    I really want to try all the products you used! And yes, I also am surprised as to how the red cabbage turns everything blue! It's AMAZING. I have to try cooking with it again!

    Going to boil some cabbage to make blue dye to use just for a rainbow dog birthday cake, if you think that's extra you are probably not wrong but will hurt my and my dog's feelings

    Hello! I make naturally colored soaps and candles and my favorite green is spirulina. I learned from you today that there is blue spirulina, which is SO exciting! I can't wait to try it in soapmaking to see what color it becomes. Thank you💙

    I added the liquid to my white yogurt and it turned pink! The bottle full of red cabbage liquid is totally blue due to baking soda but it won’t turn yogurt blue

    • @Veggiekins
      @Veggiekins  Před 3 lety +3

      That likely has to do with the PH of your yogurt, it all changes because of the acidity levels, so if you introduce something else (yogurt), it'll change :)

    aRE any of these methods heat resistant?? Am trying to bake a blue cake using natural food dye, but it's seeming impossible - the blue spirulina loses all it's blue. Do you have a way that works?? Ps. thanks for the video!!

    • @josephhelms2362
      @josephhelms2362 Před rokem

      The cabbage, butterfly pea, and goji berries should be heat resistant, since they don’t deform when heated.

  • @juchidaf
    @juchidaf Před 6 lety +7

    I have a question. Sometimes, whenever I cook with the natural dye, it comes a total different color. Example, once I wanted to bake some pink muffins and used natural beet dye, by cooking some beet in hot water for minutes and obtained this red, intense liquid. By the time I added some tsps to the mix, it was a pink great color but after the bake, it wasnt pink at all.. it was a bit of a disappointment.. so I was wondering if this has ever happened to you and how you do it

    • @Veggiekins
      @Veggiekins  Před 6 lety +4

      It's all chemistry! :) All the colours come of reactions. Typically colours change under temperatures and also as something cooks it tends to become more brown, so keep that in mind as well.

    • @lennonstewart4965
      @lennonstewart4965 Před 5 lety +2

      This is specifically the Maillard reaction! It happens when amino acids react with sugars at a specific temperature

      try butterfly pea flowers (natural blue) and add something acidic (which makes it anywhere from purple to magenta). that might work.

  • @josephhelms2362
    @josephhelms2362 Před rokem

    There seem to be a lot of concerns about using red sabbath or goji berries and not getting the color you wanted. Guys, the pigments are in red cabbage and black goji berries are INDICATORS! They will change color based on the pH of whatever they are mixed with. Typically, these dyes are pink when in acid and blue when in base.

  • @marieann5887
    @marieann5887 Před 6 lety +6

    • @Veggiekins
      @Veggiekins  Před 6 lety +6

      That means you created another chemical reaction with something off-setting the PH balance in whatever food you added

    Does the red cabbage water work for frosting?

    • @sunzitra2547
      @sunzitra2547 Před 8 měsíci

      Better to use non daily frosting for this in my opinion. If you use the dairy one it might not come in purple hue due to the chemistry.
