One afternoon when I was feeling particularly overwhelmed by the state of the world, this song came and tapped me on the shoulder as if to wake me up: "Hey Kina--choose love." A hundred times a day I am pulled to sadness/fear/unworthiness/anger, and in those moments it feels nearly impossible to come back to love and hope and gratitude, but every now and then, by some miracle, I can feel how there is space for all of it--that maybe it's less about rejecting the heavier things, but managing to meet those things with love, too.

Kina, you should be on prescription! Truly you help to heal people with your magic music and haunting voice & guitar! I discovered you earlier this year on Spotify when I was trying to find music to sooth me when I couldn't sleep. Since then I have you on constant replay, I love this song and I love so much of your music, along with your outstanding lyrics and haunting voice, all of which has moved me beyond words. You are one talented lady and America is lucky to have you, wish wish you could come to the UK so that we could see you live in a small venue somewhere - or a music festival like the amazing Latitude festival where your kind of music would be right at home. The lyrics in this song are really perfect. I think this is one of your best songs. And in reading your snippet regarding how the song came out of your heart and brain, I think you hit on embracing the discomfort that comes with being human, understanding that everyone goes through these times. HSP’s ( highly sensitive people) feel everything in Dolby surround sound and experience things on high octane. Not always the best for you, but people like you bring so much empathy and love into this world. Everyone is the same, yet so different.

It helps me remember that what were going through now; racism, pandemic, just chaos in general, is just a phase of life and well get through it by loving each other, and standing by each other, and that we all have the same heartbeat and that heartbeat cant be taken from us! we have to love anyway, its what keeps us human, what keeps us sane.

This music is more mature than that of her previous album. It still uses the minimalistic instrumentation--it showcases Kina's talent that she can do so much with just a guitar while others with complicated setups slog on--but the people who produced this song used the trademark harmonies more sparingly--which served to set them off better than before.
I look forward to the privilege of observing her continued growth as an artist.
