That 105 MC is probably my favorite prime, love it! There's something so immersive about macro photography, I always feel like I'm diving into a different world in the viewfinder. Pure escapism. Thanks Morten!
I love macro! When I cannot find animals to photograph, it’s something I can always fall back on. That 105 is the best macro lens that I have used.
I agree, macro is far more relaxing and mindful, I could spend just a while going round the woods/ my garden taking really nice photos, or I could go out all day looking for birds and get one dodgy photo of a far out buzzard. Happy snapping 🙂
Morten, doing macro, and 'nailing it' too. It just doesn't get better than this. Thanks Morten! 👏👏👍
Thanks Morten. I was really hoping that someone would produce a macro demonstration video for the Z8 and the 105/2.8. Your timing was perfect! Thanks so much.
I'd love to try the 105mm macro : ) And a little tip from a macro enthusiast: Going for the insect is easier if you set the focus very close and then move the camera instead of twisting the focus ring 👍🏻
I think this tip especially useful for all max magnification work.
And then it is even easier with the camera on a tripod with a focusing rail that allows you to slide the camera forth and back in a subtle way
Beautiful images of some beautiful little flowers on a beautiful day! How wonderful.
Thank you for sharing some of your tips and setups. Lovely photos. Always enjoy your videos.
I am a huge fan of macro photographie! The pictures look amazing.
I've enjoyed using the 105mm lens. I used it for macro work to start with but then started using it for portrait work, too. I've had a good bit of success using my 80-400mm lens for macro work, too. Insects, flowers, etc. I don't have to get so close and the 45 mpx sensor lets me crop without losing image quality. Works fine for some types of insects that are more sensitive to my movement. I did like the way you can use those buttons to move your point of focus for composition. I'm still using the D850 so I just center those small subjects and then crop for composition. Anyway, it was good to see you in a comfortable climate and not freezing your @$$ off in the blowing snow, Morten. Hope to see more of this in the coming summer.
Wonderful macro shots, Morten. My favourite was at 4.53 with the shadow of the stamens on the petals, just beautiful. Thank you lovely man.
Hi Morten, I got the 105 mm lens some weeks ago . Thank you for your advice how to set it/the camera. Still learning and playing around getting to know it, but I'm really happy with it, Results are much better compared to my old macro lens, I always felt uncomfortable with. Already got some nice flowers and insects exactly the way I intended it. Even aphids and plant bugs have interesting structures and colours. Most of my pictures becoming part of my archive are used for lectures in ecology. At the moment I just set up a feeding place for butterflies and found a place with grashoppers in different stages of their developement. They are sooo quick and dive into deep vegetation. As you mentioned, one advantage of the Z-Series is the low weight, especially in such situations, not to forget using the screen instead of the viewfinder to minimize the shade of a head and escaping "prey".
Macro is my fav and I just got into the Z with 6ii and love it. I don't have a macro lens yet and I am happy I happened across your video! I have watched 2 on this lens and I think I am sold. Thank you. also thank you for explaining the function buttons. I was watching you use the camera and now I know I have much much more to learn about these cameras. Love the video and your photography is beautiful.
Short but beautiful video Morten. Have a nice day!
El nikon z 105 es una maravilla , no deja de impresionarme cada vez que lo uso , gracias por compartir configuración y motivación con tan bellas imágenes.
I also love my 105 mc macro! Great job Morten.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts
Great in simplicity! Great video!! Great shots!!!
Each of your video's is sooooooooo amazing- thank you! 🥰
Always enjoy your videos !
A ton of fun. Great info. All from a little walk in the woods. It just doesnt get much better., Morten 😊 Warm regards, from Coral 🇨🇦
This is where a monopod comes in handy.
It will obviously only help on the horisontal axis but the freedom of movement is valueable also if you use the rocking back and forth technique for focus or bursts for stacking.
Thank you for sharing - stay safe
Another wonderful video... The Z8 advantage for this kind of photography... Very nice tip from you, that probably I didn't realize as I shoot with the Z9 myself... That is the lack of grip comes in handy in this situation...
It is nice to see his videos are excellent documentaries what he exposes of the places he visits, his respect he has about nature and the animal world. His humble way of expression, the simple way he teaches, speaks of a great experience in his field. The Nikon commercials are with element of style and it is forceful because we see how you use the camera. Take care. All the Best. Greetings from Mexico.
I always enjoy your videos, Morten, and I always get a kick out of your coffee addiction LOL. I also love a good cuppa. Thanks for another fine presentation.
