As a teenager living over boarder in Zambia, the Rhodesian Bush war was something very close to me. My brother and I were desperate to "go south" and join the fight - and ended we up in boarding school in the UK to keep us away from it all. Travelled through Rhodesia in 72 during a "peaceful time" and loved everything about the country. Tragic how it all ended up. The Rhodesian Light Infantry, C Squadron (Rhodesian) SAS, Selous Scouts, Rhodesian African Rifles, The Rhodesian Regiment, Rhodesian Armoured Car Regt (The Black Devils), Greys Scouts of the Rhodesian Armoured Regiment. "Green Leader" and the attempt to attack Nkomo in Lusaka. The music, songs of time, (thanks CZcams) the "Troopie" (and who's statue was smuggled out and is now located at Hatfield House, home of the Marquess of Salisbury). I joined the British Army in 77, partly in frustration for missing out. "Rhodesians Never Die!"

The vido you used didn't tell the whole story, and had some facts wrong, We had a fully operational unit with all african solders, originally known, as the Kings African Rifles, then renamed the Rhodesian African Rifles. Who saw action in the second World war, and the Malayan emergency. And you are right we had Auzies and Kiws giving us a hand.

This was an interesting video! I don't know much about the Rhodesian Bush War but it's an interesting conflict! The Front is a great channel regarding military history! They have another awesome channel called The Braved!

Won't have a chance to watch it for a while. But interested to see if it says much about the pseudos and assassinations and other counter insurgency tactics that possibly did destabilise all the tribal elders and turn villages against the government. Not an expert in any way but how the government could not just pick one tribe and back it against all others in a tribal war in a cynical way would have been reasonable. Ultimately the fact that so many in the government were agents for foreign governments and the inevitability of the defeat and the mindset that the limpopo was ever a barrier for a border and the loss of life of the most patriotic and bravest who could have had happy lives elsewhere. Part of the tragedy of all wars. From a terrorist perspective possibly the farm raids and killing civilians and par-for-the-course rapes and child atrocities instead of just destroying the infrastructure obviously increased the revenge and emotions of whites and their desire to stay and fight instead of leaving. Trying to add glory to any war or anyone in it is a bit problematic and of course Selous Scouts RLI and SAS and many almost miraculous operations the emotions are very high. All the Rhodesian veterans I have ever encountered really were such intelligent beautiful people and starting again in Australia they have shown admirable inner strength. The only surviving Rhodesian Special Branch I have heard of are basically turds as humans so how some otherwise insignificant useless colonial police rejects from the UK got to run a significant part of the war when they were always filth is a personal query. The whole white population was the size of Newcastle NSW at the time and the fact that Newcastle NSW is never going to become a centre of world attention in a drawn out war is one of those reasons everyone in Australia should count themselves as the genuine Lucky Country.
