- I found some red filter glasses that blocks out ALL other color frequencies - letting me paint in monochrome. It turned out to be an amazing tool to learn to paint light and created some crazy results when painting my miniatures.

The skeletons looks like something from bald mountain
have you thought of using the glasses when knowing which colour is which
If people wanna see the rules in action, watch all of Wyloch's battle reports, all he plays is Grimdark Future, by them. And you didn't mention that the basic rules are 100% free, they only charge a few bucks for extended, more complex ones, and those are by no means necessary!
i really like the skellie
Dude the wraith looks fucking sick!!!
This man really just painted skeletor and called him ugly... *Cries in grayskull*
I laughed hard! It looks so much like the 80' skeletor action figure with the rubber head.
JOKE'S ON YOU! I'M INTO THAT SHIT!
The production director for He-Man was colorblind. Hal Sutherland. That's why the show is in such wacky colors, especially lots of pink.
I thought it was actually very cool looking and he said it’s ugly I was offended
@@emmettraymond8058 He also did an episode with the animated Star Trek that crossed over with Larry Niven’s Ringworld universe. The K’zinti were all in pinks and purples.
Great video Emil! Just for those who wonder just how the hell I do it, I dont see in monochrome like this, it's just that very dark or very bright red and green look grey/brown and hard to tell apart :)
if you were to put on the red glasses, could you still see?
@@alchemispark7751 the universe would implode
@@MidwinterMinis can we make it implode?
Now you try the glasses
i have the same king of color blind as well as blue pruple
I like how the duchess has caution tape hanging from her belt! ghostal was really good, but obviously the skeleton was the best :-)
Beware the poon of doom!
I thought she looked like a cell shaded wicked witch of the West style mini
Honestly the skeleton wouldn’t look that bad under a blue light/black light! Probably look more neon punk than space sci-fi though.
Of course a Goobertowny would say that.
The Skeleton reminded me of a set of dice i used to have
Squid's Expectations: A grey smooth shaded skeleton.
Reality: A dope ass looking disco-funk skeleton.
Squid: This looks terrible.
Me: Gasp.
its skeletor
i mean- it looks pretty cool >->
They all looked awesome in my eyes, It's fantasy colours. Fantasy colours that worked good together.
Le gasp
in my opinion he was right
He basically painted alternate color palettes for fighting game characters when both players picked the same person
that skeleton reminds me of old 80's everything-is-neon comics/movies
First thing I thought too! I was genuinely perplexed when he didn't like the Skeleton lol
@@GazzManX2
maybe we need to send him some 80's american comics so he can too enjoy the artwork?
@@GazzManX2 right I thought it looked sweet
Skeletor
I really like that skeleton tbh, it kind of reminds me of old pulp horror book covers/film posters
TRU
It reminds me of the predators heat vision
Yes! I was hoping I wasn't the only one who thought it was really cool!
I liked it too
I liked the skeleton to and I honestly had to catch myself when he said it was ugly 😂
Man those came out great, that ghost became so much more menancing with a spectral green axe
Did anyone notice that he put a paintbrush in his mouth. The real artists trick of perfect brush point 😂👌
I did! I wonder how much paint he’s ingested over the years
@@Slidapenguin I was thinking the same thing
An intelligent artist would use a damp sponge , fold it in, pull it out. Same result, or your fingers. Look up “Fossy Jaw”. Phosphorus poisoning that disintegrated the jawbones of women who did this in a factory using luminous paint.
@@zilgill9589 that's cause they were using literally radio active material to add a glow, paint like this in such small amounts shouldn't be an issue. But for sanitary reasons, I agree, probably don't coat your pieces in slobber.
