You're the perfect interviewer for this one. This is a "behind the curtain" style upload that I didn't know I absolutely needed.
NWA Powerr is a great retro program that's actually very cool and pretty hip...NWA Powerr is the Pro Wrestling Version of AMC's "Mad Men" and there is a very Decent Audience for this NWA is in the Conversation because it hits a need in the Marketplace:some people want "Last Man Standing" and some people want "Rick & Morty". Some people want "Law & Order:SUV" and somebody wants "Stranger Things" .. it depends on what you want out of your Wrestling Programming
@@Filmation77 I totally agree, until they replaced corny with Stu Benett. All the sudden everything on the show seemed like it mattered a whole lot less. There's a reason despite his ignorant rants political and otherwise the man's podcast is so popular.. I think Billy Corgan would do well to remember what a great man associated with NWA used to say; You gotta talk em into the buillding, kid.

Me too! Let's let them know!

I really enjoyed this interview. I have a new found respect for Billy Corgan. I feel inspired to work with him and see his vision succeed.
The fact that Billy Corgan was behind the scenes for FINAL DELETION is so COOL to hear!
Chris Van Vliet has the greatest wrestling interviews ever.
@@DJone-zz4uq Tell me you did not just say that...
@awake asleep lol I didn't expect those comments to stay up long honestly.. but if they delete ur comments and you're not breaking any rules or TOS - literally just post it again. Billy Corgan is too lazy to run a complete wrestling program for longer than a month. " Oh corny said a chicken joke? Just replace him with someone 1/10th as entertaining. I got a tour to plan, see ya!"
Respect to Billy who knows how to work a dynamic mic and keep it close while heâs talking! If you didnât know he played it a band, this would have given it away
Every time I hear the name Billy Corgan it reminds me of his appearance on the Simpsons.... "Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins" ..."Homer Simpson, smiling politely" Great interview, Chris. Keep knocking them out of the park.

Billy Corgan has always been cool asf
That's because he knows what he is doing. Being a name doesn't hurt either I should imagine.
He is a good guy. I hope Liver-lips Dave Lagana doesn't screw him over.
Billy is doing a great job leading NWA back from the dead. Power is a great show with a good mix of young and seasoned talent
I am sorry but I have been unable to watch the show after the horrifically racist things said by Jim Cornette. I know he was removed but every time I try to watch, I re-recall the sickening moment Cornette said those monstrous things about POC and I just start shaking uncontrollably. At this point, they need to rebrand entirely, drop NWA from the name, replace the talent with new beings (preferably more POC, brown, non cis-normative and gender-fluid individuals) and start from scratch. Even now I am shaking horribly, barely able to type, I really think that moment with Jim Cornette has inflicted me with PTSD.
@@patron7906 yeah, sure...sounds like a great idea over a 30 year old joke. This is ridiculous and I'm a 42 year old black man
@@stacks2437 although i dont agree with patrons logic and still follow nwa and cornette. i dont follow your 30 year old joke logic. the jokes probably over 100 years old, not 30 when it was the first time u heard cornette say it. the problem is he said it in 2019 when the world is softer than ever.
@@vipset87 Point being is that Cornette was removed or he resigned. Stu has stepped in and done a great job filling the spot. I don't see why there is any reason for continued complaints

