I'm enjoying the abundance of these TRUCK WEEK videos. I could easily watch this TRUCK WEEK all month! As a matter of fact, I'd love to see your programming on the TRUCKS staggered in with the Cars every other month bases all year long!
I grew up in the 50's , back when hardly anyone owned a pickup. Look around you now, everyone owns a truck! Just notice how many parts company & repair catalogs are available and have been for a long time. And today's Truck's, they're practically all 4 door models with very little cargo capacity! People love their TRUCKS and SUV's that can pull trailers to haul when needed.
Get Well Steve! We need you out here working, making videos on the Truck's of Today's hauling world.

I like 'em too. There's a lot of appreciation for old Ford and Chevy trucks but not as much it seems, for these old Mopars. Too bad. I think they're sharp looking.

It all depends on what circles you hang around with and what dealers were available in your location back in those days. The same goes for the farming community as for what tractors they bought. Where I live, it was either Oliver, Farmall, or Ford. That was it. Drive 90 miles in any direction and start seeing different colors, makes, and models.

Here's to another day closer to you returning to the yards. I just flew through Detroit's Coleman Young airport, so it's unique to think how many vehicles featured here were made very close to where that is. Detroit's airport (DTW) is in Wayne County where Ford has a plant. As stated last time:
This is possible code "J" Turquoise exterior paint. The VIN on this one is a mystery of sorts. 1961 Dodge D100 VINs should be something like 11 for D100, then six or eight for 6 or 8 cylinder equipped, then the plant code (1 or 2 for Warren, MI assembly for example), then the rest is the production sequence with the "stack" determining the model year. The only thing that lines up here is the 11 for D100. Strange.
There are known discrepancies with the production information on these early trucks, so it's anyone's guess how it may have worked back then. Yes, that's an internal modification detail certifying that the modification was done by Chrysler for a specific purpose (as stated, a slide in camper). Ford still does this today with "This vehicle is equipped with the Ford Ambulance prep. package".

I believe he misread the S.O. Number (shipping order) for the VIN, this doesn’t appear to be a 61, rather 62-pre February 65. 61 had a one year only mesh aluminum style grill that was very fragile, as well as a round gauge cluster with 5 gauges, in appearance very similar to the “Heavy Duty” gauges offered till 65, just without the tach.

Lots of fun trying to find all the changes between this and my old 1971 Dodge! It was a good truck in its day, but now it would be likened to a riding lawnmower in ride and other creature comforts. Of course, that was when base line trucks were cheaper than base line cars, and it showed!

Proportionally, that Stromberg carb looks like it came off a lawn mower in relation to that 318 Poly. I remember a later 60s magazine article I’d read- probably a 1967 Popular Mechanics, testing the Big Three’s light trucks. The Dodge got high ratings as the most “car-like” based on way it was equipped. Anyway, thanks for still posting these videos and again, still praying for your swift and full recovery.

I actually like the first gen of the 1961 trucks better then the later ones with the "pie plate" single headlights. If you look at the grill it is very similar to in shape to the 1961 Chrysler 300. Chrysler wasn't shy about borrowing styling touches from its sister divisions.

I had a 62 short wide with a slant 6, very cool truck. I got it for $250 because it was only running on 5 cylinders. Took it home, the no 1 plug hasn't been changed for years because you had to take the generator loose to get to it, apparently that was too much work for the po. A fresh set of plugs and it was running great and back on the road. Sold it to my neighbor a month later for $800.
