Hell has frozen over. Rick Pitino is an ally of KSR and UK Athletics, specifically the Kentucky men’s basketball program. All we needed was Pardon My Take and Mark Pope to make it happen.
It’s been a wild day here at Kentucky Sports Radio HQ, to say the least. The bridges previously burnt beyond repair during Pitino’s days at Louisville have somehow been built anew, all forgiven with the St. John’s head coach ready to support the place he calls Camelot in this new era for the Wildcats.
    Pitino understands vitriol at Louisville
For starters, he understands why fans were so upset with him taking the Louisville job and the events that followed with the Cardinals. The vitriol was fair and he’s put it behind him, only focusing on the good during his time in Lexington and the endless support he received from Big Blue Nation.

It’s hard for me to even listen to Cal talk bc it all sounds like BS now…..I guess it always was, we just overlooked it for years bc we actually had results. When the results disappeared, he deserved all of the criticism he received. You know, being paid nearly 10 mill a year….

  • @lovingnativeenglishclintvi3626

I love you Rick. I went to see you with my mother when you were at UL and she had cancer. We took a picture together. You changed my DNA and I cried while keeping stats by hand during Cawood Ledfords´last game. You were/are/ will always be my HERO. These UK fans that dislike you for making a business decision just shows ignorance. It is like saying Al Pacino was in Scareface and consequently; he should never have made that movie with Marlen Brando. I love you with all my heart and soul just as I do Pope. I met one of the men that made me cry during Cawoods´last game= Grant Hill, in Dallas in 2012. I said you made me cry my eyes out as I shook his hand, he said okay you are a UK fan. We talked for 15 minutes. He told me he had grown up in Dallas ( i used to live in East Dallas =The Best part) and his dad was a Quarterback. He said great words about you. ATTN to the people who don´t forgive Rick= UK was Ricks' wife his second wife was Boston and his third wife just happened to be Louisville a city I grew up in worked at UAW862 @ LAP Ford Motor and lived in The Highlands. I now live in Perú, don´t you think that I would n´t want to work at Ford Motor and live alone in The Highlands again? Of course I would. I have lived in 8 states 3 countries and their is no place like East Dallas nor Louisville The Highlands. Respect Rick. Or be ignorant as we all have ex girlfriends we should have married etc. Don´t judge by someone´s past. It broke his heart but he loved Kentucky and the city of Louisville. So support Pope and Rick. Pope I have pearls with blue lapilasso pierdras for Lee Ann, and I have things to send to your 4 daughters and to you. When Billy Clyde beat Rick in The NCAA tourney in Rupp ( Acey Law) by 2 points UK hired him. Well life is learning so get over your hate and support OUR TEAM and the good with the bad. Love from Barranco, Lima, Go Coach P and P. 34-4 Natty 9.

Although cals first 6 years were phenomenal, Rick Pitinos stretch at UK was even more impressive, he built what is IMO the best college basketball team of all time in 1996, and what people, especially younger kids don't realize is the 90s were stacked with competition in college basketball, players like Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury, Tim Duncan, Ray Allen, Grant Hill, I could go on and on. UK won two national championships in a 3 year span and came an overtime period from winning 3 in a row, had Derrick Anderson been available to play in the championship loss to Arizona in 97 they probably win 3 championships in a row. Cal for example although he won at a high level, he had more talent and only won one, and although he has had some trem teams, That era in the 90s was what set the standard for UK basketball IMO.

Imagine what Pitino could have done during the same span as Calipari if he had all of that same talent? I don't think he would have gone a season without an Elite 8, but most likely would have favorably compared to the period owned by the dominance of Wooden.

Let me say a truth that might be all my own, and not shared with another person... but I have despised Pitino for his Louisville jaunt, as well as his prostitute and player issues. I just thought his moral compass and his lack of loyalty was junk, and unworthy of building bridges with. But, seriously... his kindness to Mark Pope is the best. And so I say, he has won my heart and I am sorry I was so hard on Coach Pitino. Maybe all the things I read were not as true as I thought they were. Anyhow, to Coach Pitino, I am sorry for not giving you a chance to make up to UK.... and especially I thank you for supporting Mark Pope. Seriously, You didn't need to speak nicely of him or UK, especially since UK has treated you roughly. But thank you for being a bigger and better person than I was.

The power of the Almighty dollar caused Him to leave and I believe Coach Pitino would have passed John Wooden in National Championships and Coach Pitino loves Horses and Churchill Downs. I pray for Him to come back after Cal left. He was done wrong @ Louisville. He who is with out sin cast the 1st stone. Do not judge and do not condemn or You will be judged and condemnd by the same measures that You use. I Love Ya , Boss!

I truly believe that Pitino was as good of a coach as there ever has been in college basketball. He made some very poor personal and professional decisions along the way that really limited his ceiling. The fact that he left Ky for an NBA job is totally understandable, but, to return back to college coaching and take the UL job was mind bending and absolutely unforgivable. It would be like Coach K leaving college , then coming back to coach UNC. It’s the one thing he did that permanently ruined his relationship with 90% +of KY fans, myself included. You just can’t do that and expect anything except contempt. He could have taken any other open coaching job in the country with no hard feelings. But, he will never get any forgiveness ,, sorry, it’s just the consequences of a profoundly poor decision.