This is now my favourite cvv interview, and could have been another hour long and I would be enthralled. He's always been a very creative and interesting individual and as such could lead to a difficult interview but Chris nailed it as always. Great job
I'm a bit disappointed you never asked him about the Jim cornette situation.
I fully agree
That would of just ended up with Cornette eventually getting another restraining order months down the line đđ love both Billy, Jim and Kenny Omega btw
GREAT INTERVIEW! Love how Billy Corgan is focusing on stories and promos with NWA because that's what draws in the general audience and also, makes the matches mean more with pay off
I can still remember the face my friend made when I told him Billy Corgan from the smashing pumpkins has bought & revitalized NWA wrestling. LoL. From punchline to headline.
Chris can literally handle any personality and greatly and calmly bring good info out of people, this example just proves it with Corgans personality. Best interviewer on youtube
I've said before that I think Chris is up there with Joe Rogan-in that he can talk to anyone(which is a legit skill,by the way).
straight up. I want the deep dive podcast into Billy/Impact. Aside from that, I REALLY enjoyed listening to business man Billy/Wrestling fan Billy because the duality of both was very present and previously unacclimated in my eyes/ears. Thank you again for another fun interview! Hope to run into you CVV during Mania weekend!
Check him out with Alex jones then
NWA Powerrr is a solid hour with all the fun aspects of wrestling. It's a welcome contrast to have on Tuesdays between two big shows that waste time with matches that take too long with hardly any storylines.
Damn that was a great watch. CVV coming in with another excellent interview, not just wrestling interview but interview that could appear anywhere.
Thanks CD!
1979 is still one of my favorite songs of all time.
Yes! This is the one I wanted to see. I've not seen Billy interviewed in depth about wrestling by anyone & he has so much to discuss, NWA, TNA & Resistance Pro.
I'd LOVE to see that interview will Billy breaking down what went wrong with TNA.
Stank Williams Jr. Thatâs so off and over simplification
@@elijahbryant3435 then why don't you go in to an in depth show telling ehat wrong?
...or what went wrong with powerr. Off to an amazing start getting raw and aew fans by the drove. Then suddenly kowtowing to massively unpopular sjw opinion and canning the best talent on their program. I like Stu, but he is miles and miles away from corny's commentary. Powerr really needed that - but Corgan is apparently a coward or more likely sjw himself so he couldn't care less. Just forget about it and plan another tour... People say Dixie Carter was bad, at least she got put thru a table by Bully ray. Billy is completely worthless in wrestling other than his money.
@@bradbrobst5118 you talk utter shite mate
@@bradbrobst5118 Dude Cornette is overrated trash. He's been begging for attention his entire life. And Dixie buried her own company. @@allthingsrandumb5743 from a long time former fan, to call any product from wwe great is absurd.
@@brianh4669 well from one long time fan to another, you're wrong :)
@@allthingsrandumb5743 I think is his point is even in NWA a five minute match still has more wrestling than a 20 minute match in WWE which is true. Especially matches with losers like Miz and Seth who stand around giving looks to each other and jittering half the match. WWE is boring and I ALWAYS know who's going to win the match before it even starts. NWA on the other hand is unpredictable and interesting.
Wish this interview was longer, was awesome. I predict that we will see the Hardys in NWA in the future
Yes! We could go for another one.
I remember as a teenager in the 90's, I grew up listening to Smashing Pumpkins. One of my favorite bands of all time. Never could imagine Corgan doing something even close to this years later and be good at it.
Billy corgan is doing a great job with nwa power. Great job on signing melina. I love that thunder rosa is women's champ. And shooter,Murdoch ,? Mark and ALL the rest are great to
Liver-lips Dave Lagana will find ways to ruin it.
Arenât they going under
I have tweeted this to Billy, but I love the old school vibe it gives off that also crosses with the new and up and coming talent. This allows their talent to grow as wrestlers, and it really teaches them to hone and sharpen their skills to help grow their business and bring eyes back to the product.
It is a fantastic show/concept. I can't wait to see what is to come.
@Greg Bailey I on the other hand am the opposite, I began watching mid to late 90s and continued onward.
I do however love the old school stuff you mentioned, as it was far less non sense and far more logic if that makes sense?
I have a hard time watching AEW these days, as I agree with a lot of what Cornette says about it, as there is no logic, or psychology to it, and WWE can be just as bad as well. But AEW is the worst in that regard.
NWA however does not have this problem, I am not fond of some of their talent, who despite their abilities in the ring are out of shape and likely have no interest in being in shape. Not only is that unsafe, but it is detrimental to both themselves and those in the ring with them. Not that, that is a knock against any of those individuals, I just feel they should take better care of themselves.
I think I was a fan roughly inbetween the times you both mention, (1990-98). I was mainly WWF, probably because i was a kid, and Vince pushed towards the younger audience. But i would still watch WCW, just not as much, especially when they started acquiring WWF talent. When I saw the Scott Hall+ Kevin Nash switch, it spoilt the myth for me, or maybe it was the fake Razor and Diesel haha. I was a true mark thoughđ.
By age 14/15, in 97/98 my interest in wrestling began to fade. Bret Hart got screwed, the Attitude era was in full swing and I just stopped paying attention. I caught parts of the Monday Night Wars and the rises of Stone Cold, Rock, Man Kind, Kane, Angle, Jericho etc but the WWF product changed so much from what I was use to, I wasn't interested anymore. So I left but didn't give it much notice really. I stopped tuning in regularly.
Its taken 20 years for me to start taking notice again. AEW, NWA, MLW particularly have grabbed my attention and i think they all offer something which went missing from the WWF/E, back when I stopped watching in the late 90s. I guess I was about the action in ring, realistic or not. But the wrestlers have to be impressive, larger than life in their personas and entertaining. Crazy, quirky characters and gimmicks, with family friendly storylines I don't mind. There had to be some believability about it. And I think the rules and standards that veterans like Jim Cornette preach so insistently, are very important and should apply most of the time today. I want it to be fun and make sense.
However the world has opened up and changed alot since I was a youngster, with the internet+ social media. I don't know if a booming wrestling industry, exactly as it was in the 80s or 90s can exist, without adapting to suit a new, young audience who are just finding wrestling for the first time now!! The popularity of it must have decreased in the last decade or the people working behind the scenes ran out of material/talent or just good, original ideas. I will say that somewhere while I was away, women's wrestling developed at a quicker rate than maybe the guys. The amount of good women's matches I see now compared to back in the day is high! Making use of free media, and growing the online presence on different platforms, for promotional use will be important. Whoever can capitalise on that the most, could get a head start.
With so many companies and brands now fighting for each slice of the pie, it should make for a golden age of wrestling in the coming years or decades. They each need to find where they fit in the competitive marketplace. With the talent and finance each company has they have to choose their demographics, and slowly build theirs rosters to sustain a prosperous, energetic, fresh product for a few years to come. Build their loyal followings from this and become long time established or established again in the case of NWA. But also be aware that following some of the old rules pre internet might be detrimental. The emphasis on Kayfabe and everything looking real might not have the same importance, with kids/youth who grow up in a world where MMA is as readily available as wrestling is.
I read a headline today about Vince putting more time into ventures other than wrestling, like the XFL recently. Id be interested to see what he makes of this explosion of competition and what he thinks the future holds for the industry. What will be really interesting is what happens when he eventually retires.
@Greg Bailey i call this the Jack Tunney era. I dont know if that is accurate, but I watched between 1987 and 1995 and dam I miss the improv promos and Wrestlers creating their own characters.
yes I absolutely LOVE when Eli Drake shows up just out of nowhere because it legit looks real. It feels like he wasnt scheduled to be there at that moment he just showed up. You almost never see that in WWE
I'm down for them to get a tv deal with tvland. Seems fitting
Or maybe go real old school and get onto TBS.
Let Eli Drake cut a Flair style promo to really kick things off. And then Aldis with the belt cutting a quite yet commanding promo similar to Jake the Snake.
StaticPec,
That sounds good and all, but I donât think it would happen because AEW is already on the Ted Turner-owned Network TNT, so I donât think theyâre gonna have 2 competing Wrestling companies on 2 Turner-owned Channels.
Oh I didnt realise they were related. Well wgn america if that's still a thing too

