This was a powerful message. Not because Mr. Springfield is a "celebrity" ... but because he was honest and brave and humble to share his story despite being a "celebrity". Many of us think celebrities have it "all" and "shouldn't be depressed". Puts even more pressure on them. But beneath the celebrity status, he's a human with depression. Thank you for taking the courage to share your story, Mr. Springfield.

Rick has a way of really touching people. I have no doubt you were 'saved' that day for this very reason. You have helped me have hope. I may never know you...but, you will never know how much you have meant to me...and obviously, to numerous others!

I commend Rick for speaking; there are those who might see this that can possibly learn something from his video. There is nothing wrong with seeking help; the shame comes when one doesn’t ask for help. More people need speak up about Depression and other mental disorders; it’s a shame when the world shuns those who need help and makes them feel unwanted or out of place. Thank you to whomever posted this video.

This is a little bit long, but PLEASE read it all.....
I have spent 26 years with severe depression. I shot myself at 18 years of age. I loved KISS and Rick Springfield so much. I was in the hospital from the gunshot and I was watching videos on tv. Then the Rock Of Life video came on, and I knew Rick must have had a new album out. It was a small glimmer of hope for me. Then they transferred me to a mental institution for my depression, and my brother came in one day with a cassette of Rock Of Life. I had a Walkman and I played that cassette over and over and the song World Start Turning opened my eyes right there in the hospital. That song saved my life. Literally. I am now 44 years old, I have a daughter and a 4 year old granddaughter. I have a very good life. I still have horrible darkness (depression), but I live with it and carry on. So how do I tell someone, not from a "fan" perspective, but from a life lived for 26 more years after shooting myself, that just one song, World Start Turning, saved my life while I was in the hospital from trying to end it? I was planning on trying to kill myself when I got out of the hospital, the doctors could not help, the meds did not help, but one song changed my mind. Thank you Rick for ALL of your music, but thank you most of all for that one little song that me, my family, my kids, and my friends are so glad you recorded right when this one little guy in a small town in Tennessee called Rogersville needed it. World Start Turning...........I am alive because of it. Steven 7 Trent

While I was school. I did not want to live any longer and then I would listen to Rick Springfield's music and I start to feel better and want to live to hear his next hits. tv show, or if he is in another movie. I am so happy I was able to see the brighter side of life and I owe it to him. So glad you are working on staying with us, until it is really your time to go, which I hope and pray it will not be for a long long long time. xoxoxo

Rick speaking up has helped many of us realize there' s a light at the end of those deep dark tunnels. Love his music, he's brought so much joy to so many with it. Will always be listening out for his up and coming work. Met one of my first bf dancing to his music. Will always be a great memory

Everyone struggles with depression to some degree thru their lives. Often you don't hear about it because people try so hard to hide behind the perfect veneer. To see a successful musician openly discussing his struggle and ultimate triumph over depression is nothing short of incredible. It sets a standard for more celebrity to follow. It destigmatizes mental health disorders which are the same as any other physical illness. This is pure empowerment for others to follow Rick's example to survive.

Rick loved you since I was a child. I always wanted to go to your concerts. God is real. Give your heart to Jesus. Through his blood and stripes we can be saved. Depression is an ugly demon from satan. All the money, women, and fame can't fill the void intended for God. Love in Jesus

Firstly.....I love his music....always have. I remember getting this cd of his with I think it had a smile face a peace sign and a heart. It was black and white. I only got it because it was his music and I knew that it was gonna be good. I understand everything he's expressing here. Especially the joy that his artistic side brings to him......because that's his gift. I too had a special gift that was robbed from me due to bad medicines. The very places that I saught help did me harm. I needed rest and loving care but instead I was immediately labeled and drugged.......right from the start my body didn't respond to these altering chemicals. I was disoriented and would get lost driving home on a ride that was a straight run. The doctor insisted I keep taking medicine.......one bad turn after the next.......because they were more interested in keeping me sick than Making me well.......especially for the money. Music is the only thing that has kept me alive. I can't do my art like I used to and that's my biggest hurt. Creative people are the most sensitive beautiful souls on the planet. Artists see things differently and feel so much deeper than others. On a good day.....I might be able to write a poem or do 1 small creative thing and they truly are little miracles. If a creative person cannot do their passion......that's the biggest devastation of all......for me anyway. I thank God for music artists of all kinds because of the healing that their natural talent brings to my heart. I was so glad to see Mr. Rick Springfield smiling again. He truly is a very beautiful soul and talent. ❤

