      Im not so suprised anymore, GameFreak is known for just randomly throwing out something they got right and everyone loved. Like the time they worked hard on polishing and polishing the online functionality over a few games and getting it almost perfect in X & Y before throwing it out completley in Sun and Moon. Sword and Shield was a step up, but still pretty awful. Like, what happened, why didnt you just keep polishing it, why did you start over? Lets Go had actual flying and air battles, why did they throw that out? Lets Go also had pretty cool abilities to ride/fly on pokemon and poekmon follow you and stuff. I wish they would just focus on quality and keeping things people loved nsteado this weird resets liek they completely forgot these random features and are having to re-learn how to implement them. You're so right. Dammit, now I'm dying to play Lets Go P/E. Sure, you're limited to the 151 Pokemon, but there's clearly more attention and care given to make them feel more animated and unique, especially when they follow you around. I love how you can ride Snorlax in what is clearly a shout out to Studio Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro. Both this and BDSP were nostalgia-baiting, obvious cash grabs, but Let's Go P/E were remakes of YELLOW (aka, the BETTER Blue and Red version) while BDSP were DIAMOND AND PEARL remakes and not PLATINUM (aka, the BETTER Diamond and Pearl). If we actually get a Johto version of Let's Go, I'll toss BDSP into a garbage bin and buy Let's Go Johto midnight release.

      Yellow was technically "The special edition" like Silver ane Emerald, etc... but Gen 1 was before Special editions were normalized and Yellow was pretty bad all around. Originally it was only intended to be Red and Blue and originally there was no anime, also it was released at the endo f the Gameboy lifespan before GBC came in so it was expected to possibly be a flop. Pokemon Yellow only came about because the game wasn't a flop and the anime had really take off and everyone loved Jesse and James and kids were wiashing the game would be more like the anime with starting off with a Pikachu. I remember kids on the playground at school saying that. GameFreak listened and by then the GBC had released so Gamefreak quickly rushed Pokemon Yellow out which gave kids exactly what they hoped, Pokemon Red & Blue, but it's similar to the anime with Jessie & James and your late so you get a Pikachu. They also rushed in some sort of hack to get basic colors in. It wasn't thought out too well and it was very rushed, the colors were kind of bad, Jessie and James weren't fully in and still just normal Team Rocket Grunts, and Pikachu makes a horrible starter Pokemon. Lets Go fixed this by making Pikachu have perfect IVs and unique moves and made him feel more like an actual starter companion and they properly brought in Jessie and James fully.

Sure, all of the Gen 4 evolutions included in the new Johto dex evolves from moves, so they can't really circumvent it except for Magnezone and such, but at least having Crobat, Slowking, Hitmontop, Electivire, Magmortar, Steelix, Rhyperior, Magnezone, Hitmontop, Porygon2 and Z, Blissey, Kingdra, any Eeveelutions outside of Gen 2, and more that I probably forget can diversify the variety of Kanto teams a bit.

      I TOTALLY agree. A realistic graphic isn't a good graphic and SwSh demonstrates it. Also, many pokemon got they're colors washed in 3D generations (just look at Starmie, it's more grey than purple) and LGPE were the only one to show us a really colorful world, without failed attempts of detailed textures and washed colors

  • @troy612

    The Let's Go games graphically look like a natural progression from their DS and 3DS counterparts. The artstyle is sublime and unmistakenly pokemon, with the new animations of pokemon in the overworld really bringing back character to the franchise's titular beings. No overly convoluted yet stupidly simple plot, no dlc expansions to the game to flesh it out and no absurd battle gimmick that gets tiring after 10 same-y feeling battles.
    I was really hoping that Let's Go would be a glimpse of what was to come and that the problems such as the "babified" battle mechanics and lack of held items would just be for these inbetween generation titles.
    But I don't see how Sw/Sh is any different. They're just as ample examples of "baby's first pokemon game," where the only challenge is if you make strict rules to restrict yourself or hack to turn the exp share off.
    I think upon initial review, everyone was jaded by the Let's Go series because they weren't the big leap forward in gameplay everyone was expecting.
    I would argue that X/Y and Sw/Sh were leaps backwards in gameplay, with Sun/Moon at least attempting to have a different formula and stand out in what is now 8 generations of the same core gameplay.
    The Let's Go series and the development behind it has since aged gracefully when compared to it's other Switch counterpart.

