    There's something I've been really curious about ever since I had a hot tub. I've struggled to balance the chemistry and keep the water clear early on but I've noticed whenever I go to hotels or resorts that have hot tubs, their water is always crystal clear. It's safe to say no one is showering before going in there and after a few drinks, there's probably more than water in there. What exactly are they doing to keep their's so clean with so much traffic in and out of it?

      Good evening, they have a maintenance man on site and they over chlorinate the water. Personally, I would never get into a resort hot tub. Personal preference. Hope this helps!

    I don't really love this advice for one reason, it relies on the frequency by which you use the tub to determine how often you shock the tub. I've seen the same with chlorine. One tablespoon after each use. People hear that and they stick with that. This could lead to too much or too little. I know Brian said no more than two or three tablespoons per week, but then why tie it to your bathing frequency?
    It's easier for me to simply put a tablespoon of chlorine in the tub every 2 days, and I shock on the weekend. This helps me maintain a consistent base level of both. If I need more, I can always add.

      Good afternoon, that's why discussion is great and you have to do what works for you and there's many ways people maintain their hot tubs. For the past 20 years, I have personally made it a routine to shock my tub after every use (no more than 2-3 tablespoons a week). In my opinion, this practice is crucial because it helps immediately eliminate Chloramines, which can lead to various chemical issues if left in the hot tub over time. Chloramines are essentially waste products from Chlorine. It's also essential to remember that we use shock treatments to break down any organic matter that remains after use as well. Hope this helps!

      @@atlantahottubcenter Hi Brian, what do you think of this....
      I followed Jacuzzi's advice for shock and chlorine which was a tablespoon of shock and a tablespoon of chlorine after each use. For us that's maybe 2-3 times a week tops.
      What I noticed was a lot of cloudiness, and even green water was not uncommon (albeit clear) some weeks. I did my best to keep all levels right where they needed to be (Alkalinity, pH, filters, draining schedules, no detergents etc...). I stay on top of it more than most I think.
      A few other interesting notes...
      My chlorine levels were consistently low. like between 1-1.5ppm for all chlorine levels. I wasn't sure how good this was, but it would take far more than a tablespoon after each use to bring this within the "acceptable" range. When exactly should my chlorine be between 3-5ppm? Right after I add the chlorine? Cuz my hot tub just eats it!!
      The Jacuzzi shock I have suggests that you should add a capful (25g) after each use, but If you see any cloudiness, add 100g per 1000l. That's far more than your suggesting.
      It's all so confusing. I'm wrestling with super low chlorine, cloudy water, and green water that is more frequent than I'd like. It's a real pain.
      The only thing that seems to have addressed all of these concerns somewhat consistently is a tablespoon of chlorine every other day regardless of usage and to occasionally add even more if any of those things come up. I also have turned to a weekly shocking (2-3 capfuls), although I just started doing this because I had heard that adding chlorine and shock at the same time (which I had been doing) wasn't the best way to do this and everyone and their dog recommends shocking only once a week.
      I don't know man.. if you have any advice, lemme know! I love your videos!! :)

      @@cre8ivjay Good afternoon, you really shouldn't add chlorine and shock at the same time, as it's largely redundant to do so. Ideally, you should shock the hot tub when the water is cloudy or after use and add Chlorine as needed. I would suggest keeping Chlorine levels lower and add some throughout the week. Before my latest Sundance hot tub, I kept my hot tub water around 2-3 ppm. I know the cdc says 3-5 ppm which is fine but a little too much for me. I used to add a tablespoon every 2 or 3 days. That would be my opinion. Remember, the pH is critical to keeping Chlorine in the water. If your pH isn't right, you'll struggle to keep Chlorine in the water. As pH goes up, the ability of chlorine to kill germs goes down as well. So, start by always balancing your pH then balance your Chlorine and shock after use. Hope this helps!

      @@atlantahottubcenter Thanks Brian! One last question.... what do you think of the "bleach method". I hear a lot about that as a way to sanitize while keeping CYA in check.

    Should i leave the hot tub uncovered for a while after i shock it to let it off gas? Thanks

      @atlantahottubcenter  Před rokem +2

      Good morning, it's always a good rule of thumb to leave the hot tub uncovered after adding chemicals. However, not everyone has time to do so. The chemicals can have a negative affect on your pillows, cover, and any other parts between the water surface and the cover. You'll most likely replace this parts sooner unless you leave the cover open. Hope this helps!