Our dear Rick, you have saved so many lives, I just hope you realize that, really no words to explain to you how many stories I know, but I know many, you and your story and your kindness and availability to all your fans are sent from God, I have no doubt about it, just want you to know too.....I think you do somewhat, but not to the full extent that how many, how very many, your sweet moments of kindness that we all can never forget, that moment that means so much to us, have saved our lives from the edge of ending ours, you were meant to be here, or many of us would not be, we love and appreciate you so much, Thank you Rick, we love you so much!

(Though you may never see this Rick; there are others who will) Rick you were meant to be here. With your acting, music, depression, experiences you have touched millions of lives. To clarify, with your depression you are able to help other people who are going through similar problems. Rick you are a God send and you are very much loved. I have two dogs of my own and they have helped keep me together. They give us so much more than we could ever give back. Thank you for being who you are and remember there is someone above that loves you. Take care and God Bless.. You are loved and Rick keep on “Rockin your Life” away….Trina F from Ohio

Great video, I applaud Mr. Springfield for doing this! We are ALL connected and share similar feelings, thoughts & beliefs-about ourselves and others, those who have achieved fame &/ or monetary wealth are no exception. He covers the gambit; loves dogs, referring to them as "fuzzy prozac", experiencing peace; "The only real peace I get is when I'm doing something I love to do" (great concept!), and hope, choice & action; "Have hope & take action. If you don't make a choice, the world will make a choice for you"
Bravo and thank you for sharing your world with us

Rick, mate, I first saw you performing at the Chandlers store at Fortitude Valley back in 1968 when you were with Wickedy Wak. That day the sound was more of a Hendrix sound rather than later times. Do you have any shame re "Billy's Biker Boys" (lol)? Great to see this video though and to see that you have come (as far as possible) to terms with depression. It can, and does, help performance at times - remember J. O'K and his bipolar episodes. All the best with your spiritual search mate, I found that getting some no nonsense truth about following Jesus is best for me. It could be worth while for you too - but don't go for any of the crowds who try to rope you in with their own rules, if it doesn't seem right probably it isn't when you check the Bible on it. All the best from an Aussie fan mate.

Beautiful video. Thank you for posting.
I was extremely depressed in my teens and twenties. There are many triggers for depression: thoughts, emotions, and diet. At times one aspect plays out on another plane. Becoming out of the depression, I found, involved me becoming motivated on all levels of my being to have things be different. Possibly a good place to begin is diet - don't 'go raw' but do include original, unprocessed, non-GMOs in your diet. Also increase your daily water intake, as dehydration begins long before we feel thirsty; I would also suggest start walking regularly, as depression often leads to inactivity. At times, I have also found, I start to feel depressed when I should be making a decision on something I am uncertain or nervous about.
The experience of depression is a cycle that affects all aspects of living; and only you can motivate yourself to deciding to break the cycle. But again, I wish say, the state of our diet plays a much greater role on our depression state than we can possibly realise without testing this idea out for a while. Be blessed.

Never really liked this guy in the 80's.... What brought me hear was his cover of a Sammy Hagar tune (Sammy I do admire!). Anyhoo.... this hit a chord as mental illness runs in my immediate family and I've always felt it has been under-represented (and under funded cuz most are broke who are afflicted). Thanks Rick..Much RESPECT....
