Im still in the research stages on the Society, but will say that having been a teenager when the changes occurred, I knew that even I then thought that Mass in the vernacular ‘made sense’ but what I’ve found is only confusion for marginal Catholics and excuses to walk away from Catholicism altogether. Luckily I did not, but it was a long road back for me to having any respect for what was called the Mass or the fact that devotions were just ignored, even The Rosary. The more I research, the more things make sense to me that the most celebrations of the NO lack the reverence, and continuity from parish to parish, and that ecumenism is the ultimate goal. I know this does not come from Our Lord, and the TLMass is the only way.

I attend a society chapel as an unchurched convert waiting to be received. I prayed the Rosary for a couple of years and was confused about whether to attend the Novus Ordo or some traditional variant. I believe I received direction from the Fatima Center giving confirmation that I should attend at the SSPX. I also think one day Lefebvre will be a saint. I don't look back.

As I learn more about the traditional aspects of our faith I'm constantly blown away at how much we lost and how quickly (one generation) we lost it.
To that end I think we owe a huge debt to the SSPX and the good Archbishop because it's entirely possible we'd have lost the TLM and old sacraments. Sure we probably had books describing how to perform them but nothing beats a live teacher.

Deena, this a such a great topic. I will be watching as you explore the SSPX as I’m sure there is so much to learn. I am currently attending a NO Catholic Church (not by choice, but by circumstance). I am blessed to have a very courageous priest who preaches truth in a way and with such passion that I’ve never heard from a priest before. We have incense at every mass and the responses are sung in Latin. He brings in tradition as much as he’s allowed by our Bishop. The fruits of that small nod to tradition and such great pastoral leadership has created a very vibrant church. It’s breathtaking and inspiring. I’ve never seen so many veiled heads (especially from young women and girls), or people dropping to their knees to receive the Eucharist. Remember, this is a NO church. There is such a hunger here to be part of something deeper and more meaningful. Many Blessings to you Deena and your family.

I knew Archbishop Lefebvre personally (my own involvement with the SSPX goes back to 1981) and I always considered him saintly. You can spot genuine sanctity in someone after a while (or perhaps even right away) and he was the real deal. If I had to fault him for anything it would be that he was not the best judge of character, in that his charity would lead him excuse others to a greater extent than a more hardheaded individual might.
SSPX priests on the other hand are a mixed bag There are saintly ones, pretty good ones and a few who have caused real scandal. Doctrinally the Society is solid and it has successfully navigated that narrow no-man's-land between being part of the ecclesiastical structures of the Church (and compromising with the undermining of Catholicism), and genuine schism. Every Catholic who still believes in Catholicism and takes his Faith seriously is now in the same boat as the Society, or soon will be once the Vatican starts cracking down on bishops who won't sideline the Tridentine Mass as per the Pope's wishes, so every genuine Catholic is now a traditional Catholic by default.
The Society however has been in no-man's-land for decades and that hasn't had a good effect on their Catholic outlook. There is IMHO too much emphasis among SSPX Catholics on what they are against rather than what they are for, i.e. there is an ingrained tendency to define one's Faith in largely negative terms: trad Catholics are anti-modernist, anti-NOM, anti-liberalism, anti-modern society in general. Nothing wrong with being anti everything wrong in the Church and world today, but that should be a corollary to what we cherish. A negative mentality obscures what we Catholics are meant to be *_for._* Too much of it and genuine charity, enthusiasm for the Faith and fervour can dry up. I don't apply this universally to SSPX priests and faithful, but it is something that is pretty widespread, at least in my experience.
My own take is that many SSPXers can learn from traditional Catholics like you, especially your appreciation for the Tridentine Mass. Don't change!

I am a cradle SSPX Catholic!! I grew up going to peoples houses and renting trailers and going to school gymnasiums, to have the TLM!! I always wondered as a kid and teenager and young adult why we would go to all these different places to go to mass when there was a Catholic Church 10 minutes from my house! All my Catholic friends would go to this church but I was driving 45 min to an hour to a house, trailer, and school gymnasium to hear mass!! It was crazy to me as a child but I thank My parents today for giving me True Catholic understanding!! I took it for granted not really learning about my faith, and now that I have a family of my own and having to teach them about the crisis in the church I wish I would have learned a lot more as a young adult, to pass it on to my children, but it is awesome to learn it with them and teach them the faith of the saints!! God Bless Marcel Lefebrve. I am 46 years old now and remembering all the things my parents would tell me about the Catholic Church and what it was going to go through and now see it coming true is mind blowing how they had the grace to see the fruits through the wolves!! I will go to the underground and to the forest and to the catecombs to defend the TLM and the SSPX!! Thank you to all those who fight to keep the TLM going!!

