    I am very impressed with Xu xin's backhand improvement. He has improved his backhand consistency and the quality of it as well. The problem Xu Xin is facing now is his speed and recovery time. Xu Xin has big strokes and his playstyle is mostly at the backh of the table and hitting the ball only when it reaches the top of the bounce. This style may be useful against a lot of foreigners as they do not know his game well but not against his chinese teammates. He has lost to a lot of his colleagues because of his play style. But no matter what, this playstyle is what made xu xin the cloudwalker and producing all the spectacular and entertaining rallies. I thank you for that and congratulations for making the top 10 point of the tournament once again.

      if you think back long time ago that was considered impossible. we wouldnt have guessed that a penholder will evolve its meta like this, and achieves a backhand, that can almost play like a normal one.

    Xu Xin used to have a weak BH, this time he shows a lot of improvement in this tournament. But, now his problem is he can’t make a smooth fast transition between FH and BH. Particularly, due to the grip of the RPB, it is much more difficult to make a good shot when the ball is coming to the area between the middle of the body and the BH. Lin exploit this weakness almost perfectly, you can see that after the 3rd game, Xu Xin was completely cornered and his hands were tied. Kudos to Lin for this smart play, he sure has come a long way.

    • @SomeRandomGuy777x
      @SomeRandomGuy777x Před 5 lety +3

      I for one think it was both. Tactics and speed. As the shots that goes right into his racket are not "forced" errors.
      + I think he stepped over too much, and left his (Xu's) tactics too predictable.

      The problem is that Xu Xin's game is built primarily to beat right handers.Against a lefty that sidespin doesn't do much damage.LG could keep with XX's forehand in rallies even though his forehand is nothing special.XX had the same problem against Chen Qi in the past.

    LGY has improved a lot since last year. More speed, spin and power plus strong mentality and strategy. Think he will stay in the CNT for a long time. XX is lethal to foreign players but not to his own country men as they all know his style too well. It's not bad to get into the semi's anyway. Better luck next time. He's always our show man, full of surprises and fun. No one can play and entertain these days.

    Xu Xin played great, as good as we’ve seen. And that backhand is a real threat now. But Lin Gaoyuan is so good against those he knows well. Almost error free, can read all of Xu’s serves, can counterloop off the bounce against the world’s best loop, he seems to know where every ball is going. And Lin’s confidence is sky high. But Xu doesn’t know where Lin is going, you see him wrong footed many times. This is like strategy against an opponent who can read all your emails but the reverse is not true.

    Xu Xin may have the best forehand among all professional players, but he also has a backhand below average. I think that's why he plays like an artist because he has to play in that way. He has to put extra efforts to make his opponent counter with his forehand instead of backhand. Many of his magnificent shots come from making up for the unfavorable condition his backhand brought.

  • @artaz899
    @artaz899 Před 5 lety

    Xu Xin can play RPB better but he use it behind the table where it is harder and not that effective . He should start using it for not only spin but punch and early bounce tempo backhand . The thing is if he do this his forehand should change as well to shorter stroke often and use more FH flips and this is good vs LGY but all this change just for 1 player that knew your game well ... and LGY may just came up with something new :) If Wang Hao was left handed it would be interesting to see how it would play out.

    I think Xu Xin is stuck in a weird place right now. His backhand is stable enough that he can rally with the best. But it is not lethal enough to score. So it's difficult for him to initiate attacks. I really hope he has a plan to continue building more tactics around his backhand.

    @HarisAftab Před 5 lety

    Xu xin because of his dominant forehand side gets himself out of position. The Chinese players handle the spin that he generates well so thereby reducing his advantage. When he is using his FH topspin they counter and hit a counter FH to the other side where obviously he can't reach. His improvements in BH will make his position close to the center of table. Thus making sure other can't take advantage of the empty right sided space of xu xin.
    Again it's so tough to change your game as xu xin's style was never this. But he has made significant improvements uptill now.

