Awesome interview so far. Really appreciate the detail, and also... Tom saying Ilan wrote more of the album musically actually makes me like it more. Not because I had anything wrong with the other AVA albums, but it's good to know Tom recognized giving someone more power with the music could be just what AVA needed.
it's cool to see tom talk about how he got rid of his vices and let ilan put his effort to this album. you can tell it sounds so much different not only because it doesn't have those atmospherical stuff and giantic guitars, but even in chord/note progressions. it's not something tom would approach alone. it's the first time i feel that an AVA record is really collaborative =)
@@ph8818 Since Lifeforms has come out and even for me with Dream Walker he’s a perfect fit, obviously he’s not Atom but it’s better that he’s not just trying to be Atom and he was essential in pushing the band forward which is what the band needed after Love Part II, that album is great but that old sound was starting to get repetitive and a bit boring

Also I'm a big fan of AVA but let's be honest I have a feeling Atom (and other members) left unsatisfied not seeing the project going anywhere and with Tom who just isn't a very good live singer anymore. I don't really like Ilan Rubin and there's no way just the 2 of them could fill out the Matt, Atom, David setting here. I already felt kicking Ryan Sinn was wrong, but I-Empire was by far the greatest album. Now AVA is just 2 dudes, which is (punt intented) some kind of aliennated brainchild of 2 individuals which is cool but not very realistic. I mean Tom good talk shit into a mic and people would still dig it because they're loyal BUT it just majorly SUCKS that AVA is not a serious touring band anymore. I'd have given my left nut to be at that '06 San Diego show or the I-Empire dates. Those 2 albums were like the Thriller or Rumours album from AVA.
First two albums were definitively their best work still to date. But I wouldn't say they went to complete shit like some other bands like Placebo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, well basically most bands.
Life forms is one of their best albums, it’s a perfect mix of all of Tom’s different influences and there’s some old AVA sprinkled in there but they don’t just rehash the same sound and after Love Part II I was happy that they didn’t just try to rehash the same sound over and over again
Dream Walker has their best music it’s not even up for debate. Their earlier stuff is objectively not as good as what they are making now. Dream walker and on is top stuff. Part 2 is good.

Sadly when Adam left, thats when the band went downhill. Love 1 and 2 were okay but its been pretty bad