@namikejohnson I think it's just because they had the Into The Fire PPV, maybe they're just gonna change the theme with every PPV. If it was a copyright issue they'd have to remove it from the first 13 or however many episodes of the show on youtube

Chris Van Vliet,i have been a fan of wrestling for 40 years and you nail the questions and make it enjoyable for us to watch.Keep it up ,I enjoy your product!!!
Very cool that you interviewed Billy.
Billy is one of my favorite artists in everything he does. Wish I could have saw more of him in impact wrestling, but the man has gone on and made a forgotten organization relevant again. I love his way of making wrestling an art form again and not just a big roster of talent that gets buried.
I have watched wrestling since the early 80âs as a kid and some throwback is just what the wrestling world needs. Mat wresters who cut awesome promos and angles where the story is the focus and the heat is on high. Personally I never really enjoyed 3F wrestling and itâs gotten worse for me as I have gotten older because I donât enjoy wondering if people are going to end up being crippled by the time they are 30. Iâd much rather have great characters, good angles, and the smaller, easier to follow feel that comes with NWA Powerrr and I hope they never give up on it.

I said it on one of the Powerr episodes but what i like about NWA is that the wrestlers can be cutting a promo or jawing at each other then immediately step into the ring in real time for a match. Also a minor thing but for some reason i ADORE that the belt is called the WORLDS heavyweight champion, makes it sound more prestigious somehow.
