- The WHO released a report in 2014 warning that the 21st century could see the beginning of a post-antibiotic era and recent research from around the world has added further evidence that this era is eminent. In the absence of viable alternatives, a post-antibiotic era would have a serious impact from the field to the clinic- everything from raising livestock to routine surgeries would become more challenging if not impossible. This roundtable will explore whether we have already entered a post-antibiotic era, the global effects on health and agriculture, and some of the best hopes for combatting antibiotic-resistance with novel therapeutics and techniques.