@@zilgill9589 phossy jaw*
That basic skeleton had a 90s paperback book cover vibe to it, like something you would see on a Goosebumps or something. I thought it was kind of cool actually
You can paint better with colorblindness than I can without it lol
Pretty sure we could put a full blindfold on him and he’d still out paint me!
lets be honest, he could have no hands and still paint better than us
Next challenge: no hands allowed, he gotta paint with the brush in his mouth xD
@@H2SO4pyro qnd the color blind glasses
@@H2SO4pyro bruh he already did exactly that in another video
the "wood" on the ghostal is actually really fitting looks like old dead dried out wood
Bruh who you telling I was actually ducking with his whole color scheme it really blended well kinda like a coastal reaper peep the little orange on the axe looks like rust 🤗
@@mindcraftelover what did you just say?
That plague-mucus axe wielding ghost is dope. It looks even better than the intended look
looks like we got wicked witch, starynight skelly and bad acid trip ghost
The Duchess looks sick. With all the black it looks like she's been ripped out of a comic book.
the ghost definitely looks wayyyyyy cooler that way, i love the necromancy feel from to green bog like color with the bright almost mana like blue!
I would commission an army of skeletons painted like that! An 80s neon skeleton legion would be ace!!
You should def throw out a challenge to miniac, goobertown ect, see what results everyone gets
The green to the orange/red on The Duchess looked really striking and very effective!
It's like they're from an 80's Neon set. Really cool!
The first model reminds me of how old games used to just change enemy colors for a new type of enemy and I love it.
Can’t believe he got glasses that make him see what people saw normally back in the 50s and 20s
I'm blue blind. Other gamers usually ask me, why I never try to build my own colour scheme, just follow prebuild schemes. This is the answer....
Ok, but there are other colors to use as well. Being colorblind to blue just means you can use other colors to paint
@@hypo7351 So all colour blindness is a spectrum, which actually have 2 colour (blue blind not see anything on the blue-yellow spectrum) and modify the rest. Just for example, the skeleton except the scythe handle looks almost same to me, with and without the glass. And when he take off the glass say had purple and other shade, which I not see properly. If you really interest, google blue blind colour spectrum you will be surprised.
I'm red - blind , so can and have confused red and black (submitting essays in red type) red to me is not brilliant it's a very dark colour. My blues however are unaffected so blue is the most vibrant colour to me, however I fail to distinguish it from purple 100% of the time because I would not being sensitive to reflected red light all purples look like blue to me.
I imagine for blue-blind folks does yellow turn to white?
You can ask Guy from Midwinter minis ;)
He probably doesn’t see in monochrome xD, that’s incredibly rare. Probably is colorblind to red/green like me.
@@Vuncibaby As far as I know, he has deuteranopia (Red-Green).I just thought about him the second I saw the title and commented :)
@@Vuncibaby Worked with a color blind guy that only saw in greyscale. No color at all.
@@ningaubleotse171 I actually didn't realize how common that was. 1 in 30,000 people see in just greyscale, which is called Achromatopsia.
Squidmar - The one where Cyclops learns how to paint minis.
4:20 did he just use his mouth to clean his brush 💀
Fun fact saliva is actually great for keeping your brush pointy, and once you’ve swished it around in water you don’t really taste the paint 🤷♀️
i thought i was the only one cus i didn't see anyone notice it int the comments
perfect time stamp too
Ellie Dahlia ew
So many toxins I’m not even going to start. You’ll find out eventually.
i like how dynamic these colors are, it adds action to the figurine, it places them in a scene.
Damn. My old man would have loved this video, 6+ years painting while colorblind.
The Skeleton looks like he just got back from a rave 🤣
Skelator
Yesssssss
I like the first skeleton, it almost has a OSL type of technique with the highlight.
The way the red robe is shaded with green makes it look like one of those soft textiles that have a slight color shift effect to it. Looks super cool.
I love that in true artist fashion he hates everything he created in this video even though they’re all amazing pieces like that skeleton is a neon skeleton and the ghost thing is soooo cool yo
There's something really 80s about that skeleton. It honestlu looks cool. it has that old school drawing style OSL to it, with the blues being shadows and then the lights.
I like it.
Best unintentional JoJo reference, 2020. All I see are three stands active while the conflict gets so intense the very nature of color itself becomes ambiguous and fluid.
Fax
Okay but that last one is honestly stunning. I love everything about her!
