The Book Of Clarence Does HORRIBLE at the theaters

- The Book of Clarence performed severely at the theaters during the Martin Luther King weekend, grossing roughly $3.4 million despite costing $40 million to produce. Multiple factors can be the cause for the low box office turnout: economy, inflation, rising theater costs, etc, but this Jay-Z-produced drama-comedy looks to be dead in the water. Not even its star cast could save it.

The book of Clarence did poorly because the theaters chose not to promote it..I didn't even know it was out, but i know when the avengers, spider Man, Dr strange and all that other stuff was coming out.
Despite the flop I'm sure it'll do great on streaming
It was a really good movie nonetheless

I Watch a little but of it. Was unimpressed. Unfunny ripoff of life of Brian, which is a fine but obviously silly movie to begin with. And I like Sanfeild, but I don’t understand the casting at all. Nothing really worked for me. Will absolutely never understand why we needed basically a remake of life of Brian of all movies

they thought they could do that with clarence 13X smith's name and character. wrong answer. it's the end for them is all now, being that the book of clarence [2.22.1928-6.13.1969] is my own book. judgement days sealed.
I don't care about the blasphemy issue, but the premise just sounds corny and stale. Jay-Z and company are NOT the Monty Python crew. Sounds like they partied too hard and decided "Let's make a funny movie". 🙄
I'd also note that one can be Jewish *and* of African decent, so no problem with a Black cast; that part is actually more realistic than how most movies of this period portray the population's ethnicity.
Some in the comments say it's funny, but there are some people out there who actually liked 'They Cloned Tyrone' so I can't trust positive comments about this film.

Lastly, we saw this idea done better with less time spent on it, in Dogma, with Rufus the black apostle played by Chris Rock

It was, offensive, dull, trying, fake vibes, sudo-black suprem. Bs.
But I will say. The sound track has some chill jams and there’s a song that kicks between the dance number and the violent crucifixion(I wish I was kidding) that I could help but sway to So….there’s that.1/10
This movie was tonally psychotic, idiot in its limp premise, as boring and underactrd as it was absurd and nonsensical, but also profane to the religious base it was lowbrow pandering to, and hamfisted and unintelligent in any and all of its attempts to execute anything resembling a film. Also all black cast, my black Jesus, Hotep bs vs to and are modern cops?
I've only heard of it because of the Jay-Z/D'Angelo song from the soundtrack. Had the song on my YT watch list for a week and still haven't got to it yet so ehhhhh.......and now hearing your commentary......that joint might get deleted before even playing it cause 2024 Jay + D are NOT the 1996/2000 Jay + D I grew up on!
I stand 10 toes down alongside you! 👏🏾 People think it's ok to mock Christ and many black people have become deceived in making our skin color our identity above our relationship with Christ, but they have no idea what they're playing with. I also want to add that it's very bold and wise of you to respect the faith without having to be a part of the Christian community. I pray God continues to move you forward and increase your viewer community.
