I knew I would have to do the same Stepless challenge with MGS2 at some point, and it only makes sense to do MGS3 one as well. I personally think this challenge was a bit more interesting with MGS1, but there are still some cool details in this game that this challenge brings to light, so I am glad I did it.

I don't think Somersaults breaks the rules, they're not a step after all. If you saw someone somesaulting down the street, you wouldn't say they're walking

the problem with that is that you have to actually be moving to do a roll or somersault, if you press the button while standing still you just crouch
Yeah that was my hang up with the somersaults. You can do it quickly so that you're not actually physically taking the first step, but it was still annoying. That crouching somersault was a bit better but not perfect

I love how instead of just shimmying across the rail in the tanker holds you used an obscure and hilarious glitch that I've never ever seen before. Got a good laugh out of me!

Well, there was a new speed running strat discovered which entirely skips the ladder, but I don't know if "T-posing into the sky" really sits right with the challenge.

Another amazing video i love how dedicated and detailed they are. i would say that the summersault is a grey area since, yes it is puting up your feet and down on another position, but the movement comes from the hands. If you had a failed landing you wouldnt even use the legs so id say its a fully valid run. i am excited to see your next challenges in the future

I feel like in the tanker holds, to avoid using the glitch, you could also get Snake's grip strength to level 2 and shimmy across to the other side and avoid using the ladders with that also.

The somersaults are valid in my opinion, that was wicked as hell!
I appreciate how seriously you take these challenges, I've seen some youtubers propose challenges like this and blatantly break the rules because doing it properly would have taken hours, but isn't that the whole point of a challenge..
This and Spyro were HUGE childhood games for me, I'm loving the videos.

Personally, I don't count climbing ladders as taking steps. To me, steps imply horizontal movement, not vertical. Vertical movement is climbing. I don't think I consider the standing somersault taking a step either, but at a certain point, the challenge becomes much easier if you start to allow somersaults, even though technically I don't consider them steps. You could theoretically make it through a lot of "un-crawlable" situations using the somersault.

if you have more grip strength you can actually crawl alongside that ledge with the ladder to reach another door
you can do it with 1lvl grip but you need full health

I found it ha ha. I imagine it was already known, but it didn't really have a specific practical use until this challenge idea 😁
It's more of an exploit than a glitch. Ammo spawning in a specific point of the arena once you're below 20 rockets and not looking at that point is an intended mechanic, but basically means you get infinite rockets if you stand on that spot in first person since you can meet all the criteria for it to spawn while also being directly on top of it.
Great run! hopefully all the button mashing practice ends up improving your technique

Just hearing the music to this game is taking me back to 2001 when I got a PS2 and got Devil May Cry, Silent Hill 2 and this game.
That was a great year, and I had so many great memories of the time that I first played this game at the end of 2001, November to be exact.
God I miss playing this game and I love it so much, I like it better than Snake Eater, sorry everyone, I just had a great time playing this game and being pulled in by it’s story.
Just like Metal Gear Solid 1.
The lead up to this game coming out, and then finally getting released, was insane but super enjoyable. I was among the countless that bought "Zone of the Enders" simply because it came with the demo of MGS2 up through the Olga boss fight...I'd play that shit over and over even though the dialogue was still in Japanese with English subtitles (almost added to it, in a bizarre way lol). And then yeah, when it finally came out, plowing ahead cos I couldn't wait to see what was gonna happen next--I think I was one of the few who didn't mind the big Snake/Raiden reveal; I kind of agreed with Kojima that he'd taken 'Snake the Super Soldier' as far as he could go at that moment and so we needed to see Snake from someone else's perspective to add a new dimension to it, also the eventual reveal of Raiden's true background was pretty crazy.
This was so fun too watch please do 3 n 4 but maybe not 5 as I think that would take ages crawling around haha
I never even got passed the tutorial on 5, so I don't even know how possible it is ha ha
How you have any tolerance or sanity left after doing these challenges is beyond me. Well done, dude.
I 100% think this counts personally. As long as you aren't taking a step I think that should count. The animation cancel is pretty cheeky and I like it
Forgot to comment the first time I watched! If I remember right, you can hold down X to land prone out of your cartwheel, so I believe it *would* have been possible to flip > prone > stand > repeat as a form of stepless movement. I think the standing animation from the crouch would have been useful as a buffer to avoid taking a step while you input the flip. Might come in handy if we ever see Part 3 ;)
As someone who's played this game numerous times through normally, this was.. definitely an interesting watch. Tanker glitch was gold. I hope Otacon will have learned a lesson from his unfortunate little sister and protected his shins in the future!
If a metal gear 3 without taking steps ever comes out, I know for a fact the battle against The End will take hours to get it done 🤣🤣🤣

The End wouldn’t actually be that bad. He could either get the early kill or use the clock easter egg. It would be much easier against the Ocelots
