Elk are deer, a deer is any ungulate that belongs to the family Cervidae, the biggest required trait that deer have is a pair of antlers.
True but elk do have some traits that deer do not like the color of their body, the hair on their necks, and their calls.
My thing is if you have to hunt them inside of a fence you are. Not a hunter

Are these deer really special or are they just well fed with lots of supplements? I’d rather shoot a completely wild 130” 8-pointer than one of these farm grown mutants. Also, how do these guys test for things like CWD before the deer are sold?
