    Thanks for sharing my speedo died years ago thought I was going to need a new cluster you could use solder wick and flux to remove those components flux helps the solder to flow better I would also recommend the Rubycon capacitor there the best for reliability

    Thanks my dear friend I had more than 20 years without speedometer and now is working thanks a lot

    Thanks for posting. My 1992 just started having the same issue. I thought it was a trans issue or connector to the 700R4 but this looks more like this is problem.

    Glad it worked out. I have the same tach board from same guy, but other fish to fry for my convertible 91 RS like speedo now off as I have C5 wheels, plus want to swap to 145mph cluster but need to get it's odometer to match current 278k miles of car. And install white face kit. Phew, get all that? IDK where to send it out...thanks for the vid.

    The odometer on my 92 was not working but speedo was. I took the cluster out to look into the odometer issue cause it’s a pretty low mileage car. The motor that drives the odometer gears seemed to be locked up. I freed it up and put it all back together. I expected that when I went back in with the cluster I would now be without an odometer or a speedometer and I was exactly right haha. Now when driving I hear a whine coming from behind the speedo. If this fix is what the speedo needs, I wonder if that would get the odo working as well. I figure I ought to send my cluster off and have it refurbished but I’m stubborn about fixing my own stuff.

    How does the black headlight switch come out. Twist off or pull off

      @eddiesspeedgarage  Před 10 měsíci

      You pull it but there’s a button that has to be pressed from the bottom simultaneously.

    Thanks for the video! I need to do the same thing to my 91 RS can you put a link up where you got the capacitor and the resistor please. I'm in Michigan too Downriver area nice car 💯

      Hi I am in BC Canada and my ‘91 RS has this exact problem. Would the parts be identical for vehicle made in Canada?

    Thanks for this video.... think it may solve the issue on my 90. When you noticed the Speedo wasn't reading, did your gas gauge also read incorrect/did the left half of the gauges seem dead (not just speedo)? That's the issue I'm having.... dead speedo, no odometer count, gas gauge way off (reading just over 1/4 tank when full, but will periodically drop as it should over driving time), oil pressure pegged high.

      @eddiesspeedgarage  Před rokem

      The fuel gauge is likely the sending unit in the tank. The speedo went out solo

    Is there a link where I could get a schematic for cluster boards?
    I have a 96 Firebird with a speedometer issue and need to narrow down the problem capacitors or resistors?
    How to you identify a bad capacitor or resistor?
    How do you know what resistor to order?
    Thanks

      I did a lot of research on the internet and CZcams

      Hey Eddie
      If I text or email some pics of the cluster from my 96 Firebird can you help me identify the components so I order the correct ones?
      Thanks

    Ed, can you describe the tach issue that folks typically experience prior to swapping the circuit board? I've got a customer car that has a zeroed out tach when powered down. When I crank the car, the tach flutters then pegs full open

    • @eddiesspeedgarage
      @eddiesspeedgarage  Před 2 lety

      That’s sounds about right. Some just read super high and others just drop dead. Either way the chip is the fix.

    Not sure if it's an outdated part number but the link to the capacitor does not fit in

    What size socket is to take out the screws that hold the cluster together

    Hey Ed, just got my bezel taken apart. Video was a big help. That cluster is a bitch getting out! Should be real fun getting back in. Question though, you installed a new board for your tachometer, where the hell did you find that?? Tried searching for the speedometer with all the numbers on in & zip. Just curious my friend. Thanks

    My headlight stick isn't locking back into place... Guess I broke it when getting it out.

      Sorry that sucks. Is the shaft broken or the actual mechanism?

      Same issue. Just ordered a new headlight switch, and new switch nut, for under 30 bucks on eBay.