I realized I knew very little about the SSPX and absolutely nothing about Abp Lefebvre. I remember hearing that the SSPX was simply off limits and one couldn’t attend their services because they had broken away from the Church.
When I first started going to an SSPX chapel, I actually prayed for God not to be angry with me if in fact I was doing something wrong. Instead, what I found at that chapel has strengthened my faith and has been our port in the storm.

I will second a poster on here. Sspx priests are very solicitous for souls. They will drive hours to give somebody the sacraments, even if they are not an sspx parishioner. It's incredible! And they live a common life together with other priests. They are a model for what a diocesan priestly life should be.

I pray I can pass this test so I can drive myself and gain a better understanding of the faith to help her as well as myself

@@ACatholicWife Hi Deena, thank you for responding.🙂 The TLM I attend is technically under my local diocese but is actually an oratory run by the Institute of Christ the King. Before the pandemic, we would celebrate Mass at a local historic diocesan church, but with the new moto proprio we now have no parish home and have to attend Mass in a rented space inside a strip mall of all places. I guess I feel out of place there not only because I like to attend Mass in an actual church building, but I feel kind of like a square peg being a middle-aged single woman in the midst of mostly large families. Thankfully the NO parish I also attend is a local Marian Shrine where the Mass is celebrated very reverently and is more traditionally-minded than your typical parish church. I feel more welcome there by the other parishioners which had been invaluable to me as well. Thank you for the info. on the Mary statue; I look forward to checking out the video you referenced! Hi Deena, Thank you so much for this video with so much useful information. I have ordered the Angelus Press Missal and I am waiting patiently for it to arrive. My situation is that I am old enough (74) to have grown up with the Latin Mass and although I attend the NO Mass regularly, I miss the TLM so much as it is the Mass of my heart. The nearest TLM is 100 miles away in the city where my son lives. He is always inviting me to come and join him attending the TLM there; please God one day. I do, however, have a big dilemma about Pope Francis. Going back to my Irish Catholic youth, my understanding then was that the Pope was never to be questioned. For me today, my Pope is still Benedict; I respect him very much. I can only pray that Francis will relent about the TLM.

For the first 10 years of my life, all I knew was the Latin Mass. My mom insisted on the Douay-Rheims version. As a child, I was very confused as we morphed into the NO Mass. I did my best to accept these changes but I never liked them. Communion in the hand and the sign of peace were particularly annoying. For me, returning to "traditional" would be like coming home, but it has been so long and my parish is very NO. Not sure how to move forward, but this video is helpful.

SSPX is unapologetically Catholic. We have large families, the women are modest, and the men take the head of their family seriously like a badge of honor. We're not just Catholics on Sunday, we live and breathe it everyday. This can make new comers a bit uncomfortable at first bc we seem old fashioned but after awhile what the SSPX does is uncompromized faith. Yes we're not a fan of Vat2 and if tomorrow the Pope called us schismatic we would still continue doing what we're doing bc the Latin mass is worth fighting for.

I attend a NO mass but feel this tug in my heart to go to a TLM. Options are very few for me, only 1 diocese church who offers 1 mass on Sundays at 2pm. What I wanted to ask is: have you heard that the prayers of NO are even older than the TLM prayers? I heard a priest say that and I don’t know if it’s true. Thank you

    • @ACatholicWife
      @ACatholicWife  Před 2 lety +3

@Rita Araújo thank you for watching my video and sharing with me.
Have you attended the Latin Mass yet?
The True Mass goes back to *Apostolic* times; and it was “codified”, solidified, or set in stone by St. Pope Pius V in his Papal Bull Quo Primum Tempore on July 14, 1570.
Pope St. Pius V specified the exact Mass ritual “of and for” the Roman Rite.
Only this Liturgy or Ritual was to be used from that time until the end of time (for the Roman Rite).
It’s utterly 😳 ridiculous that anyone much less a priest would claim that the Novus Ordo Missae (which was *created* in the 1960’s with input from PROTESTANTS) is older than the Tridentine Mass. Hokum.
I would highly encourage you to seek out the Tridentine Mass.

I use the Angelus Press missal. I also receive Tradivox, a collection of catechisms that have been published for the laity throughout many centuries. It is put together and published by Sophia Institute. They also publish Benedictus, which is similar to Magnificat, but specifically for the Mass of the Ages. I do generally go to Angelus Press for meditation and prayer resources.
