No doubt. Most modern recordings are glued using an underlying synth of sorts. This would be a fun way to use the guitar for this effect without having to roll off the attack.
@@guitarguitaruk Agreed!! As a Fripp fan this nifty little things gives me the exact vibe I hoped from it. One of the best $100 Ive ever spent. Its a must have if youre an amiant musician for sure
Thanks for the demo! I just picked one up to help me keep playing while recovering from shoulder surgery. I think it will work. And your outro tune was fantastically smooth and sweet!
Great video, I got one about 20 years ago, when it came with the cassette with the tutorials. I still love it, even if for just banging out a Big Country tune from time to time.
Love my Ebow. Nice take on it. Always trying to learn knew tricks with it. Also, I see you're a Morley guy as well... Yes! And sounds incredible. Who could ask for anything more!
To sound like a Didgeridoo you can with your left hand take the vibrato bar and bring the bar down far enough so the 6th string is an octave or more lower. Take your right hand with the Ebow and put it over the 6th string near the neck pickup. With the help of a wah wah you should get the Didgeridoo sound. Echo & reverb helps too. For taste a slight overdrive too. Ever so gently slide the Ebow over the pickup while lifting & lowering the vibrato bar a few cents and the wah almost all heel to mid sweep motion. Nothing to it. Thanks * mute the 1st thru 5th strings so no extra noise is heard.
Plug guitar in and set it clean as poss, then put some music on your phone and place it on top of the pickup thats on and hear the sound through the amp. Nowt ti do with E-boy but it got me thinking thanks.
Cool vide and thanks for inspiring as always! Do you ever use the Ebow on acoustic guitars? Latley I've been trying out a more acoustic setup at Martin Baltser and wonder if you have any ideas for that?
I just received a guitar that I purchased in a goodwill auction and one of these was I'm the case. I had no idea what it was, but I'm happy to find out that they go for around $75 in used condition.
I just got one after seeing this video and it takes like 10 seconds to have the string to start to ring no matter where I put it. Anyway, the only place where the sound ever sounds is being over the 24th fret. You can just do chords sweeping and I'm like, what the hell is wrong with mine?
i cant play the e above e below the the others i can, but not that easy like ypu. i need to put it on the strings and after seconds i hardly hear the sound. could it be the batterie maybe. i mean i never changed it. or could is it broke?
Sometimes you just have to try different parts of the pickup or strings. Changing the batteries can help wonders too. Maybe try different amp settings and/or pedals too to bring out. Hope it sorts itself out :)
@@guitarguitaruk thank you very much for responding. P. S. I apologize for not commenting on how cool your video was. My daughter wants me to make some scary music for her college film project and I think this will work instead of buying an actual bow. Hopefully the E or A string can play some low sustained sounds. Thanks again. Nice music you’ve created.
It's called "Arran needs to make an eBow demo chords". Just joking, it's literally just arpeggiated notes from E minor, G major, D Major then a nice bridging chord (forgotten the name) in D#/Eb. Let the eBow do the work :)
There is also some sampling done on that recording - where the ebow guitar was sampled into a synth and a melody was added to the mix alongside the ebow guitar line. Take a look at the video for "I Don't Know How I Don't Know Why" by The Church - you can see Peter playing the Ebow in that.
Interesting that there's no mention of this effect being used by numerous great guitarists including Brian May and Phil Keaggy. Personally I think I'd rather do the Steve Vai, Neal Schon thing and use a sustainiac switch built into the guitar.
If I got one I absolutely guarantee that it would get as much use as an ice cream or bread maker. A couple of weeks of it being the best thing in the world, then gathering dust .... I'd love to have one for a week though. :)
I'm not a guitar player and know nothing about gear and stuff, but if i understand correctly ebow basically just makes the sounds.. longer? Isn't it uncomfortable/awkward to play with that thing in your hand? Wouldn't some reverb pedals(?)give the same effects?
Arran: Here are 5 cool things you can do with an EBow. Me: Huh. That's pretty neat! Arran: Here's me twiddling with it over a backing track for the outro of this video. Me: OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH DDDAAAAYYAAAMMMMNNNNNNNN!!!! :O
#6: Tune your guitar super precisely with it.
Good idea!
An EBow and a Looper pedal are absolutely made for each other - think awesome ambient drones or massive harmonies...
It's absolutely addictive as well - especially when you start recording these and layering them! Oh my! :D
plus a reverb and chase bliss mood would be a match made in heaven
No doubt. Most modern recordings are glued using an underlying synth of sorts. This would be a fun way to use the guitar for this effect without having to roll off the attack.
I love how nice it sounds on leads, the harmonic effect is real sweet
Just ordered one today, as someone who plays a lot of noise/ambiant guitar I can't wait to experiment
So much fun!!!