      I played Ultra Moon before I played Sword because I skipped out on Gen 7, and while yes Gen 7 had sorta linear routes they at least look so millions of times better than SWSH’s route designs.
      Plus, Gen 7 was actually impressive. Going from chibi models in XY to full proportioned models in SU is actually impressive. And it’s on the 3DS.
      I guess let’s hope that the same thing that happened with Gen 4 to Gen 5 and Gen 6 to Gen 7 happens (in that the second generation on a new console is leagues better than the first)

    • @KidFlash8294
      @KidFlash8294 Před 3 lety +4

      I feel like where Pokémon messed up with Let’s Go was getting rid of the wild battles. Tbh the whole motion control to throw a poke ball thing never bothered me because I could always just click A and it threw the ball. I just wish we could battle the Pokémon till it fainted and then tried to catch it that way. It would make more sense as to why our Pokémon get experience from catching Pokémon too. But I 1000% agree with the art style thing. Sword and Shield aren’t bad artistically but Let’s Go just felt like it had way more character and in turn felt like a better video game and more natural for a Pokémon Game. Having the normal looking people in Sword and Shield felt really awkward especially without any voice acting. In let’s go no voice acting to me felt like it wasn’t as big a deal because the character models looked more toy-ish. They could always improve the lighting and when they added in voice acting then progressed to more realistic proportions for the character models. It’s also the lack of sound improvements in the games that bother me. The music composition is great and all. But them not having voice acting, or like Pokémon cries for when they get hit or faint that aren’t just pitch changes or tempo alterations really make the games feel dated. They’ve never added to the sounds of the game to make it feel more next gen or new. It’s a bunch of jingles and battle themes.

    One of my favorite parts in this game, is the fact that pokemon have different sized. Now, I know this is a minor thing to most people, but to me it adds depth. Not only having them in battles but their actual height and weights. In all pokemon games, they're all the same height and weight. Every charizard you catch is going to be 5'7 and weighting 200 pounds, but not in let's go. You can either get a 8'7 charizard or one that's 4ft and it just makes your pokemon more special (well to me). I mean, Imagine someone trying to ride a 4ft charizard. Also, it's like my way of shiny hunting (but not as time consuming). Now this is easier then shiny hunting, but even if I did catch a large pokemon, there's a chance I could get a larger one. For example, I thought all extra large pokemon are 33% taller/longer but then I found out recently that it could go over 50%. Maybe even higher. Who knows. There's just so many variations. Another thing, is that pokemon that you feel should be taller/shorter, can be. That 9ft charizard we all wished we had? Boom, now you do. A pidgey who's 6 inches tall that you want on your shoulder? Yeah it exist now. Nidoking being 8ft? Well, okay I don't know if it can go that tall, but it might happened. Also, if Johto remakes of let's go come out, I definitely going to catch a 9ft tall furret.

I wasn’t hyped for the game whatsoever, but it was the first time I played Pokémon on my TV. I could use one JoyCon so another hand was free; I could throw Pokeballs to catch my favourite Pokémon; it was easier than ever to “catch ‘em all”; my Pokémon came with me from carrying a PC in my pocket to flying on my Charizard and all the Pokémon were out in the open for me to see. The story was a rehash of Yellow in many ways, but boy was it enjoyable.

    I’ve been saying this for a while: GameFreak should’ve used Dexit to work on
    A. Improving battle animations
    B. Adding in follow and ride pokemon
    If they had worked on improved Battle animations for the OG 151 they would already have a sizable chunk of monsters and attacks better animated. Not to mention that they would’ve had 151 Pokemon available for you to ride. But no they took the chance to be fucking lazy. And considering how well SwSh sold they know that they don’t have to try and put it in effort. I bought SwSh and honestly unless I see major sizable improvements in the next Gen (as in the game is on par with Dragon Quest 11 or BOTW), I ain’t getting it.

      Personally while I would still like a full roster, if they had just made it a quality similar to Zelda and Mario in Switch, I would've respected their decision for the cut (although HOME would've still be schemy) - I keep on asking this question to those who doesn't care about the sacrifices made, why aren't more demanding for higher quality than it being "the best Pokemon game since Gen 5", when if they made these risky sacrifices, it really should be the best core series games as of now IMO?

    • @Lunarose17
      @Lunarose17 Před 3 lety +3

      @@zjzr08 I think the main issue is The Pokemon Company. They want GameFreak to release a new game yearly because with new games, new Pokémon, with new Pokémon, new merchandise, TCG, anime, etc. Pokémon as a brand sadly is in a position where they need the games to be able to continue and I think that that really fucking sucks. I also think that it’s TPC’s decisions for making the DLC cost 30$, making Pokémon Home a overpriced subscription based service that still requires a subscription Pokémon Bank if you wanna send over your Gen 7 and below mons. Oh and the stupid decision to split Home into two applications (switch and mobile) with different functions.
      Now that’s not to say that GameFreak isn’t at fault here. Junichi Masuda’s philosophy on “kids are too busy to play our games/ the battle frontier” is really detrimental. It shows genuine lack of faith in your gameplay... so why not reinvent it? I get that you kinda couldn’t do a open world type game on the 3DS but we’re on the switch now.

