I consider “Stimpy’s Invention” THE quintessential episode of the show, as many of its scenes have sustained an impact on pop culture and continues to be referenced and remembered long after the episode’s incredibly long awaited debut. Although it isn’t my favorite episode overall (that would be “Man’s Best Friend”), “Stimpy’s Invention” is what defined the show for fans of multiple generations and will continue to be a must watch anytime I revisit the series.
I agree, if there is any episode that could summarize the influence of Ren And Stimpy it would be Stimpy’s Invention. I have a couple other episodes I also would put up there next to it but it is really the most Ren And Stimpy episode of Ren And Stimpy.
I agree as well. To me, this is the most memorable and iconic.
This is why the series got renewed for a second season
Oh definitely. This recap is bringing back memories of watching this nonsense with my friends
Personally, I liked Ren's maniacal laughter when he was cleaning Stimpy's litter box more than the maniacal laughter he made when ironing Stimpy's underwear.
According to animation color supervisor Teale Wang, she painted at least fifty different versions of the box Stimpy gives Ren, because Kricfalusi could not decide.
That explains a lot about his extreme perfectionism
This whole ep was a banger. The bit where Ren is ironing and he laughs, his upper skull separating from his lower jaw, was the single funniest thing I had ever seen on television up to that point. I laughed so hard I couldn't take a breath in for like a minute. It still makes me laugh.
You skipped the line "I... must... go... do... nice... THINGS!" and all the great expressions therein. The one for "go" shows the end of Ren's mouth forming a perfect circle with the word "GO" inside.
"See how I love to clean.....filthy cat boxes!"
I love this episode so much! The dialogue and faces, even the animation itself, is impeccable and I love how insane Ren gets. This truly was John K.'s magnum opus of the show, even if it took longer than the deadline to produce it. Stimpy is so adorable here, and he really is when he's all happy dancing to Happy Happy Joy Joy. Bottom line, this episode is an instant classic and one I really turn to when I need to watch the show.
You did a great job so far with this season, and I hope you have fun doing Season 2, because believe me, it's my favorite season! I'll see you there!
Fun fact: On the Paramount+ and presumably the Nickelodeon version of this episode, when Stimpy says "You don't suppose... he's unhappy!" his nose is split for some reason, but the DVD version, which you took your clips from, corrects it.
It’s truly a classic episode and one of the greatest episodes of John K. I’m excited to get into season 2 as well, it’s a really interesting season.
The nose thing I actually had no idea about, I often check the wiki for the fun facts and the split nose thing wasn’t even mentioned there.
Not sure if you noticed but cool little detail in the cheese-o phone scene. 1:50 So like you slow frame stimpy getting hit with the cheese and you can actually briefly see the word splat on the cheese. Not sure if that was intentional or if that's a mistake from the storyboard but it's pretty cool. And then again right here 10:51 you slow that down you can actually see the like lighting rod that meant to symbolize the usage of the remote flying across the screen right there and that is what ops ren to stop with the presumed murderous intent and start dancing
Wow awesome catch on the “Splat”. I never would’ve seen that
Thank you for these videos.
Excellent work on this video--- it is the first one from your channel that I've found, after browsing background music from the R&S Show here on CZcams. I've subscribed, and will be catching up on your other videos at my leisure. Of course, this particular episode is a classic, very iconic, and arguably a big fan-favorite. It's nice to see someone who appreciates the show and its glorious craziness and fun. I'm always so taken with their animation, backgrounds, zany humor, music selections, and voice work.
There is a ton of pop culture in the show, and I probably don't notice it all, but what I do "get" is a hoot. I mean, in this episode there are certain things that tickle me, like the record album cover with a caricature drawing of what I suspect is American folk singer Burl Ives. It could not be anyone else. I only know about Ives because a few of his tunes have made their way into some movies and TV shows over the decades. Plus, I have seen him in classic movies like "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" where he played a big, surly patriarch of a Southern family in a household that's brimming with melodrama. But I'm rambling.
It stirkes me funny that _Stimpy_ is the character who they made a mad scientist, when it would seem that Ren would most likely be better suited, considering his deranged personality traits, haha. But it is this way, and it's really fun. Any episode where Stimpy does experiments is always a delight to me. Plus, anything that involves something dark or gruesome or weird is right up my alley ... like "Double Header", "Ren's Brain", "Ren's Retirement", and "Ren's Bitter Half".
I like that you even spoke about the title card. Some of those are fantastic, aren't they?
Okay, well, I've typed enough for now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and reactions. I kept nodding through this video like a lobotomy patient, because I kept agreeing with things you had brought up. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
Thanks a lot for the kind words, it means a lot. I myself barely get any of the pop culture references in this show, had no idea about the album cover as most things go over my head but it’s so cool that I can upload these videos and have other fans of the show fill in the blanks. As for the darker weirder themes in this show I totally agree, those are my favorites and I’m looking forward for going through 3 of the 4 you mentioned (I did Rens Retirement last week). Looking forward to seeing you around!
Best episode ever!!!
In the episode Stimpy‘s fan club their house goes from a trailer to a regular house a couple of times with the mailman scene. But as a kid I was too busy laughing at the contraption Ren was driving that looked like Stimpy to notice the house instead of a trailer house. Stimpy‘s invention is the episode where Ren calls Stimpy a sick little monkey. Then I hear that phrase on hey Arnold from Helga calling curly a sick little monkey it is hysterical!
Stimpy's Invention is probably the most popular episode in the show, and probably the most liked by fans and critics. It definitely shows that it has been worked on for a year, the animation is top-notch. I have to say, however, that I feel sorry for the animators and Billy West. He is a great voice actor, but too much is too much. Nonetheless, this episode is insane and fantastically done. Rank: 10/10
kids? All respect to the original shows, but try to imagine a world where television animation never improved beyond that of the 1980’s, such as Transformers or Danger Mouse. Ren and Stimpy was groundbreaking in that a simple scene where putting a helmet on a chihuahua with little to no dialogue could still become a grand creative masterpiece for animators.
the second season premiere is in the army and powdered toast man.
These reviews are great! I look forward to all your content in the future
I really appreciate it! We got a lot of content coming as we get further into the show

Anyone else get P5R third semester vibes from the happy helmet thing?
Happy Happy Joy Joy song never gets cringe
Its a classic
I loved your season one recap! Really the only feedback i have is maybe add some production music? Just to add some extra pizazz lol, other then that good stuff!
I appreciate it a lot! I have wanted to use production music in the videos but the video gets blocked if I even play the intro music for more than 5 seconds so it’s almost impossible.
0:38 They use this red and yellow text with black background until sven hoek in production order
2:25 Ren's tail
