About the United States Marine Corps:
The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles.
The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.
You don’t join the Marines-you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, and in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.
Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine Officers serve in active duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

My grandpa served with the Raiders on Okinawa during WW2 after the American's pulled him out of the water (His ship was sunk by kamikaze bombers, he was in the British fleet air arm working on corsairs for the Americans.) ... He said back then the raiders were made up of convicts and criminals, which is why they were sent in first to do recce missions. He was later shot in the knee cap during the battle for Okinawa.. Came back to Britain after Okinawa was won and almost got court marshalled and shot for desertion. (Which is stupid because the Americans couldn't have just taken him back when they were part of an invasion fleet going to Okinawa, which in turn, meant he couldn't get himself back) ... He survived the war. Died before I was born, but his stories and photographs remain and no one's sacrifice will be forgotten. War is hell. Always faithful, always forward. God bless.

At [3:12] a Marine is brandishing a P-08 Luger. That is a rare sidearm in this theatre. Most likely chain of events would be -- Germans sell arms to Chaing Kai Sheck's Army, mid-'30s. Japanese soldier takes it off a dead Nationalist Chinese soldier. A few years later he's assigned to the South Pacific and is in turn killed by the Marine in the photo. There was no cooperation among Axis Powers like the Allies had with Lend-Lease. The Nambu pistol was vastly inferior to the Luger.

I'm telling you man heroes these guys deserve so much in everyway shape and form. I would trade college and money for the Marine Corp. because this video right here was about family, dying and protecting your brothers in arms and always be there for each other when the demons come. And surviving together coming home and seeing your brothers in the future. You'll never get that relationship like they do anywhere else. that's why I say fuck those people that tell you otherwise and do what you know and feel is right for you.

sinfuldeception bruh that would just make sense...some Marines want to get out and pursue education or spend more time with your family, but yet still are willing to serve. It would be a GREAT retention tool so that we don’t have to lose people to the National Guard’s SF units (no disrespect to them, some people just want to stay Marine). I’d also like to add that the Corps should seriously consider implementing a Warrant Officer position in MARSOC, just like the Green Berets have. This would be a great recruiting, retention, and quality of life benefit, as some Marines will stay in BUT they want to earn some more pay for all the hard work they’re doing. More pay for more responsibility sounds fair to me, they’re freakin Marine Raiders for Christ’s sake-way above the normal Marine. More money not only motivates someone to stay in instead of getting out to be a civilian, but also enables them to save more money for their retirement as well. While the future of MARSOC may seem uncertain, we know they’re doing all that they can with what they have. I hope USASOC doesn’t get all butthurt at MARSOC for the mission creep with FID. If anything, I guess we’d have to add Force Recon to SOCOM since SOCOM doesn’t have a dedicated SR asset.

To prepare for the physical demands of Marine Corps Recruit Training or Officer Candidates School you should know you must pass the Marine Corps’ Physical Fitness Test (PFT) with a minimum score of 120. This consists of a 3-mile run, crunches and the choice to complete either pull-ups or pushups. To find out standards for your age group as well find tips on how to prepare visit: fitness.usmc.mil

Commit yourself and never give up no matter what you face. Contact your local Marine Corps recruiting center and ask them what physical training you need to do to prepare fro boot camp. My son committed his life to the Marine Corps and has excelled farther then I can tell you in his military career. Never let anyone tell you that you can't, when they do prove them wrong. The advice I just gave you applies to all aspects of life. Never say never and when things get tough just get tougher.

And I say this as a member of a large Army family that includes a green beret, and I myself ship out to be an Army medic in 2 months, so this isn't about me fanboying for the corps, it's about showing heroes the respect they deserve.

You are a fucking moron. Nothing else. USArmy Special Forces (Green Berets) are awesome soldiers, but they are Special Forces. USMarine Raiders (or previously Force Recon) are Special Operations. There is a big difference between the two. Spec Ops are SAS, SEALS, Delta, Raiders, etc. Pay a little more attention and learn a bit more before you post stupid comments! That being said, Green Berets are awesome, just not the same, not in the same league, and most definitely not "better".
