    Last nights game was a clear indication for a few things. Firstly, there are players here who are simply not good enough especially when we have to play under pressure. Dubravka, Murphy, Longstaff, Wilson and Almiron simply need to move on for next season. Also, I don’t think Howe is the right man to take us to the next level. When so much is at stake, we should have fielded our best 11 from the start. Man U were there for the taking and we just didn’t capitalise on that. Such a shame.

    I know it has been mentioned, but ask Rugby officials how they do theirs as they make far more unbiased decisions, quicker. The referee gets to see all camera angles, not just the one the VAR want the ref to see!

    • @johnenglish929
      @johnenglish929 Před 16 dny +3

      It does seem to be better handled in rugby, but so is refereeing in general not least because if players argue, the ref simply walks ten yards forward and they take the kick from there ! But don’t kid your self that it’s quicker because it certainly isn’t and the time they take for endless replays from different angles, wouldn’t be acceptable in top level football. Rugby is a stop start game with stoppages for scrums, line outs etc. so taking a long time to arrive at a decision fits into the natural rhythm of the game. Football is different.

  • @martinheywood588
    @martinheywood588 Před 16 dny +3

    Spot on Paul. Goldbridge after looking at it again said it was a penalty as he was fouled before the tackle and VAR should have called it out. Wayne Rooney MU through and through said during the match said it was a clear penalty. I would not trust the people doing the review as a lot have done a poor job. If a ref or person makes a mistake they are taken out of a game as an official in other sports they are suspended or even demoted. I know that cricket umpires have been removed from international panels for errors in the past and have had to work their way back. May be we do the same in football they lose their UEFA creditation or ability to referee PL games as well as needing retraining. They then have to prove they have improved to get that back and it has to be over the rest of the season not just a couple of games. Maybe with this things will start to improve as being dropped for a game or two is not a strict enough sanction. This could be done as an interim measure but then have a separate VAR officials trained and take over from the refs long term totally independant from refs and linesman association bodies. This would prevent any Iam not going to critise another ref mentality which could be influencing some of these decisions. For me Eddie now has to lay down the law with underperforming players and be rutherless basically get them in one on one and basically say their future at the club is on the line if we dont get Europe. Several players have had more bad games than good and he needs to tell them this and drop them where we can. For me we will see what happens with Brentford and then I will form an opinion but its 50:50 for me whether Eddie can be ruthless enough. Players have to go in the summer as we need to get more in with a better mentality who have the desire in the big games

  • @paulkay8986
    @paulkay8986 Před 16 dny +3

    You make some very good points about big game mentality. In midfield, Bruno has it, but he's always having to run the show by himself. Longstaff is a passenger and is simply not good enough. Why bring off Murphy when he delivers crosses so well, and put on the clockwork mouse that is Miggy? So Eddie, let's have a real statement of intent in the summer and get rid of players that are simply not good enough...

  • @johnmitchinson1801
    @johnmitchinson1801 Před 16 dny +8

    The top managers are forever adapting and not sticking rigidly to things. The 4-3-3 worked very well last season but all the opposition has figured us out this season. Eddie is not learning at all especially on team selection which has been fairly bad all season. Reactionary again last night when he had a bench to institute a change at halftime oh no let’s just wait until we got behind again it’s been same story all season all subs made in first half of games by us was made due to injury’s only for injury’s we would never have seen miley tino and hall cause he doesn’t trust young players.

VAR has got its own pros and cons...if the penalty was given and we scored it would have changed the picture of the game and most probably the outcome but the point of fighting for a VAR decision to get us out of jail shouldnt be for what we should look and expect for from our team. we have a strong team who can beat anyone, we should be proud where we are considering the mountain we had to climb throughtout the entire season, more games and so many injuries! i wish for a strong display against brentford and win that in style!

    Paul, its regard VAR. I've said from the start, referees should not be involved in VAR decisions. You have a referee on the pitch to be advised by VAR whether or not he's made the correct on field decision. Ex pro footballers could be a smart idea. But something has to be done. It proves that the standard of VAR officials is not good enough!!!!

    There doesn’t seem to be a huge crop of elite managers out there anymore!

    The best way to solve the VAR issue is to just remove the on field official completely from the decision. Let a 3rd party, not a referee, decide the solution from a central office that is decided between a group of 3. Their decision is then what happens. The on field official is too often swayed by players and coaches.

    Maybe the answer is let VAR deal with offside and ball in and out and only used it if the referee isn't sure. Classic example of how that would work would be last night's foul on Gordon. If Gordon had appealled to the ref or a pen and the ref wasn't sure , then, only then do VAR get involved. The issue last night was that Gordon didn't appeal as he thought it was a stonewall and the VAR people were obviously otherwise engaged.

    For the VAR team, get refs who are supporters of each team(2) and have 2 neutral ones. It would take longer the decisions but it would be comprehensive. Get the stadiums fitted with more cameras that show multiple angles.

    Love Eddie but was now need a world class proven manager. It's not his fault, but he does not have the 'big game' experience. I know it is cruel but facts are facts. We need someone to bring consistency to the team. We blow hot and cold. The second we think the team is cooking and we are on the up we don't turn up at the next game.... so frustrating! We need to bring balance and shake off the 'nearly team' stigma. Also, the owners will not spend this summer if they think we will not have a good chance of getting CL next year.

    the trouble is not just dodgy decisions of var but also poor ref standards as well some know they made wrong decisions deliberately but don't care can't see why things can't be like Europe, It was a stonewall penalty and Manure should of had a lot more cards diving a lot to get advantage that good they should join the navy but our team was mediocre last night and waiting bring on replacements with a few minutes left was stupid

    Use the European system which is semi automatic..also give each manager a flag like in nfl to challenge a call 3 times in each half but if you lose your challenge it's gone for the rest of that half.. offside should give the advantage to the forward like it use to and stop this playing on when it's a clear offside

    1. The issue isnt VAR the issue is the people governing it. Our officiating is a complete joke, the standarda of referring is appalling. The only thing I would change, is have the audio available in the moment if you're watching on TV so you can hear the proccess.
    2. Eddie Howe does not have "Big Game" mentality, his loyalty to certain players has cost him. Fergy not only didn't care about upsetting players, he sacked some of his best players when they didn't show the heart and loyalty to the club. If you didnt perform, you didnt play. If you didnt play, you didnt stay.

    Get rugby refs to analyse incidents, they always get it right and are transparent, and, refs should be miked up like rugby refs to inform fans of decisions.
