Alex Trebek worked with in the '80s "Classic Concentration." Also, the bonus round puzzles would be done differently: first trip for $10k; second trip for $25k & new car. And if time ran out and it's FreeMantle-produced....cue the "Losing Horns."

    The car cue... was it used on Concentration first, or on Price first?

    Hmmm! When Johnny O was reading that prize copy about the Chevy Vega hatchback doing everything well, he made no mention of it rusting into a million pieces...lol

    This was a daily show, meant to be a strip, actually. However, some stations only aired one episode a week!

      Yup, some shows back then could be seen once, or up to five, times a week---hence the "see you next time"....

    Better Jim Victory than Viacom ijs. Great way to do a bonus round. I always thought the Trebek "Match a car" one was a bit tough imho

    About Game #1, if I were the producer and since she didn't use the Bonus Number, I'd have given her a 10 second bonus for a total of 20 seconds to play the Double Play round.

    Dont know why but liked the sound the board made when the squares were turned....LOL...One question, saw here how when the constant picked a prize then got one of the WILD Cards, werent they supposed to show where the second prize was if correct, like for instance when she picked the Encyclopedia and then she also picked and found the wild card, thought that they were supopsed to show where the second encyclopedia was......

    How did Mark Goodson acquire Concentration from Jack Barry?

    • @devares2006
      @devares2006 Před 7 lety +1

      Peter Moran He didn't. NBC brought the rights to the show after the quiz show scandal. Goodson-Todman just packaged this version and CC.

    • @markschildberg1667
      @markschildberg1667 Před 14 dny

      NBC licensed the rights to Concentration to Goodson-Todman for 20 years, from 1973-93.

      This production number points to the Thursday episode of the 34th week of taping (34-4).

    • @Tubewings
      @Tubewings Před 10 lety +1

      tsskiller08 I don't know...considering the tape date, I'd be willing to bet this was indeed the 344th episode, and that it was from the second season.

      tsskiller08 Sounds like precisely the same numbering scheme that Price is Right uses (except for the letter designations that TPIR uses also)
