    Hello again. I wanted to let you know I cooked my gelatin back down, poured again, and this time seemed so much better. Much clearer, not as much foam/bubbles. It's going to be more durable, I believe. The packs of gelatin measured out to 1 1/3 c for 200 g. Hope to get some printed beauties similar to your nature prints.

    I made my own as well-similar recipe but it used a little sugar in place of the preservative you have in your recipe. I've had it for like 3 yrs and still use it. Used a 9x13 in glass baking dish, but am getting ready to make a really large one with a cookie sheet

      Thank you so much Charlotte! I used my gelli plate last time two weeks ago, made lots of prints and it's still ok. Since I made it originally, I remelted it twice, first time because of a break, and second time because I used some sharp tools and I damaged the surface. Second time I reheated and melted I added that food preservative again, just in case. Each time I did this resetting thing, the plate became a little bit firmer, which was great.

    Oh, Dragana, im so disappointed. I followed all the instructions. My gelatin clumped right from the start. I used double boiler and all started melting. After stirring for 20 minutes (i didnt want to burn it) I strained remaining clumps and poured to pan. Using paper strips and towels for foam and bubbles. I still had bad cloud in corner. But the bottom looked wonderful. It was fun making it even though i had a sticky mess to clean up. I couldn't sleep so got up at 2 AM (it set for 8 hours) to play hahaha. I was so happy with the plate. Started my prints and on the 3rd print the gel peeled off with the paper leaving terrible divots in my plate. I flipped it and used the other side for a few prints but now have to cut and remold. What did i do wrong? I'll cook it longer today.
    Love your tutorials. Thanks much.

      Oh no, it happens sometimes I guess. Not all gelatins are the same. Perhaps yours needed to be soaked first and then slowly heated. I’d heat it up and reset it again. But I’d wait 24h before using it. It might look ok to use but 8h it’s really not enough. I’ve reset mine many times with the same ingredients and I still use it. Here’s the link to the second video with explanation on how to fix it.

    Hi, thanks so much for great video, I am going to make one!
    I found this: "BENZOIC ACID: Because Sodium Benzoate only converts to benzoic acid in acidic environments, it is not used for its anti-microbial action unless the pH is below about 3.6. Sodium Benzoate is also used as a corrosion inhibitor in automotive anti-freeze products."
    I have no idea about acidity, I was just wondering if this additive made a difference to how long your gelli plate lasted?

      Interesting information! The first gelli plate I’ve ever made was without it and it turned moldy very quickly. Had to throw away the whole lot. This one is remarkably still ok. I’ve used it again just the other day. I don’t know the science behind it all, but it worked keeping the mold away. If you think that ph needs to be lower you can substitute part of water with some vinegar and check with those ph paper strips. 😊

In India where I am they are quite expensive and I'm afraid they may not withstand our weather. Hence a few queries. How long does the entire process of making it take? Can one store a diy gel plate out of the refrigerator or does it need to be kept in the fridge. Can it be stored in a plastic container?

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi! It takes about half an hour to make and 24 hours to set. I keep mine in my room in the tray I set it in, uncovered, in a drawer, during colder months. I keep it in the fridge during summer. You can keep it in the plastic container, but open it from time to time to check for mold. Moisture tends to evaporate and in tightly closed containers, it can’t escape- hence mold. 😊❤️

I am just curious if it is still preserved, but also what are you using to store your gel plate in. I’m so glad I recently found your channel. Too.
    Finally, I was wondering what your thoughts may be about if I start out with purified water do you think it may help prevent it from turning moldy? Was just curious. Thanks again. 🙂👍🏻

It's shrank a bit and got firmer but no mold. Next time I melt it I will add a little bit of water, perhaps 1/2 a cup.
      I store it in the tray that I use to melt it, and I put some card stock over, to keep the dust away. My advice is to keep it away from direct sun or heat when not using. In the summer, fridge is a better option.

      I use wet wipes. You can also spray with water and wipe with soft tissue paper 😊

      @@Saacibo thanks for replying. I will definitely try your technique - I need a really big plate but they're so expensive. The benzoic acid is genius! It will last forever and never spoil - you don't even need to add new packets of preservative each time you re-melt it

    No le pones alcohol?

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před 8 měsíci

      I didn't put alcohol at all. The first time I put alcohol it turned moldy very quickly, so this time I only put water, glycerin, gelatin and food preservative E211😊
