  • Hi Sunshines!
    Welcome back to the M.A.D.CURLS Channel! In today's video I am answering the question "Does Curlsmith's New Bond Curl compare to Olaplex No. 3 or Aphogee?". In this video I go into detail about each product, their similarities and differences. I also discuss the difference between protein treatments and hair bond treatments. I have never before used a hair bond treatment and I give you my first impressions on the Curlsmith Hair Bond and the Olaplex No.3.

    This was a comprehensive and somewhat fair review compared to all the other olaplex vs curlsmith videos out there but I still the overall comparison is a bit of a reach. The actual description for the bond salve on Ulta says that "Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve is an intense pre-shampoo treatment, rich in proteins that targets hair bonds to strengthen and repair from the inside out.". From my understanding, while Olaplex may have some protein it's not nearly enough to be considered a protein treatment + it's active ingredient literally relinks bonds of hairs vs restoring protein to hair. I think this is why it's recommended to use the Curlsmith bond salve less for low porosity hair whereas you can use Olaplex No. 3 once a week depending on the overall damage of your hair. (As opposed to level of damage+ porosity)
    If anything I think the Curlsmith product would be an awesome replacement for Aphogee since it's provides intense protein/moisture and you don't have to deal with hard hair lmao. I'm also considering using it once a month in conjunction with Olaplex since No. 3 is not meant to replace protein/moisture treatments and the Curlsmith product seems to do a bit both. All in all I think comparing the Bond Salve to Olaplex actually cheapens how effective and useful this product is. It seems like it does it's own thing very well and would be a great addition to my hair care routine lol!

    I’ve never used AlphoGee treatment but I have used both the Curlsmith Bond Curl Salve and the Olaplex No. 3. Curlsmith hit it out of the water for me. It was absolutely amazing. I would recommend. My hair was soft, the curls were popping and have never felt better. I would use once a month. Kisses to Lori Anne. ❤️❤️

    Thanks for the comprehensive review! I would like to see more data on the CurlSmith product to see if it’s been tested and proven effective. For now, I’ll stick with Olaplex 3 due to its proprietary ingredient and the data Olaplex has provided on the science behind the product. It’s great to have options for those who are more cost conscious and prefer more natural ingredients, though.

      I was thinking exactly the same. To me is kind of gimmicky that they are saying that is a bond builder when is not that simple to enter the hair to that level and on top of that repair it like that. I've researched the ingredients and I haven't read nothing that indicates that any of those ingredients is able to do so. It doesn't even have a protein ingredient per se, Chia seed is what they said is the protein and even then they specify that it works on the hair shaft not on the bonds. It has really good ingredients but it seems to be just a good deep conditioner, that's all.

I don't know why they advertise it works on sulfide bonds which is what olaplex targets. I use they both to compliment each other on separate wash days for a few weeks now. My hair has been so much better for it.

    Olaplex is my favorite hair treatment! Helps with breakage without the protein. Even though the curlsmith curl bond is a bond treatment I don't think it should be compared to Olaplex. Olaplex n°3 is protein free and Curlsmith curl bond is a heavy protein treatment. Both are great products but not comparable..not one bit.

According to the product listing, the definition of that ingredient is: "a unique liso-peptide protein designed to have a repairing action on the hair shaft." Yeah this two treatment are comparable, but they are two completely different systems, for one they don’t even work on the same bonds. So the fact that curlsmith is a brand targeted to “natural hair” shouldn’t, steer more towards them because the two products work on different bonds and the two bonds serve two different purposes within the hair strand itself. So if you need it it would be a good idea to use both. Or to pick one depending on what one you need the most, but chances are that you do need both just from even everyday wear n tear. But picking one based on the brand isn’t going to do your hair any good. Especially when you take into account that they both two really clean brands, and the fact that other than the additional fruit extracts the ingredients list for curlsmith isn’t anymore “natural” than olaplex.

