Body Count -- they opened for Metallica with Guns & Roses in 1989 at a Day on the Green show in Oakland. Ice-T did surprise me; he would have posed strong competition to any thrash metal band. Since he'd already achieved his status in other "musical flavors," and television characters, why not a title role in every other field, too? Damn.
He's a man of many talents.

Ice T has always been one of the most important voices of our generation ("X"). Period. I'm about to turn 41. He's been in my headphones and vhs/DVD players for over 30 of those years. He was the killer of the bully when the bully said watch your mouth. T said naw fuk that. And his word stuck. He brought races, coasts, cultures and even families together over previously uncrossable boundry lines. White kids in a syndicate hats. Black kids in a metal pits. A whole generation of ppl standing up to police and government brutality. He changed the world, massively, for the better! Thats the illest shit a man can do, aside from parent right. That guy has certainly made his point EXACTLY CLEAR & it’s always been his mentality since Body Count was brought to life right at the height of the Gangster Rap movement in the late 1980s/early 1990s, and Ice-T hass still as ferocious & hard as ever 🧊
Being a huge Melodic Heavy Metal 🤘🏻 fan myself I never imagined that such a great & now CLASSIC band made up of real life gang members/musicians & led by none other than one of the most talented yet controversial rappers in history could gain that level of respect, notoriety & unparalleled success over its 30 years of existence & they’re STILL as unapologetic as back then ✊ 👍
Speaking of which, and I’m making this case EXTRA CLEAR, their now iconic song “Cop Killer” isn’t about killing police but actually tells the story of a dream that Ice had one night in which he becomes fed up with the cops surrounding his home turf & he decides to, much to the chagrin of his neighbors, take matters into his own hands, which is exactly what NOT to do 🏠 🏡 ☝️ 🚔 👮 👮‍♀️

Necessary Evil, is one of my all time favorite songs.
I sold Ice-T a pair of shoes at Footlocker in the 90s. He was very kind, and took a picture with me.
It always stuck with me, at how genuine he was.

Ice T and Body Count NEVER get the credit they deserve. They are absolutely one of the all time greatest thrash metal bands of all time. With 1 song, they managed to piss off more people than NWA, Motley Crue, Guns n' Roses, Slayer, WASP, and 2 Live Crew COMBINED!!!!! Truly innovative artists, and truly BADASS!!!! And then, after losing all the members of the band except Ernie C, they rebuilt, and continue being BAD FUCKING ASS!!!!!

  • @anfrankogezamartincic1161

I am neither in metal nor in the rap camp, but ICE T (solo & Bodycount) is always refreshing, OG BADASS

Ice T. Your what us musicians inspire from. Love ya man, even if we never met. Your real. These days, that doesn't come by often. And as a musician from the early 90's, your what we search for. Knowingly or not. Live on forever!

Musicians never really fully understand what their music means to their fans. They don't understand that we feel the loss as if we were in the band, ourselves. What Ice was talking about isn't just glossed over by those of us who love rhis band. We feel it, too. Body Count just gets better and better. I'm definitely here for the ride. Long live Body Count!!!!

The first 2 albums still get regular rotation and the cover of Hey Joe is top class.

They never mentioned the Murder 4 Hire Album. I'd like to see that album remastered because I heard the mixing in terms of sound/track levels weren't really up to par with the rest of their work.

I am a total old school metal head who had no idea Body Count was a extreme metal band that is fucking awesome! My ignorance led me to believe that Body Count was a infused rock hip hop act similar to Public Enemy (although Public Enemy was about the only hip hop act I ever enjoyed somewhat). Wow was I missing out! For the past 3 days I have been checking out Body Count's live videos and I am smitten. I always knew Ice T rocked but now I realize he is a head of a movement! These men are what is missing in country today. I love there anti feminist, anti multi pronoun bullshit, anti racist, anti woke, and all anti bullshit liberalism. Ice T and the whole band are my new heroes.