I was just listening to "I Don't Know How I Don't Know Why" by the Church. The Ebow playing in that is great.
Ebow + bottleneck + delay is a very good match !

Stu Adamson - king of ebow amongst many other things
@@john84896 totally agree, Stuart was king of most things, hope he's in a nice place now RIP
That ending song gave me chills, holy hell!
I will seriously pay you for tabs / chords. I need this in my life
I ordered an e bow after seeing it used on another channel - but you're the first one I've seen showing the sweeping effect - very cool indeed! 🤘
Thanks very much, took a bit of getting the knack together but once you zone in on it it's bags of fun! :)
Thank you for this video. I just got an Ebow. I'm enjoying it so far.
You’re helping a lot! Thanks.
Love the harmonic mode. That just sounds so dang sweet!
I now know what was used during Nightwish concert on the song "while your lips are still red" live at Wembley, a beautiful sustained sound.
Mine has arrived today. Thanks for these awesome tips...!!!
Not a problem, hope you've accrued many eBow hours of play :)
Great demo, thank you very much
You got my 'like' and subscription with this one! Rad demo!
Great summary of what this is and how it can be used. Thanks man🤘
Glad it was helpful!

The start of the song at the end sounds a lot like Steven Wilson's "Drive Home". It's really lovely!
Love the fret markers.
Amazing never seen one before it has captured me 💜love your video
Thanks for this interesting run down. I’ve got one coming soon! 🎸🎶😊

You had me at sweep picking. Its sooooo hard
Super cool!
Cool recording tricks. Thanks
Thanks Michael. Should we maybe look at 5 more cool things to do with an eBow? :D
I just really want to hear more music like he did at the end of the video, that was pretty slick.
noted!
Outro was awesome
I have no idea how I ended up at this video, but you seem like a good teacher.
So even though I'm not learning, thanks :)
Thanks for stopping by dude!
That Atomic Orange is one of the coolest colours I’ve ever seen on a guitar. It’s Gizmotronic. 🎸
One of my favorite combos is an ebow, slide, and reverse delay. Maybe add some modulation for a lush psychedelic lead
nice video man,, end jam was some flavor
Hey Marshall, thanks for stopping by and saying so. Good to give the eBow some music to soar over. Addictive little tool so it is :)
The song at the end of the video blew me away! It didn't take me very long to order an Ebow after watching you play it. Fantastic work!
Thanks for stopping by my friend!
Great. Video. Thanks. For. Showing how. To use. It. And what it. Can do

I've found that I really like, is using the ebow with a slide.
It's got some monstrous twang. I'd like to see one used on a steel guitar or lapslide!

It’s Big Country in the palm of your hand!
1:56 Active pickups are a lot less dynamic than passive ones, so you'll likely be fine.
Sounds like Stuart Adamson! Think I finally need one of these.
Eric - get on it! An essential tool to have within arm's reach of your guitar :)
Hi, just a question... Can you used it on a classica electrical guitar? (a guitar with no pick up but just a hole to plug it in the amplifier)
eBow versus a built in sustainer pickup from Ferdinands?
The latter allows you to use a pick and doesn’t require as much new technique.
I just received a guitar that I purchased in a goodwill auction and one of these was I'm the case. I had no idea what it was, but I'm happy to find out that they go for around $75 in used condition.
Does it isolate one string at a time. Better with single coils or humbuckers?
They should call it a B.C. for 'Big Country' ! :)
What the music was at first time on video on background?
E bow is a right ear which became a vertical weasel that came down to make the telephone narrow and at the top (because of somebody answer the phone)
I get my e bow in a few days. It's going to be fun.
Yaaasss! Enjoy!!
wow
Where can I find that song at the end??
The sound at 3:35 is exactly what i'm looking for! Kinda like No-Man's album Flowermouth
Get yourself an eBow and a tremolo pedal and baby, you got a stew going!

Great job. 5:20 till the end is awesome. Any tabs?!
Curious of how it sounds without distortion
long sustained notes are totally fine, as for fast arpeggios - not that good, to me at least
Just heard it on an acoustic with a pick up and it sounds......... like distortion
This is CZcams. Good luck finding that out !!
Nice.. just one thing.. spiccato? probably you meant staccato 8 )
Question: Could this ebow be used to record in something like Logic pro?
100%! The signal from the ebow comes straight from the guitar, so any amp plug-in will work with the E-Bow