    First off I want to say I love, love, love the chart. Like that was like singing me a love song. lol Next I have tried the Olaplex treatment and specifically what they don't tell you is if you want the maximum efficiency; it should be paired with the No 0. I think they need to make that extremely clear but "marketing". Secondly I don't think Olaplex is a great way to spend money if you have longer hair. Meaning hair past your shoulders (I would even go as far as to say neck length) and the reason being is because you will end up using so much of the product that it makes entirely no sense cost wise to get one solid use out of. I guessing if I could make it make sense cost wise I would definitely try it again but for me it was a no. Now I never use the Curlsmith version of the bonding treatment however after seeing this video you definitely have sold me 100%. Love the short hair and really appreciate the video.

      @@jayterra2060 Hey thanks for asking. I love it. I think it's a more cost effective version than olaplex so it gets my vote for that. If you can get it at a T.J. Maxx or Marshall's that would be a better bet or when they have a sale.

    Curlsmith is listing the type of bonds within the structure of the hair. All are targeting the exact same bonds. The description given by curlsmith in detain applies in Olaplex and Aphogee.
    The only difference is the ingredient with more R&D within Olaplex due to the invesment of Loreal (parent company). Olaplex has nano technology made of more synthetic fibers.
    To sum they all have the same pupose restructure and strengthen the cortex and outside layer of the hair shaft.
    All bonds listed are a quick summary of the structure of the hair (cosmetology course)... It's interesting to see that benchmark and how each brand wants to differentiate themselve with the marketing jargon. Different ingredient, same action, same overall result.

Nothing about it on HS own website. It seems to be a treatment like these but its weird its no where online. I want to try it but it maybe a discontinue product the beauty supply store have on the shelf for a decade.

    On the ulta website curlsmith describes there product as a protein rich pre shampoo treatment. I am interested in trying the curlsmith treatment as a protein treatment but there has not been any research that shows that this product can work on a molecular level like olaplex to actually repair bonds. They are not comparable to me and the ingredients in curlsmith are not proven to help with bonding.

    • @RDaniels28
      @RDaniels28 Před 2 lety

      Because it repairs the bonds immediately that's why you only do it every few weeks. Those types of treatments are wonderful. They really work and for some if you do it too much it will make the hair too strong and it will be rough.

  • @amberwilson3949
    @amberwilson3949 Před 3 lety +7

    The Olaplex and Curlsmith debate is so unfair . The Olaplex #3 is meant to be paired with the #0 and you won’t get the full value out of the repair unless you really make the investment to use it right. So the #3 being compared without a key component is a little disappointing to see on youtube because I really do swear by Olaplex .

    Goood videoo, I also used olaplex and aphogee for years now. But when using olaplex nr.3 you must use nr. 0 first. They work together.. without nr.0 you dont get the full benefit from it. Just wanne to inform you about it.

    I know they’re preshampoo but wouldn’t they work better without product buildup and oils? I used olaplex 3 once and my hair was definitely Curlier after. I didn’t think it was true but my hair is back to being less curly a month later.

    • @Aphrodite01
      @Aphrodite01 Před 2 lety

      I’ve had best results with using a clarifying shampoo prior to using olaplex 3. I leave it in all day & next day I use a hydrating shampoo & deep conditioner. If you have product buildup or use hair oil, leave in, mousse, gel, etc I would suggest shampoo prior to reap the benefits of olaplex.

      Also bonds can break from regular things like brushing hair it’s not just about coloring/bleaching/hot tools. So it’s important to maintain the bonds with olaplex along with a balance of moisture and protein to have healthy hair.

    Honestly your curls look a lot better with the Olaplex, the natural benefits and larger bottle with Curl Smith is definitely a attention getter. For me my hair is took thick and long now that Olaplex I would need two bottles and double the money, this is how Curl Smith can win with more customers and I’m sure it’s still a good product but I’ve seen a few reviews and I still feel that Olaplex is winning with their tiny little bottle
