It was when the subject came up chatting with fans after a gig years ago that THE CHRISTIANS lead singer Garry Christian first thought about how the band might help in the plight of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her unjust imprisonment.
‘We (the band) talked about how the words from ‘Man Don’t Cry’ (a track from our number one album COLOUR released back in 1991) couldn’t be more appropriate in describing the Ratcliffe’s distressing predicament … We talked ourselves out of it thinking the band’s profile wasn’t big enough to make a difference and the years rolled on … but after seeing Richard Ratcliffe recently on his 21 day hunger strike, we just couldn’t bear NOT to do anything and decided to take action and record ‘Naz Don’t Cry’ with proceeds going to REDRESS (an international human rights organisation who seek justice for victims of torture and secured diplomatic protection in UK for Nazanin).
On December 1st Garry and band members Joey Ankrah & Neil Griffiths from THE CHRISTIANS, writer Henry Priestman, accompanied by Richard Ratcliffe and his & Nazanin’s daughter Gabriella all recorded the track at Coastal Sound studios in Liverpool (with all parties including studio owner Tim Speed agreeing to waive all fees.) … You can hear even hear Richard and Gabriella on the end backing vocals.
‘As these words say …. We only hope she knows that there are people here who care ..the song is just to deliver the simple message that we are all still standing shoulder to shoulder with Nazanin, her devoted husband Richard and beautiful daughter Gabriella … It’s absolutely desperate that after all these years she STILL hasn’t been released back to her family … if only this song could help in some tiny way.’ said Garry Christian.
‘Naz Don’t Cry’, is released on Island Records available for download on iTunes and all UK music platforms.

I've just listened to your tracks from 1987 too Excellent Brilliant Songwriting/Vocals Best Wishes. I suffer from Trauma Torture & Injustices done to me & Nazanin didn't deserve it either I hope she is Free & no longer wretchedly detained.
This band are wonderful human beings who have written some of the most meaningful songs of recent times.
Saw your live in Norwich back in the mid-80s, fantastic sound, great live act and meaningful songs. 'Forgotten Town' was just iconic and spoke to a generation. Amazing how that flame is still burning decades later. Thank you for this new song, so powerful, speaks for the few and the many.
