@@metalica2274 it’s not always necessarily going against each position. It depends on the play. Some plays may have the Line backers blitzing the A gap to sack the QB or have them at the B gap or just back to get the running back. Or have DB’s not doing man to man, etc. It really just all depends

Hey. I already know a lot about football before even watching this video but I appreciate you trying to teach others about the game. Some things you missed out are the tight end which is a combo of a blocker and receiver. on running plays you could have 2 to help block and on passing plays usually 1 but rarely youll have 2 to make the defense think its going to be a run Also you missed on the fullback which is key for running plays to succeed. I know its pretty complex but I think you can do it in a more simple way then I can. Thanks for teaching kids around the world

I agree with everything you said. Do you think it's fair to say, the dual TEs are used more in the passing game these days than they were in the past? When New England was doing it with Gronk and Hernandez it was very effective. That was a hell of a pair of TEs on the field at the same time. When Gronk was at his peak, he was the best TE I have ever seen play.

Think of it like capture-the-flag but with chess pieces, and similar rules for each piece's / players movement.
Quarterback = King. Slowest, but most important. Gets the ball first on most offensives play.
Running Back = Queen. *Should* the games most utility player. Starts each play usually near QB / King.
Offensive Line = Pawns. Great big giant pawns, but they don't move forward much, not fast at all, and fall over often.
Receivers = Weaponry: Castel, Knight, Bishop. There are names like "Slot," "Wide-out," "Split End," and Tight Ends, but they usually run really fast and can jump high and catch the ball well.

@@glennmcdonald4084 actually fullbacks have a big use. They arent really running backs as they dont get the ball much but more they block for the running back. They would usually replace a slot receiver because when you are running the ball there isnt a need for a slot receiver. They are in front of the running back so if the offensive line fails to guard properly. you have back up.

Some folks may need to understand Fullbacks and Tight ends. Cross breed positions really. Fullbacks are a mixture of a running back and offensive line, they will line up similar to a running back but will be behind the front line and will aslo generally be responsible for lead blocking. Same with tight ends, this is a mixture of Wide receiver and offensive line, they line up similar to a receiver, outside of the front line, but will generally be responsible for pass protection. If you can find guys at these positions that have the ability to run and catch as well you have some aces on offense.

This video is very simplistic in the positions and descriptions Running back is a general description. The specific position names are halfback and fullback. The halfback is the primary running back and is the one described here. The fullback is usually somewhere in front of the halfback and is used mainly for blocking, but will on occasion, get the ball to run with it. There's no mention of tight ends here. I guess that's too complicated to talk about in this video as it is a hybrid position of blocker/receiver.

In european footbal we have substitutions; it allows the coach to make maximum 3 subs in regular 90min games and 1 additional more if extratime.
So what's happening?? Does American footbal have subs? There are 2 or 3 QB in every team?? Thanks, and sorry for my very bad english!

You totally missed explaining the tight end position, which is often confusing to people with no knowledge of football because tight ends line up with the offensive line but are eligible receivers.

This is a great video! You should add to it and include special teams like place kickers and place holders, etc.

This is cool. So is a tight end a slot receiver? Hadn’t heard that term before. Great video, probably simple to some, but I never understood the defensive positions. Hope there is another video on types of lineups for pass play or run play.

The offense throws passes, catches passes, runs the ball, gets touchdowns, and blocks defenders. The defense covers receivers and stops the ball carrier