Love that the Dutches, in one hour... looks 1000x better than I could do in 2 weeks of painting
I have red-green colorblindness - this seems like a fun challenge for you, lol! This also makes me happy I’m not completely colorblind.
Same here.
I love how the second one turned out! What a fun experiment to allow yourself to use colours you wouldn't think of applying.
I honestly really like the way these turned out! They remind me of something you'd see at a blacklight mini golf place. A whole army in that style would be really cool
I know that you weren't happy with all the results of the miniatures, but to me they all looked great, I really enjoyed all the colors that you achieved on the miniatures.
I loved the ghost holding a axe I think the colours are really complementary 😁
That second one-ghostly guy-looked awesome! I might do an army in those colors! Do you ever sell the ones you make in these videos? 'cause I'd love to buy that one! Wow!
That first skeleton looks like a felt blacklight poster, rad!
Even the white wood on the ghost works really well, as someone who grew up in the desert it just looks very old and sunbleached
INSANE RESULT "this was ok, I guess"
If you wanna try a cheaper, less psychedelic and more useful version of this challenge, paint a mini with only black and white. This helps a lot with contrast.
the ghost looks phantasmic like a ghost that came from a different realm where magic is super common, I hope you do another video like this in the future as it makes you put colours together that you wouldn't normally think that would fit well with each other.
The skeleton looks like it could be on the cover of a 90s Goosebumps book
The vampire looks like the darkest dungeon art style. :D Fantastic work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hahahahaha, great video! I love the psychedelic skeleton the most
12:00 is by far the sickest mini I've ever seen, I love it
I like them all, interesting mix of colour, definitely like the skeleton
My dude, I'd love to see you paint a miniature with 'beer goggle glasses' on!
Do another video where you touch them up without any googles but sticking to the base colors you did in this video.
I really like the ghost. It looks to me like late in an oldschool RPG when you got harder enemies that were pallet swaps of earlier enemies.
The woman one gives me old school (80s) comic book coloring. I actually enjoy it quite a bit. But what a fun video all around.
The skeleton looked like it was being seen through infrared goggles.
Emil "I'm going to completely eliminate my ability to see actual colours"

. . . proceeds after a warm-up mini to knock out two figures at a ridiculously high standard.
Yeah. Both look really good and the colours work.
I really like how they all turned out. The skeleton had a really cool, psychedelic feel, and the Dutchess looked amazing. What an awesome challenge.
I thought the beginning of the Duchess section was fascinating, watching you play around (with I guess what you thought were tones?) expertly, while we could see behind the curtain and witness this strange colour scheme somehow still come together!
Thank you for this, I think it helps in a way I didn't know I need to see
i kinda like the fact that he didn't paint what he wanted. they looked pretty good even though he said they're bad.
Nice vod, also recevied your brushes yesterday, not used them yet but they look really nice and the packaging looks awesome!
Sweet GLHF :D
God knows when mine will show up. Hopefully soon :)
My mom's actually monochromatic colourblind - She used to do art when she was younger, and still makes quilts all the time.
All we have to do is help her pick out some fabric, and she's good to go. Can't imagine the struggle, though.
I love how he greyed out the colours for us. It makes us surprised just as much as him when he takes the glasses off =)
"I think this is purple" 5 seconds later
"Okay they all look purple idk what I'm doing"🤣🤣🤣
I just want to add this. At the beginning you say "I will see no other colors only hues." Depending on how the glasses work you would only see a single hue (red) and some different values and saturation of that particular hue.
he clarified with an astric later that he was talking about light levels
Received my brushes yesterday, fantastic set. Really grateful to have such a fine addition to my collection of hobby tools. Thanks Emil!
I like how all of the colors came out especially the second one👍
Squidmar: Paints with glasses that make everything red
Also Squidmar: “eVerYtHinG jUsT LoOks pUrple!”
My brain is a wonder
When you hit random colors in character creation.
I loved the contrast between the diferent colors!