      Well, Rescue Team DX is part of the Mystery Dungeon series, which is easily one of the most popular spinoff series. I would say that all the Mystery Dungeon games have certain advantages over the mainline games; the music is consistently amazing, and their post-games actually have storylines that you don’t have to pay for. The games tend to be more story-driven in general, actually, with some legitimately emotional moments.
      But back to Rescue Team DX, it’s a remake of the original Rescue Team. It adopted a unique aesthetic that I can’t quite describe(save that I personally prefer it to SwSh), and it’s gameplay is pretty polished. Admittedly, that gameplay isn’t for everyone; it involves randomly generated dungeons, which I’ve heard people call repetitive. Still, if you’re interested, DX is a great introduction to the series(just be warned: if you ever review it, fans will probably want you to look at Explorers of Sky).

    At long last I’ve finally met someone else who agrees Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee are the best “Modern” games. Nowadays, it’s debatable cuz of Legends Arceus, but I still really like Let’s Go.
    I also really agree with basically all your points. The game has a few noticeable flaws, but it’s positives outweigh them, and those positives are crucial parts of the series that other modern games have failed to do, such as making it feel alive, not being uncanny, having a good amount of content, and generally being fun.
    Btw nice Halloween reference at 8:25

    I personally LOVED this game. The music, the style, it gave me that same nostalgic feeling as if I were a kid again playing Pokémon. Coming from very a small, lonely & isolating town with long winters this game sure kept me busy for up to 2 years, so it'll always be special to me & I hope to see a new Let's Go down the road

    One thing you forgot to mention is the coop system the game introduced. While some may hate it, I personally really enjoy it, since you can work together to catch pokemon or gang up on a trainer, it makes the game feel more alive to me. It also allows me to introduce my younger siblings to the game without dumping too much info on them and causing them unneeded stress from losing without knowing anything, I can introduce to the mechanics in a nice and slow way while also making some nice memories having a pokemon journey at the same time.

    ah and one more thing you forget to mention. The soundtrack in these games is so good! It's like the perfect remaked soundtrack for the time these games were developed in. It feels really refreshing.
    I hope they don't fuck up the Gen4 remake tracks. If they would sound like Let's Go it would be perfect imo

    • @triebelus
      @triebelus Před 3 lety

      @@GireumRed and that's considered a fact!
      nah for real tho. Im just hoping that Gen4 will be a remake they cannot really fuck up cause the music is already set! Like you mentioned in the video. There is no pressure to create something new when it comes to map design. They just have to make a orchestral version. But in general pokemon music is something you cannot really blame about even if I didn't really like the 7 and 8 gen music except for a few tracks This is the one consistent parts of pokemon.
      I think a really good example of what Gen4 remakes could sounds like is "insaneintherainmusic". I think most of pokemon fans know carlos. He's doing a really good job.

    A really good review of the game. As someone interested in whether or not to buy it months after release, and also being a Pokémon veteran with lots of feelings of nostalgia for the original generation, you helped answer all of my questions as far as whether another remake of Kanto would be worth playing through. Almost certainly will buy it.

      i have the exact sema opinion as u, i didnt like the lets go cuz of the fact u cant play w the controller when u playin on a tv, i didnt like the catching method but now i remember how "immersive" in the game i was when i moved my arm and pretended to throw my pokeball plus, the flying with dragonite or charizard its still kinda bad cuz u keep on hitting stuff every 10 sec, but the trading method is awful

    You said in a previous video that the 'Old gen' games ended at 'Black and White' and 'Black 2 and White 2'. I was wondering if you have considered doing a analysis of these games, maybe alongside the newer ones to see what should be brought back, what should change and what is fine as is? (Also because B/W are my favorite games, just slightly ahead of HG/SS)

    I'm excited for scarlet and violet, however I am worried. Lots of people that got to play early are like "finally we step away from linear routes" but all I see is open empty areas with towns and stuff, with routes like in lets go they can put more effort in the details and make it feel more alive

    i totally agree with everything you said here. i really hope we get a second set of let's go games for gen 2. the only major change i would make for the second games is to bring back wild battles. i don't mind the new wild encounters and that being an option, but i also would still like to battle them if i choose. then we could make a hard capture easy by weakening it like in the main series if we choose.