    What a match ! XX really has improved his RPB but still he is too slow to recovery. He needs to "trust" that the RPB will win the points as much as his FH winners. Goes to show how much more room for improvement XX has !
    LGY is the new batch that has "learnt" to "strike" the ball a lot harder ... FZD, LJK, LGY ... all the new kids are learning that 40+ ball means you can hit it like crazy. Now if only XX can use all his "spin" potential and force the hitters early into erroring.
    This is going to be crucial, can spin overcome speed ? Can you spin so much that any smash will fly off into the distance? XX is the HIGHEST spin player around ... even ML doesn't play so much spin game anymore.
    40+ balls has really nerfed the game, but XX has adapted his spin even on the crappy ball.
    We will have to wait and see if XX can put the spin early and keep the ball in play longer.
    XX has the C-pen to put deceptive spins on the ball, but can he do it effortlessly and flawlessly in the game ?
    XX has the abilities and advantage in experience and skill, can he make his "body" react with the confidence and "quickness" needed to beat these whipper-snappers ???

      He played well here, when someone returns that one extra shot it switches the perspective of winning the point like a boss to added pressure which is also somewhat governed by luck. So in a match of few points, the aforementioned volatility is something to attribute to LGY excellence rather than XX's failure.

Maybe he was just tired, but either way, there were balls there that he could have returned that he didn’t bother doing. In no way am I trying to take away the win from LGY. He played very well, it’s just that he had the added advantage of is opponent not being in tip-top mental shape.

  • @abstractexchange5057
    @abstractexchange5057 Před 5 lety +1

    Xu Xin is most artist player in table tennis world. Xu Xin forehand topspin is the most typical pupil of old Liu Gualang school from the era of chinese trio superstars Wang Liquin-Ma Lin-Wang Hao. Then japanese manufactures manipulated to apply heavyweight balls (ball weight was 2 grams, then 2.5 grams, and now 2.7 grams) to set up bored japanese "swift hits" style in order to win against chinese players. With these illegal heavyweight balls, Japan than introduced its new generation of small bodied players (it was Harimoto, it is Niwa, Kenta, Hirano, Ito, ...) , which are fit to these ILLEGAL heavyweight balls and japanese bored 'swift hits' style. Even Liu Gualang doubted that Xu Xin forehand topspin techniques are outdated. But Xu Xin is showing the other objective reality. With his forehand topspin, Xu Xin easily beats Harimoto all times. Other new chinese players have troubles against Harimoto, but Xu Xin have not. Xu Xin can easily beat any chinese top players too.
    Xu Xin had problem. He was a traditional penholder with old traditional penholder backhand techniques. Then Xu Xin added modern backhand techniques of reversed racket side strokes, but he used mixed backhand techniques : old penholder backhand techniques and modern penholder backhand techniques. It is wrong choose. Penholders can choose only one from 2 styles, but not mixed style. It is because of the issue of reaction orientation in quick rallies. Fortunately for Xu Xin, that he then entirely switched to use only modern backhand techniques. For the last 2 years, we see that Xu Xin set up his reaction to play only modern backhand techniques with racket reversed sides for backhand strokes. It is right decision. And this switch requires about 2 year to be fluently applied. Xu Xin spent 2 years from this switch. Xu Xin is now in the stage of modern penholder backhand techniques improving. So Xu Xin still has real big potential. He does not have time to archive career as Ma Long, but he still can win grand slam and olympic title.
    The weakness of Xu Xin is that he sometimes stops running and playing after realizing his famous forehand topspin, because he thinks that his opponents can not handle. But top players now can easily handle these balls, but they can not initially attack from these balls. So Xu Xin topspin can give him a bit advantages of forcing his opponent to lose positions, but these topspins can not often give directly points. That is why must keep running, and not to risk to earn direct points with forehand topspin in uncleared dominated cases. Xu Xin often play backhand in his so high poses. It is problem too, because he lost temp and angle in backhand techniques and in maneuver of switching forehand-backhand. It is clearly in this match. And his backhand strokes are still lag of spin, not enough spin as Wang Hao backhand strokes.
