  • Guys, this is a marathon video of puukko making. I could have cut more but probaply you skip the parts you are not interested. In the end of this vid Puukko introduction and details. Any question, please do.
    Knife was treated with Tru Oil and good polish of hard carnauba wax.
    Carbon steel blade comes from Roselli factory.

    olipa mukavaa katseltavaa. Hyvin sopi pronssi tuohon kahvaan. Itselläni on tekeillä puukko johon aloin tekemään kahvaa koivun pahkasta. Melko kovaa tavaraa on sekin.

    • @thetopicala
      @thetopicala  Před 8 lety

      Kiitti. Kotimaisista puulajeista ja koivu visana mun suosikkeja. Koivunpahka hyvinkin softia verrattuna tuohon videolla olevaan ovangoliin. Kaikkea pitää kokeilla😀

    That later alteration you did with the hand file really made the difference, Much better design. As always, beautiful workmanship, Omo. I plan to include using bronze. How does copper hold up in the designs? Copper and some woods would be so beautiful together!

    Nice video! I learned some new tricks! How do you prevent the wood from burning on the belt sander, especially end grain?
    I started making this beautiful, elegant puukko knife today but when I hardened it, i accidently burnt off the tip. :( Hope I can still fix the knife because it had a lot of work in it.

    • @thetopicala
      @thetopicala  Před 8 lety

      +knives&stuff Thanks! Good question. Take care that your sanding belt is in good order, rough enough and as you can see I try to keep that wood on move all the time. If the sander doesn't bite to the wood think something else to turn the wood. Rough file is great help sometimes. Osmo

    Merry Christmas Osomo , beautiful work as always . Do use nothing but stabilized wood on your handles or are there certain species you don't feel you need to have stabilized? What is your favorite wood to use as far as aesthetics and workability ? 🎅🏻🇺🇸

    • @thetopicala
      @thetopicala  Před 5 lety

      Chuck Hiccox I‘d say the stabilized wood is really good invention! However harder the natural wood is less stabilization is needed. Really hard and heavy wood species even refuce to get stabilized due to density or greasiness of the wood. I cannot so my favorite wood species anymore. Every wood block is a mystery before the turning of it! Thanks and Merry C! Osmo
