Don't be embarrassed dude. You're the only one who did the right thing. The other two put themselves at risk of becoming hostages or worse by staying. You on the other hand trusted your instincts and got away from the danger in a timely manner. That was the correct move. Staying was the wrong move. Too many people become victims because they fail to act when presented with a threat. Crime, violence, disasters, accidents etc. Usually the solution is just to GTFO immediately while the window of escape is still open. The other two likely stayed out of disbelief and confusion. They didn't understand what was happening, so their "GTFO" instinct wasn't triggered, or it was overridden by their conscious decision making faculties which were confused. It's also possible that the "criminals" being between them and exit had something to do with it. And after a moment, the other two looked at and engaged each other meaning the decision to act became a collective one and in that scenario, each person is waiting for the other to act which means nothing will happen (herd mentality/bystander effect/diffusion of responsibility). The bottom line here is to always trust your instincts. When your gut tells you to GTFO, you GTFO. The part of your brain that subconsciously handles the fight-or-flight response is better/faster at assessing threats than your conscious self is. That's what it's there for - to keep you alive. Always trust it. Worse case scenario it's wrong and you embarrass yourself by running away unnecessarily. It's always better to risk embarrassment than to risk death.
