    Hey Gilbert! Thank you so much for this wonderfully unique video and the kind, insightful words. I am sorry that you went through so much trouble to get the game - but honored that you did so. I appreciate your honest and thoughtful comments about this design and all the Gettysburg games - and weirdly enough, Lee's Greatest Gamble is also my favorite Gettysburg game (and its sister game, Burnished Rows of Steel, is my favorite Antietam game). Thanks to all the kind comments from all the wonderful people here as well! Good gaming!

      You are quite welcome Hermann. I hope I get to meet you someday, perhaps at one of the conventions. I have not tried 'Burnished Rows of Steel' which is one I should consider since "Antietam" is another battle that like to study.

      Looking forward to Rock of Chickamauga in the future but please take your time (as much that is needed) to make this one as special too. You’re really doing some fantastic work and we thank you ! Warm regards.

    Thanks for the video, as always really comprehensive analysis😁 Plus quite a collection of Gettysburg games. I came to the game from a completely different angle - it's my first ACW game (ignoring Rebel Raiders).
    On the organisation side, I've fit Confederates in the GMT tray and Union in the baggies - all fit in the box perfectly😁

  • @williamclarkdelashmutt5179

    YES another fine review. You're right about just getting a pair of glasses to read the small font. I needed a new pair of reading glasses and I can now read it just fine.

    Thank you for your great review. It has been greatly appreciate by everyone involved. For your information the strength of the counters was set so players could follow the historical situation more closely, if they wished. For example, say a 9 strength point brigade broke off a third of its force during the actual battle to guard its right flank, well in the game that brigade is represented by a 6 SP counter and a 3 SP counter. So players have the option of following along with the historically actuate actions or go their own way and keep the brigade together.

    The 1964 AH Gettysburg was my first wargame ever. I bought it at a toy store in the mid-1970’s. I later owned the 1977 AH Gettysburg which I greatly enjoyed. I now have AMFS and am looking forward to playing it.

    Agreed on the player aids, the font is small, but readable. I'm patiently working my way through the rules myself, and as far as I'm concerned, the rules are laid out beautifully. I visited the battlefield last year, and Rick's map is a work of art, again, as far as I'm concerned anyway.

    Thanks Gilbert. I finally received this game last week, after Flying Pig Games gave the Australian distributors a kick up the bum (classic "she'll be right, mate" attitude). The map is stunning, Mr Barber's magnum opus, second to none (except Nature, see yesterday's Webb images). I enjoyed The Devil's to Pay, so I'll probably be a fan of this one, too. The player-aid fonts are not a huge problem, but they are kind of inconsistent with the "upsized" nature of this game. I'll be printing the larger ones.

    Anxiously awaiting my copy which should ship anytime now! Love the activation and how it can snag and slow down the best laid plans. Im not sure people appreciate how long and the issues involved in putting an ACW Corps into action. Had to be maddening at times! Thanks! Enjoyed the comparisons!

    I had been on the fence about this one, too. Finally made up my mind to buy it and the game had just gone out of stock at Noble Knight Games. Adding to the frustration is that I had just done a swap for store credit and I had more than enough to buy the game. I guess I just have to hope that the game shop restocks before the game goes out of print! (fingers crossed.) I really like how certain things are baked into the system like Leader effects, morale results, etc. Also, the effect of units being Supported or Unsupported does a fine job of rewarding keeping brigades together as opposed to sending parts of a brigade hither and yon. You can still send them if you want to or need to (like plugging a hole in a line), but it comes with a price. I think the lack of zones-of-control might bother some players, but I have absolutely no problem with the concept.
    Another great video, Gilbert. Thanks for your effort!

      The last I heard the publisher is out of copies. There may still be a few floating around the supply chain, however. Fortunately, there is already talk of a second printing. So the cavalry is on the way!

    Welcome to the clan Gilbert....Have purchased a copy as well and I have fallen in love with it....Might just turn into my favorite game of all time. Still playing the "Devils to pay" scenario. Don't have the space to play the grand campaign and that's honestly my only gripe about the game, its fricken huge and I can only set up 1 map at a time.

    Great review Gilbert. I got in on the kick start. I was just so impressed by the boards art work I knew I had to have it. I’m so glad I did. I sure hope you will do some demo’s on the play of the game. I’m terrible at reading and understanding rules. Anyway thank you for your review.

    Great overview. Your videos are consistently informative and clearly presented. I have a request: would it be possible to do a video on your favorite small footprint games? I ask, because I don't have a game room and table space is severely limited. If you have any to recommend, I would be greatly interested. Thanks.

      @XLEGION1  Před 2 lety +5

      I was pretty sure I mentioned Herman Luttman's name near the beginning of the video, if I did not it was a gross oversight. I will have to look at it again. I know I mentioned the publisher "Flying Pig" games, I believe it is right at the beginning.

    Really interesting review/unboxing video, but I disagree on the fonts. OK you don't have a problem but they are simply too small for many, the complaints are valid. I like your view on rules questions, far too many seem to be based on people trying to bend rules or 'over thinking' them. However there are some from gamers who have English as a second language. Literal translations can sometimes confuse things. The game has joined my list of favourites, Enemy Action games, Raid on St Nazaire...yeah I'm a solo player, I wish Guns of Gettysburg could have been played solo, that is as good looking as this game but in a completely different style!

  • @normstewart546

    I appreciated the Blind Swords combat resolution system, but a little streamlining is welcome.
    I was fine with the earlier chit-pull command system (a Corps or Div chit gave you the choice of available sub-units), but this may be better.

    • @XLEGION1
      @XLEGION1  Před 2 lety

      Hey Norm: My gut feeling is that it is better. The only title I had in the Blind Swords system was "Devils' to Pay" and I thought it could have been streamlined a tad. I think this is the logical step in the development of the system. I hope they will let it alone now.

    **GASP** NO LEADER COUNTERS??? How, then, can Reynolds be killed? Or Strong Vincent? Or Barksdale? How can Sickles lose a leg??? Or Hood an arm??? Or the entire brigadier rank of Pickett's Division?? ("General Lee: I *have* no brigade commander counters!")

    • @XLEGION1
      @XLEGION1  Před 2 lety +3

      Actually Reynolds can be killed and there are 'replacement general' cards for that. It's impossible to describe everything in a short video.

    • @hermannluttmann1637
      @hermannluttmann1637 Před 2 lety +4

      Hey Stiglr! Actually, each scenario has a dedicated leader casualty list, so they are tailor-made for each situation. Leader cards become casualties and are either replaced by weaker cards or get a marker to modify their die rolls. A leader can actually come back into play as well, recovering from his momentary discomfort.