I kind of like the black coming through and dominating the last one. Sort of has this interesting dark aesthetic =)
9:31 did this man just lick his brush??? I'm so confused lol
I think he does this multiple times, actually. I'm guessing it's to smooth the brush so that he can apply the paint more precisely.
Artist often do this, lol. It's to flatten the hairs of the brush and get a really sharp tip.
so is no one gonna talk about how he rinsed his paintbrush off then just stuck it in his mouth
This was absolutely amazing. Would love to see more of this, maybe a series of seeing you train your colourblind painting abilities
I have a pair of those for my migraines AND I am a miniature painter and I have never considered doing this. I can usually see the highlights on my own but not the saturation it needs so I popped my on and you're so right BOOM! It's like throwing a spotlight on that one section that you're missing that could use another pop of something. Thank you so much Emil, this is actually helping as I learn to do NMM well to hit those sweet sweet highlights.
"Everything looks purple"
When you first play at Saints Row 3.
Joke aside, I really like the results
"These colours look really dark!" That's because they emit no red light, not because they are dark!
I don't want to be THAT guy, but they do not "emit" red light. They "reflect" or "absorb" red light.
@@olafunti9299 what's the magic word I need to say to get you to explain that green isn't green, or how a moniter is only 3 colors?
@@AltName7 it's "Supercalifragelistic expialidocious"
@@olafunti9299 Reflection is the process of absorbtion and re-emission of energy bro! we're both right
In fact, what happens is the red light has an energy that excites the electrons of the molecule/element to an unstable/unallowed energy state, so the energy is released as radiation that is of the same frequeny as the light that was initially absorbed :)
that last one has a real comic book kinda feel to it, and its honestly kinda cool.
This is so great it give such a unique look at at highlight placement and the use of light intensity
9:34 did he just...?
only reason I read the comments was to see if anyone else saw that. lmao, like wat??
Wanna really experience some trippy painting?
Paint with anaglyphic glasses on (red and cyan lenses).
I did that once, and I got a migraine from hell.
I was always a fan of Disney's Fantasia growing up, in particular the Night on Bald Mountain section. In it, you see spirits dancing around in all different colors... I think Emil's nighthaunt executioner could fit right in that movie. You could do an entire nighthaunt army like that, all in psychedelic colors.
I actually really liked the nighthaunt and the Duchess. The color combinations and the focus on dramatic highlights and shadows reminded me of the art I grew up with in old video game instruction manuals, comic books, and D&D books.
Well done!
4:21 ok guys im new here...
its normal to put that in your mouth?!?
first time seeing that
Some people do that to make the paintbrush “sharp” again... no it’s not very good for you due to materials that can be in paint and such but 🤷♀️
Plot twist:
he is actually color blind and the glasses reverse the effect making him see the real colors and he is just trolling us
This experiment was ridiculous in two ways. Ridiculously entertaining because the models still turned out awesome looking, and ridiculously brain bending with how colors interact when you get rid of certain spectrums. Great work and glad you had fun
They look _beautiful._
The painting like Guy from Mindwinter challenge.
That isn’t how colour blindness works.
Being fully colorblind, i have always just read the bottle.
I love the outside of the normal box idea for this vid! Amazing to see how things are volumetrically easier to pick out in a single colour. Great insight, Great vid ❤
Your artistic talents are actually insane. Plus this was an awesome idea might have to give it a try some day.
This is just a 20 minute jab at midwinter minis :((
Haha, i wish :) you should watch the vid :D
the second on looks amazing with wacky blues and greens
I would just like to say one thing. I am SO glad that you put when the sponsorship session would end. I have only seen probably one other channel that has done that, and it is so annoying to skip ten seconds at a time and miss some stuff. Thank you! It really means a lot to me.
That second model colour scheme was awesome. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
That looks awesome - big fan of any techniques that push someone out of their comfort zone!!
This was a neat idea! I kind of like how some of them turned out, especially the green to red on the skirt of the last model.
Your content is so original and enjoyable. Every week you come up with another fresh idea. I wish you and your family all the best.
