  • Verbier Festival has long become the most significant annual classical music festival in the world. Having been there once, you will forever become infected wit its spirit and will strive to come again and again.
    This recording is from now-distant 2007th. It is impossible to distract yourself away from Nelson Freire's mesmerizing performance, from the magic of his sound, from his amazing hands, from his always unexpected - yet convincing! - interpretations.
    Great many thanks to Ideale Audience for saving this unique concert for us. Once again, we see what kind of musician we have lost.
    * * *
    Фестиваль в Вербье давно уже стал самым весомым и представительным ежегодным фестивалем классической музыки в мире. Побывав там единожды, вы навсегда заразитесь его духом и будете стремиться приехать туда снова и снова.
    Эта запись - из далёкого уже 2007-го. Невозможно оторваться от завораживающей игры Нельсона Фрейре, от магии его звука, от его удивительных рук, от его - всегда неожиданных - интерпретаций.
    Огромное спасибо Ideale Audience за то, что сохранили этот уникальный концерт. Мы ещё раз мы видим, какого уровня музыканта потеряли.

    Again a marvelous recital by this genius on the piano. His magic fingers, hands and face are a joy to look at. He was born for the piano and as a little boy he replayed melodies by heart his elder sister played on the piano. He also was a very good sight reader so he could learn very quickly pieces from the score. Thanks to IPB we still can enjoy the many recitals he left us. I still miss him too as he visited many times my home town Amsterdam for performances. May he rest in piece!

      Nelson Freire was one of the very few Olympians and a very humble man at the same time. I happened to talk to him once for about 10 minutes and still remember.
      Thank you for the comment, Pavel.

    “O médico cuida do seu corpo, o professor te educa e o artista alimenta o seu espírito. E são três coisas que não são valorizadas no Brasil, infelizmente. Ver aquelas crianças saindo de um ambiente de balas perdidas, de violência, de miséria, é bom. E o meu sonho é ver este teatro cheio dessas crianças”, disse Nelson.
    Obrigado Nelson freire ..que belas palavras suas

      Não conhecia essa frase do grande Nelson Freire. Obrigado.
      Anos depois de sua partida deste mundo, a dor ainda é a mesma...

    Una Waldstein poetica e creativa, con fraseggi scanzonati che questa musica richiede, interpretata davvero al meglio!

    He had a fever that day and wasn't feeling great. He played Albéniz's Navarra as an encore, but stopped halfway through the piece. He said to the audience: it is not a good day for Navarra. Then he played other encores. Medici cut that part from the video, unfortunately.

      I did not know this, thank you so much for this piece of information. "Navarra" is not the easiest piece to play, especially as encore. It is suppose to emanate the energy, but not openly, rather the fire within. Knowing his modest personality, I can only imagine how bad it was for him if he stopped half way. But then, the audience in Verbier is absolutely exquisite. They understand and appreciate an honest performance. I can't wait for the summer to go there again.

    good luck to those of you who think the Bach-Busoni is "easy". The giant wall you slam into is Bach's shoe.

      Hm-m! Never thought about it, but you know, there may be some face features that are slightly similar. Maybe this is a generic nobleness...