Beautiful
Do consider next time testing out the Focus Shift function, where you can then stack multiple images - you may still be artistic with everything, but the flower (or any other) subject will be real sharp. When I read the video title I expected some comments on this. Anyway, I also use the 105mm and love it for macro - thanks for the nice video.
I use my 24-120 for „Macro“ from time to time. Not that good, but it is o.k. Most of the time I use my telephoto lens for German wildlife, and macro, too. Thanks for your video, Morten 🙏 👍
I have the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro on my Canon T8i. Great lens.
Great as always! :) Unfortunately, my Nikon 200-500 lens is now broken and it is in Nikon service, but I hope it will be ready soon.
Nice ❤
The advantage of us, as a tripod as you can do. Focus stocking. I take anywhere from 10 to 20 photographs of a flower and then focus stack them in Adobe Photoshop.
Love from India ❤
Hi Morten! Yesterday I came across Lanius collurioand a viper)
Very interesting presentation. I do a lot of macro on flowers. The zoom function on the f1 button looks very useful. However, I can't find it anywhere on my Z8. I assume it is somewhere in the Custom controls. Could you please explain in more detail what you do to set this function?
Trying to decide between this lens and the Z 24-120. Different use cases but can only get one for my upcoming (milestone) birthday. Leaning towards the macro as if this video was a sign. LOL
Epic
nice
Thank you very much Morten. Do you reveal the brand / model of your cool hat? All the best from Germany, Christian
I can't get low enough with the Z9 for mushrooms, I use the Z7II which can get just a little lower than the Z8.
Good morning Morten!
Good morning 😊
We call them "hvitveis" here in Norway. We also have the blue one, called "blåveis"- which is the same name as what we call a shiner (black eye). :D
You're right, tripods are useless when it comes to macro 😆Wood anemones are some of my favourite flowers to photograph 😀 And even the best gear can't compete with random wind 😉
nice photos as always, morten :) just curious, what kind of coffee do you drink?
Hej Morten! Måske et tip, jeg bruger et Sirui AM 233 stativ til macro som jeg synes er helt fantastisk og så vejer det næsten ingen ting.😉
❤
First like
long time no see bro
Wildlife Photography you turn into Nikon Rep!!
Hi Morten every time I see one of your videos you make me want to go out even if only to catch 2 nightingales, but I have one person who hates you a bit, my wife because I make her watch your videos over and over again, bye Morten to your next works
After a bad experience recently I can’t help but wonder how you protect yourself from ticks.
What was the backpack used in the beginning of this video?
The finger names in English are thumb, index, middle, ring, pinky.
Good to see you do some macro. One of my fav genres to shoot, myself. Using vintage manual lenses on an old DSLR. So quite a lot of weight in my setup. =D
105 MC is my favorite lens last time. Took a lot of great shots with this lens. Greetings from Vinnytsya, Ukraine.
Hello, I have a question for you: do you think that for me, as an amateur, the combination of the Nikon z6 and the Nikkor MC 105mm 2.8 S lens is sufficient for macro photography, and would changing the body to the Nikon z7 change a lot, best regards,Paweł
Hello Morten! 🇵🇰
Maybe it's me, but the voice audio is delayed. Maybe less than 1 second but lipsink does not match the audio
U r not replying to comment but plz check 200-500lens with z8 and plz share ur thought with us.
I use it with my z9 and it’s the best the lens has ever been. Used it for several years with my d850.
Index finger (English) trigger finger (USA)
Thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, pinky finger
Apparently, the word "pinkie" is derived from the Dutch word pink, meaning "little finger".
You should consider using a flash with diffuser
Thumb
Index Finger
Middle Finger
Ring Finger
Pinky Finger
Macro?? What happened to wildlife/landscape?
Fingers in English starting from the left side of this emoji 🖐️ 1:Pinky Finger 2:Ring Finger 3: Middle Finger 4: Index Finger 5: Thumb
Maybe this will help. Have a great day 😊
My dream is to do photography but I don't have a camera and can't afford to buy one..🙁🙁Please gift me a camera,in my home in Bangladesh😔🙏🙏
You heva minimum gear about 10.000 usd and take a picture for rubbish flower.. İnteresting..😏
Flowers, like children and music, are gifts of God. We can say what we please. We all have come from dust and to dust we shall return.
If you have nothing kind to say then say nothing at all. Criticism can be constructive and kind. No need to be peevish. Morton is the epitome of kindness and his love for all nature is clear. Learn from him, I suggest.
I criticized him gently. Are you Morton's lawyer? Go and do your own thing.
